It looks like we're flipping young players rather than developing them. That may or may not look good in the accounts now but it's not going to encourage other bright young prospects to sign for us in future. |  | | |

Yeah, me too. Thought he had more about him than Morrison. But we do seem to be moving players out faster now, which is good obviously from a financial point of view and gives the player an opportunity to get fixed up elsewhere, earlier in their career. Might not send a great signal regarding our ‘pathway’ to the first team though | | | |

If you can go to QPR as an U18 or U23 without professional minutes and leave a year or two later to be signed by a pro club then that is also successful development that the club can sell to parents and kids. Rohan Vaughan is another who signed for a couple of years with Dev squad, developed with U23s and loans, now signed for Harrogate as a pro, pushing for promotion back to Div 3.
Any professional footballers that the club produces is a success and lure for more players. | | | |

The proportion of players in any youth team who "make it" is tiny at any club.
If a player doesn't develop sufficiently much better to move them on quickly than keep players till 22/23 as we were doing in the unrealistic hope they make it. Even if we are down on the deal, better to cut losses. Nourry did say if a youth player wasn't knocking on the first team door at (from memory) 21, we would off-load them. Seems that's what we are doing. | | | |

He was part of Stellenbosch's reserve team, no pro appearances. Yes, member of SA's U20s.
We've clearly invested hugely into the youth setup so it's not worth hanging out the bunting, but players signed as dev players leaving to sign as pros elsewhere is an improvement and can be sold as such to other youth. | | | |

Just spoke with my boss who is a huge Wimbledon fan and has friends on the board. Confirmed it is Forest and us who have bid and he believes he'll come to us due to opportunity to play. So if he signed could be for the 1st team squad.
Described him as a player who gets u off your feet, ball just sticks to him. Needs to work on end product but due to being so young.
Gutted they're potentially losing him.

The blurb on the website also talks up his achievements in the U-20 Afcon and makes him sound like a potential superstar in the making.

So it looks like he is going from being a pro in South Africa to possibly being a pro in the MLS via 12 months knocking around in the QPR DS.

I'm not saying that. I'm saying it's not a failure, which compared to many DS signings is a hit.
If you asked any player, they'd choose going to a good MLS team over the PSL reserve league, with due respect to the PSL. (Let's not rely too heavily on the QPR official site!).
Jack Harrison's just joined New England Revolution, for example. Doubt he'd go to Stellenbosch.
I don't have a dog in this fight. And I think the LF, Ramsey setup had a much higher hit rate of identifying outside talent in the age group, but Dev players leaving and getting pro deals elsewhere will not harm the chances of signing more. | | | |

Despite giving away a Pen and another which never was, I thought Smith looked a promising CB, but in the Edwards, JCS mould not the huge CB type we need, with only Dunne fitting that requirement now. Akindileni may fill that requirement one day but doesn't seem to be ready yet. I hope we are going to bring in a back-up for Dunne this window and move Morisson on again. | | | |

I suspect this means Saito will be transferred, as we don't pay £850k for them to only play in the DS.

He was playing right back for ten minutes when giving away a penalty. So, out of position and one of only three brief came so he has had in the first team.
He has not been given a chance to shine in the first team as yet.
The loan to purchase price could potentially be a decent fee, but if he comes back, a guy with world football experience and with his early successes in international football, could be more of an asset for us to keep and play more or sell on for an even higher purchase price.

Or, if Chair and Vale are now considered midfielders we have fewer wingers available...but I agree it's not a position calling out for recruitment, especially as someone new will block opportunities for Sutton, Scarlett, Sanyaolo etc. who should be completing for 5th spot after Saito/Smyth/Dembele/Poku |  | | |
