| Derby Reflection 17:20 - Apr 25 with 26271 views | bluenwhite10 | Wrexham at home all over again. Today summed up the lack of respect we are showing to end of the season with changes for changes sake, which ultimately ended up with us finishing the game with 10 men. Yes I do get it is giving the manager the opportunity to blood youngsters to see how they cut it but pre season friendly is the place for that. The 1st half performance was good with some good performances from players I have been critical of in the past Bennie and Morgan. It is was it is. I would say the season has been typical of a middle of the table team with the good being very good and the bad being very bad. The Madsen injury affected us badly and we naturally dipped a bit then and struggled. Next week I would imagine will be more of the same and £43 a ticket is a joke. Has it improved from last season….i think so! Come on you R’s | | | | |

| Derby Reflection on 11:15 - Apr 26 by baz_qpr | Having slept on its and having had further time to reflect, that games yesterday is a total microcosm of our season in many ways. Fast exciting football, that petered away in the final 3rd of the match/season due to injuries and losing key players at vital times Some young players really establishing themselves Some young players being so far off the standard its like playing with 10 men Total reliance on Kone to get ourselves up the pitch / out ball Poor and shaky goalkeeping costing us games and points Playing ourselves into trouble from goal kicks Backup full backs not being at this standard or even the ones below and costing us games Inconsistency in the central of midfield, when we win the midfield we win when we lose the midfield we lose. Consistently making the wrong decision in the final 3rd (If ever there was a perfect example of Paul Smyth as a player it was yesterday, shot when he should have passed, poor crossing yet tore them apart in the middle 3rd) Bennie passed twice when he should have shot and scored Conceding far too many goals and rarely being able to point the finger at the centre backs who both yesterday and throughout the season have been pretty decent yet we have conceded more goals than most Tactical ridgity especially in game, yesterday we switched formation to 4-1-4-1 which worked a treat with the players on the pitch, but then when the subs were made we stuck with it no matter what ending up with the wrong players in the wrong place (Burrell cannot play on his own upfront / Kolli for Kone had to be the sub) Chair at 10 rather than on the left. Subs unable to maintain consistency of performance (we always seem to get either drastically better or drastically worse) Let's hope the club and the management can see what is wrong and understand why we are probably 10pts off where we should be. |
Totally agree with almost of all that: it was a total microcosm of the season. However, as I said above, we don't have two of the PL's better young players on loan. We're not paying those loan fees and wages. Derby are, though, despite Eustace's bitching about our expensive squad. Ozoh is 20 and if it wasn't for his injuries on loan at Derby, he'd be in Palace's 1st team. Maybe next season. Banel is 21 and will be terrorising whoever plays RB for QPR next season when he's starting for Burnley. These two being introduced palpably changed the game. We do not have 20 and 21-year-olds anywhere near as good. We have to accept that, and Derby will have to if they don't go up. We do have some decent young players with a chance of a career at this level. They will not magically wish that into being by playing players not of the level, ie Adamson. The real test for Nourry, other than selling someone he's signed for big wedge, is being able to cut loose young players he likes but aren't up to it - something Les and co also found difficult. Big summer. (Also: I hate the "who?" chant when opposition subs are made anyway - it's very Brummie - but especially when those subs then win the game for them)

I find it mad that we can't recognise here that it wasn't our substitutions that lost the game, but Derby's that won it. That and being down to ten in the final ten, with nobody to hit and hold up top.

To be fair to Eustace, they go into the final game with a shout at the play-offs. We go in on a losing streak, with nothing to play for, trying to keep the score down against Ipswich.

I agree. Derby were incredibly slow and sluggish at centre back, centre midfield and up front for the first 70 minutes. Morgan will never have an easier game, he was as unhurried as Boro, Bristol City and Swansea’s midfield were against us.

Absolutely! I like having a cheat mode loan or two. We've always done really well with those - Walker, Routledge, Jerome Thomas and more. I'd rather have a cheat mode loan or two than 15 "promising" youngsters we own who will never have careers at this or a nearby level. But that's the "game model" the club have chosen. Not for me, Jeff. Let's be competitive and have a go. I'd also rather have had Eustace instead of whatever we've had since Warburton. I'm simply pointing out that was what mostly won the game for Derby.

| Derby Reflection on 11:14 - Apr 26 by nix | Yes odd that one. What do you think we should do re GKs Brian? Have Walsh on the bench next season? Send him out on loan for the following season? Go with Cooper who’s at least had some more games under his belt? I know we’re going to be tight financially but I think the GK is too valuable a position to wing it again. Also GKs seem relatively cheap for the goals they save compared to how much strikers cost for the goals they score. |
It's so hard to know, Nixy. Walsh is the only one who has the skills to make it, I think, but he has so much learning still to go through, and I'm not sure that it's doing anyone any favours him doing it as our undisputed Number 1. I wonder how his head will be for pre-season, will he believe that he's ready? I don't know enough about Cooper, but either way I think we need at least one more quality, experienced championship keeper.

This. Many on here disagree but the purpose of a professional football club is to get the first team to be succesful, and that is the only bar. If that means a couple of good, fit, available PL .loans then so be it. Everything else - the Community Trust, the Tiger Cubs, the Dev Squad, the women's team, having a young team, parading the U8s st half time - is nice, but ultimately "fluff". Seeing as it takes time to build Morgan, Bennie and Kolli into average Champ players, we needed a couple of better loans this season maybe even lending a few of our kids out instead of giving them 5 or 10 minutes here or there. Concentrate on getting a WINNING first eleven will improve the pathway as they can then be introduced into an easier environment that Smith and Adamson have seen this season...

Their winning goal looked pretty familiar unfortunatly our 2 players unable to simply stop player or ball then he fired an uncontested shot ( stunning strike to be fair) into the corner to win it. Pretty much same as Wrexham 2 injury time goals unchallenged in front of their delirious fans while we punch the ground in frustration. So now we cannot start the game ready to run through fire , ,finish the half, start the second half or close out the games the right way its very confusing what is happening

| Derby Reflection on 14:00 - Apr 26 with 1451 views | kensalriser | Failure to close down/giving opponents too much space has been a serial offence at QPR for quite a while. As much as people like to decry the standard in the Championship as being shite, it really isn't in the grand scheme of things; if you keep on giving opponents at this level enough time and space to shoot from 25-30 yards out you're going to discover that quite a lot of the time they're good enough to deliver a hard, accurate shot on goal. | |

PL loans cost a lot of money and we have been there before over numerous seasons bringing in players for a season and it hasn't made us successful or even a winning team. Yesterday, for up to 65 minutes we were by far the better team which we couldn't see out. But, out of the two teams I'll put money on us being promoted before Derby.

The bigger problem with the subs is why we're putting players who have had bad injuries in harm's way in nonsense games like this. Burrell and Poku both needed good pre-seasons, and now likely have injuries that will eat into that. Meanwhile Rayan Kolli's hanging round under us unused. Players coming back and suffering the same injury straight away over and over again is abysmal. Why are the club standing for this?

Must admit, I haven’t read all four pages here, but my take on yesterday was that I wasn’t too disappointed at all. With the result yes, but not with the game. This was the kind of game I was hoping we would play against Bristol City and Swansea. Nothing to play for, let’s give it all and entertain the crowd ( I was immensely entertained yesterday) - which is after all the primary purpose of attending sporting events. I much preferred yesterday to the 0-0 v Bristol City. Sure we got a point that day, but I was bored to tears and one extra lousy point anyway - big deal. Yesterday I was up off my sofa cheering on some of their scintillating attacking play - THATS what I pay to see. Nice to have won or drawn of course, but yesterday’s one goal defeat was night and day with Swansea on Tuesday. More of this type of performance please.

And this was after they had explicitly stated that Cook would not play the final few games as the club would be blooding youngsters as they look to the future. Er, well except Alemayehu on the bench it was pretty much the same squad as the previous games. I was expecting a bench full of the DS so they wouldn't risk Burrell, Chair, Madsen etc. Bizarre.

Totallly agree, but I think it's pretty obvious after his comments this week where Monsieur Julian stands on all these brilliant prospects we've got. Still picking Rhys Norrington Davies at left back rather than Esquerdinha, for example - utterly pointless, short term emergency cover loan who's going back to Sheffield next week. But the manager knows the alternative is nowhere near. His interview comments this week were very, very clear for me. Warburton and Cifuentes all over again.

If Walsh is not no 1 next season, we'll have to give him away. I doubt he'd be happy on the bench again, after playing so many games this season So you end up losing Nardi, Hamer and Walsh. Good move???
