Wrexham at home all over again.

Today summed up the lack of respect we are showing to end of the season with changes for changes sake, which ultimately ended up with us finishing the game with 10 men.

Yes I do get it is giving the manager the opportunity to blood youngsters to see how they cut it but pre season friendly is the place for that.

The 1st half performance was good with some good performances from players I have been critical of in the past Bennie and Morgan.

It is was it is.

I would say the season has been typical of a middle of the table team with the good being very good and the bad being very bad.

The Madsen injury affected us badly and we naturally dipped a bit then and struggled.

Next week I would imagine will be more of the same and £43 a ticket is a joke.

Has it improved from last season….i think so!

Come on you R’s

We got some positives.
Bennie played well, showing that his best position is indeed Striker. Sure it was on the right when defending, but attacking he swapped with Vale.

Vale showed he can play well against a top end of the table side. Sure Derby were not great, but he still did it.

Kone showed he can make his chances and score them.

Varane and Morgan played well, but I suspect it was becase Derby's midfield was so bad.

Adamson I feel is a DMC not a RB, he needs to play other positions as Bennie did.
Saito looked better.

Giving Nardi a last game was nice, but he did show why we should move him on. Static for the second goal.

Lets see what the summer transfer window brings.

zzzzzzzzzz

I genuinely don't understand us? If Walsh is the number 1 play him. I don't care if it's Nardi's final game. This is professional sport. People pay a lot of money to follow this club and we're so amateur.
And one thing that runs through the club is this mentality that results don't matter as we're building for the future. How come other clubs can build and prepare for the future, blood youngsters and win games?

Last season we were crap at Derby. We lost. We were crap again at Derby this season. We lost. Derby come to us and are crap. They win scoring three times. We are so soft we make candy floss look hard. We are an absolute joke of a football club.

Despite this people try to convince me we have improved. Aah yes points wise we are two points better off owing to two marvellous 0-0 draws with relegated Oxford. We have one of the worst defences in the Championship but honestly we are improving. Apparently I only imagine that we are static like a torpedoed ship unable to move season after season. Nothing will change until new life and a new mentality envelopes this depressing football club that just constantly make me feel ill.

Two weeks ago I said we’d probably not get another point - looks like I will be right. Last season I felt angry at end of last home game, this season the feeling is what’s the point and a sense that we are more likely to get worse than better. And they are charging more to watch this drivel.

Totally bizarre to see Nardi in goal. Rounds off the whole season's worth of absolute farce around the goalkeeping position. Was it a farewell game? I'm all for treating our departing players properly, but usually reserve that for the successes like Cook, Field, Hill, Barbet etc rather than an average goalkeeper who we'll probably struggle to remember in ten years' time. As another poster said, we're not a charity. Trying to both win football matches and build for next year should be the aim, no? Whatever the criticisms of Walsh, how can you back him as your Number 1 then leave him out of a fixture for this?! Where's the plan?

Anyway, enjoyed how we played until the subs ruined it all. What is it about our young defenders? They come on and look absolutely bereft. Which is a shame as I thought Bennie and Morgan were really good on the youngster front. Kone's goal was fantastic in its own way, I am really looking forward to him next season if he doesn't get sold for a bag of chips.

Usual thing though, no leaders, no experience = soft as when the going gets tough.

Goodbye season 25/26, I will not long remember you.

Bizarre taking him and Morgan off, though I suppose they are trying to get minutes in Chair and Madsen, but why?

Bennie gets dogs abuse on here by some, yet here was a 19yo who was the best player on the pitch today. And if you watched Morgan and Varane today, but didn't know which one was being linked with a £5m move, you'd say Morgan.

Bennie needs minutes too. Especially playing like that. That performance will have done his confidence the world of good. I have high hopes for Bennie. Yes, he has been quite inconsistent, but, unless you're Wayne Rooney, any teenager in their first professional season will be a bit like that. He has shown enough for me.

What on earth do you mean by this? Are you suggesting Stephan should have ignored Williams' advice and known better about the condition of Burrell's hamstring? If so... WTF is the point of Williams and his army? Could we get rid of the lot and spend that money on U25 season ticket concessions so a few more can still afford to come to games?

Positive advice about the state of someone’s hamstring doesn’t automatically mean they should be selected. There are other factors to be considered. That’s the managers job.

What does 'positive advice' mean? Williams should be giving informed, common sense advice, particularly after the litany of repeat hamstring injuries over the past two seasons.

Of course, we don't know for sure what conversations have been had between Williams and Stephan, but Stephan has recently spoken about the need to keep players injury free. That is a criticism of Williams and his performance staff who are racking up a terrible record.

The wording you’ve nit picked over here is irrelevant. The point is that ultimately it is Stephane’s responsibility to pick the players who play and not the medical/conditioning/insert poncey name here team. What benefit has it been to bring back Poku or Burrell to play in dead rubbers when we’ve had sufficient players to cover their positions?

The medical team make the decisions over whether a player is fit enough to play not the manager. If players have been selected to play while not ready, or not physically prepared, then that is on Williams and his team. Otherwise, what exactly do they do?

What other things need to be considered ?
Both games were dead rubbers so tactical reasons surely take a back seat . I can only think of a players mental condition (confidence etc) but it was their physical condition that failed and the recommendation of fit to play has to come from the Willams camp .
IMO Nourry wanted to claim that apart from the really long term injuries we had a fully fit squad by the end . What they did was a huge risk on Poku, Burrell Chair and Madsen. 50% broke down and the other two were miles off and played at barely half pace .

….and the substitutions lost us the game. The way the club treat us fans is appalling. How many stayed in the ground to watch the players do a ‘lap of honour’ yesterday…. I didn’t!

Scooters, Tunes, Trainers and QPR.

Back to the game, a number of us in the Stanley stand were purring at the way we were playing it just needed the 2 goal gap. Their 1st goal was so lucky, misfit to one of theirs to get a shot in.
On reflection I would rather lose yesterday when it meant nothing, but we were mugged by a team that seemed to get bigger with every substitution.
On the injuries, hindsight is wonderful but Burrell has played for a few weeks in short spells as has the others so looks like a controlled return to fitness. Sadly Poku is obviously a serious problem.
Over 3 months for Burrell, Poku, Jimmy, Obikwu et al to get fit again, should be more than enough.
We did play some lovely stuff yesterday but goals against tell the story. Have a great close season guys and girls.

We'll beat Ipswich. After 3 straight defeats, nothing to play for, more injuries, against a side that will either be up or need points to assure they go up, we'll go there and win. It's what we do.

Never knowingly right.

Derby’s keeper made 10 saves, ours made zero. It’s as simple as that.

A good keeper gains you points, a poor keeper loses you them. Our keepers are dreadful and if it isn’t addressed someone’s job should be on the line.

I agree we need a decent keeper. I really think we’ve lost a number of points this season as a result. The extended highlights commentator said several times their keeper kept them in the game. Ours certainly didn’t. Not sure why Nardi came back for that match? Maybe because it’s his last one for us to say goodbye?

Desperately unlucky again with the injuries to players who’d come on as subs. After the Millwall match where we looked much better with Madsen, Chair and Burrell on the pitch I get the changes. But frustrating nevertheless. Unfortunate that Mbengue also needed to come off which left us with ten men after the others also needed to leave the pitch. I don’t think Burrell’s was bad as he didn’t look as upset as Poku did. Hopefully just a twinge but I don’t want to see him at Ipswich.

But looking back at the highlights we really did dominate in terms of chances made. The commentator was also clear on this and seemed to think we were unlucky to lose the game.

One thing that’s clear is where we need to bolster the squad. I’m glad some of our young players have had some decent minutes on the pitch. Should be useful for them next season. Don’t think Adamson can be back up FB though and we definitely need one if not two LBs. We missed Jimmy today, particularly in the last ten minutes.

I completely agree with your first sentence. As for the rest of your post, I’m struggling to see what people don’t get about what I’ve said. No one on here will have the first clue about the data/medical conditioning etc about any of the players. What I’m saying is quite simple. IfJS is told a player is fit to play that doesn’t mean he has to play him.

As for other factors to be considered in selection there are a myriad. Use your imagination.

I get your angle but for me the point is that JS does not get the chance of selecting them if they are not ready unless the Williams team says they are and that green light has shown to be flawed .
I don't think any modern coach would ignore medical advice . Of course pressure could be applied to both Williams and JS to get the injured players on the pitch ASAP

Yeah, it'll be like this:

After training on Friday, JS will ask Burrell how he feels:

Burrell: Ready to play!

He asks medical team: Can he play and for how long?

Medical team: he's fit but would not risk more than 45.

JS: names him on bench. Sees Bennie wilting a little after an hour, thinks the win is there. I'll give him and Madsen 30 mins to nail it.

Oh.

As much as we think QPR threw it away after an hour, we should recognise that the game's two outstanding players in Derby's central midfielder Ozoh and winger Banel actually changed the game in their favour.

Ozoh devoured a tiring Varane and, oh my, did Banel make short work of Adamson. Surprised neither started. Ozoh is on loan from Palace and if we could get him next season... (but I reckon he'll be in the PL)

Yes odd that one.

What do you think we should do re GKs Brian? Have Walsh on the bench next season? Send him out on loan for the following season? Go with Cooper who’s at least had some more games under his belt?

I know we’re going to be tight financially but I think the GK is too valuable a position to wing it again. Also GKs seem relatively cheap for the goals they save compared to how much strikers cost for the goals they score.

Having slept on its and having had further time to reflect, that games yesterday is a total microcosm of our season in many ways.

Fast exciting football, that petered away in the final 3rd of the match/season due to injuries and losing key players at vital times

Some young players really establishing themselves

Some young players being so far off the standard its like playing with 10 men

Total reliance on Kone to get ourselves up the pitch / out ball

Poor and shaky goalkeeping costing us games and points

Playing ourselves into trouble from goal kicks

Backup full backs not being at this standard or even the ones below and costing us games

Inconsistency in the central of midfield, when we win the midfield we win when we lose the midfield we lose.

Consistently making the wrong decision in the final 3rd (If ever there was a perfect example of Paul Smyth as a player it was yesterday, shot when he should have passed, poor crossing yet tore them apart in the middle 3rd) Bennie passed twice when he should have shot and scored

Conceding far too many goals and rarely being able to point the finger at the centre backs who both yesterday and throughout the season have been pretty decent yet we have conceded more goals than most

Tactical ridgity especially in game, yesterday we switched formation to 4-1-4-1 which worked a treat with the players on the pitch, but then when the subs were made we stuck with it no matter what ending up with the wrong players in the wrong place (Burrell cannot play on his own upfront / Kolli for Kone had to be the sub) Chair at 10 rather than on the left.

Subs unable to maintain consistency of performance (we always seem to get either drastically better or drastically worse)

Let's hope the club and the management can see what is wrong and understand why we are probably 10pts off where we should be.

Agree with all of this.

Re: CBs I might be wrong and haven’t checked this at all but it seems to me we’ve conceded a lot of goals from distance and/or not scored by strikers which would fit in with your theory that the CBs have largely been pretty good.
