I just read that Gail's club sandwich has equivalent salt to 6 cheeseburgers. I do like Gail's though. Fav sarnie ? The classic bacon and white bread with a touch of brown sauce is popular and rightly so. Today, I had Italian ham, Leerdammer cheese and the white bits of a spring onion. Millwall fans favour the knuckle sandwich I'm told.
A sandwich in Florence lives long in my memory. Schiacciate, which is like a thin bit of focaccia, fresh roast pork with crackling, an artichoke paste, a slab of pecorino, and a tumbler of chianti. The queue was long, but moved fast.
There’s a bagel shop up here in Ipswich that does a salt beef bagel with mustard,and it’s one of the best I’ve ever tasted.A bit pricey though at £7.99 but it’s well worth it.

The sandwich shop in the arcade in Penzance makes a chicken surprise sandwich which is chicken and bacon with chopped cucumber, spring onion and tomato all in mayonnaise - I used to buy it a few years back but now make my own version of it and it's the tastiest thing in sliced bread. A nice ham sandwich with salad and mustard close in second. Toastie sandwich - always cheese and onion.
Said it before and I’ll say it again: Scotti’s Snack Bar, Clerkenwell Green EC1 is just the best. Al and his brother Max (and their parents before them) have kept the place going virtually unchanged since 1967. Think I’m addicted to the chicken escalope sandwiches (Al suggested I forego the onion though the other day when I told him I would be attending a beer festival later on, a sage bit of advice as it turned out). There’s a great photo somewhere online of the geriatric Hatton Garden jewel heist gang sitting outside watching the world go by.

In New York the pastrami on rye from Katz famous delicatessen is unbelievable
Reubens Deli on Baker Street is great for all that stuff. Used to stop off for a pastrami on rye or chopped liver sandwich from time to time. I presume it’s still going. The place did seem to burn down rather a lot!
As a kid my mum made a combo of tuna, onion and salad cream sandwiches.
Unusual for a kid to like Tuna but I loved them
They did a magnificent tuna, egg and mayo sandwich at the Piccolo Bar, Blackfriars back in the day. Used to sit on the church steps next door or park up on the cab rank outside to eat them (with a packet of plain McCoy’s and a single espresso thrown in). Happy days.

Had a pastrami on rye in a deli in downtown Montreal (don't remember which one - maybe Schwartz?). About 5 inches thick, pickles, slaw, fries etc . Still rates as the only sandwich I've ever been concerned I might not finish. Truly awesome.
Best toastie: cheese and marmite. Accept no substitute.
