Same old problem. No one in CM who has any creativity and ability to unlock a defence, a problem that we have had for 30 odd years.
How many touches does Rice need? At one point I counted him make 6 and then a 10 yard pass. Poor.

Ghana Could have been awarded a penalty on another night and Pickford was lucky to eacape a card when they finally broke through MrSheen so I have to give them credit , I thought they would never survive that .

Ghana has just played for a draw and got their objective. No less Cabo Verde against Spain and DR Congo against Portugal.
0-0 draws with some of the World Cup favourites celebrated like they had won.
With Spain, that's a huge upset tantamount to Capo Verde winning a cup final, for Portugal they said everyone passing to Ronaldo to score.
For England?
Argentina won the World Cup in 2022 losing to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia!

But how was Eze asked to play, he was very advanced which seemed wrong to me as you need him on the ball.

The Pickford one looked a clear foul on him, the Ghana player went for him, was lucky not to be booked.
Thought the penalty was one of those 50/50 ones. He does touch him but it's where FIFA have got VAR right this tournament so far, if it's a close one stick with the ref so if he gives it you don't over turn that
The game was so stop start though, so many stoppages no real chance to get any momentum in the game. |  | | |

Sadly I can’t think of anything positive he contributed regardless where he was asked to play: he threw himself to the floor on the left expecting a cheap free kick like you’d get in the Prem but quite rightly the ref was having none of it and it almost led to a Ghana breakaway goal. Hoping he gets another chance. How Gordon has had so many minutes is a mystery as he’s been poor both games: don’t think he beat his full back once last night. |  | | |

Ghana didn’t appeal much for the pen which surprised me but maybe tells its own story.
Most disappointing was the lack of imagination from England/Tuchel.
- Gordon & Madueke could’ve switched flanks occasionally.
- We pushed up high all the time making the pitch small & playing to Ghana’s game plan, where was the knocking it around at the back/Pickford to draw Ghana out like we did vs Croatia.
- Pushing Rice further forward to up the tempo worked 2nd half vs Croatia, it didn’t work vs Ghana. I’d rather Anderson go box to box and Rice sit than the other way round.
- Bellingham needed to link up with Kane more, seemed he was dropping to link up with midfield more often which unbalanced the midfield and general shape. |  |

Hopefully Saka is fit enough to start v Panama, but anyway he's a nice option to have off the bench.

I agree with DaveB, I thought the Ghanaian swung at the ball missed and kicked Pickford. Should have been yellow.
I disagree on the penalty shout, it looked clear and obvious to me. Hit the opponent first and missed the ball anyway.
I thought Eze was fouled.
Inconsistent refereeing again. Rice yellow after Ghana complaints. England attacks stopped by holding but no yellow given.
With Eze, it would help if the players were brave enough to pass to him when he is on the edge of the box. | | | |

Pickford had minimal to do and what he did do he did badly!! Lost his head on a few occasions and we got away with it.
I felt once Madueke moved to the left things were better and then Tuchel took him off. O'Reilly looked good when he came on as did Saka who in my opinion when fully fit will be the best England player of this world cup. And where is Mainoo. Would like to see him get a chance too as I really think he is quality

I wouldn't say that there's too much pressure on the Panama game - we're almost certainly through with four points, but ideally we'd like to finish top of the group.
I'd expect O'Reilly will start the next game, did a lot more than Spence and was unlucky to hit the bar with that header, he'd scored a couple like that for City last season. | |

Newcastle must be laughing all the way to the bank selling Gordon to Barcelona for a decent profit. Always think he was overated even in his breakthrough season a few years back when he played for Everton at LR in the league cup when we beat them on penalties. I think our midfield looks unbalanced, always liked Mainoo but he looks like not even being seen, Tuchel may regret not taking Palmer as he has the ability to unlock defences through the middle. Anderson still not sure about him although decent in the air. Saka on the right and Madueke on the left would be a much better option, Saka made us a lot better when he came on and Djed Spence needs dropping. Feel Henderson selection is a waste unless he has been brought in as cover for Rice. Think Tuchel should have brought on Ivan Toney last night to rough up that Ghanian back line a bit as it was all a bit too easy for them. Lucky escape on the potential penalty as it looked like Ghana should have had one. |  | | |

Yeah was hoping he'd provide the key to unlocking the defence - but then I suppose you're only as good as your team mates making runs off the ball for you to pick them out.
But then he did nearly get an assist for Guehi's header that was cleared off the line. | |
