I thought Iran were excellent first half. Not too sure about the disallowed goal as there was a Belgium player at the bottom edge of the box with his arm out and I actually think, if I understand the rules, which I probably don't, that he was onside. Brilliant set piece. I'd have closed the straight over that one! They are well organised at the back and very dangerous on the break.

Belgium were superb when they went down to ten. The substitutions were very good, getting the leggy players off and the fresh legs on. Seems to be the group of death. Nothing between the teams and they seem to be slugging it out, last one standing, for the top two places. | | | |

The rule changes have worked a treat: far less time wasting with goal kicks and throw ins, hardly anybody doing a Neymar multiple floor roll after a made up foul and the one bloke who did the cover the mouth to abuse another player move got sent off. | | | |

I was really impressed with Alireza Beiranvand, Iran's keeper today. And after reading his bio it's no wonder. If he played in Europe he'd be a household name for sure (albeit one that's difficult to pronounce.)
