The manner of the defeat -- out-passed more than 2 to 1, two-thirds possession for Norway -- will sting just as much as fact of being knocked out for Brazilian public and media.
Norway coach changing wingers at half-time really worked.
Brazil still had more than enough chances to win however as shown by XG stats (not the most reliable metric, we all know).

Been a while since I enjoyed the last 10 minutes of a game that much.Did anybody else notice Haaland finished his follow through on the second goal outside his right hip such was the force and torque I pulled something sitting on my couch watching that.

Really enjoyed that Norway win. Brazil are absolutely terrible without the ball - their press is non-existent, they just seem to rely on fast breaks but Norway managed them well. Norway were literally strolling around with the ball like a training session at times. |

After last night, it will have to go some to top it, but Spain-Portugal could be a classic.
Really enjoyed this World Cup. I was wary about it because of the 48-team format but there have been some fantastic matches already and teams have (mostly) been going for it rather than sitting back as has happened in knockout rounds previously.
Although not perfect, the refereeing has made a real difference, particularly not stopping the game every time someone pretends to have received a head injury or fancies a sit down. Is it too much to ask that happens in the Championship next season? | | | |

Yesterday’s decision to suspend for a probationary period of a year the implementation of the one-match automatic suspension following the red card issued to the player Folarin Balogun crossed a red line.
Football, like any other sports, relies on rules, which are the basis for fair, honest and transparent competition. Sometimes rules are open to interpretation. In this case not. A minimum automatic suspension of one match following a red card is not a discretionary option and does not require the decision of a competent body to be enacted. It is a principle embedded in regulations, which cannot be made subject to exceptions, let alone in the middle of a tournament where several other players have been in the same situation and regularly served their suspension.
When the certainty of rules is no longer guaranteed by its guardians, the integrity of the game is at stake and the credibility of a competition is undermined. Equally, such decision creates a precedent in the ongoing tournament, where similar situations will now require an equal treatment, to the detriment of the competition.
Football is the most loved sport in the world because it is a beautiful game and is trusted because it is played everywhere with the same laws. A tournament is never a pure standalone and, if the tournament in question is the World Cup, it has the power to drive positive or negative consequences on the game as a whole.

He claimed it was a "great injustice".
Well, if that was the case then the red card would have been rescinded (not that he should have interfered anyway) but the fact it's been suspended means it's still a red card, just that the 1-match ban has been deferred. So, it's not overturning an injustice, it's match rigging.
Every country who now gets a red card, including England from last night, should apply for the same suspension under the same article Infantino cited.
