Just back. Overall a very encouraging performance although the injuries to Koné and Madsen are concerning.
Keeper Charles caught my eye. He wasn’t really put under much pressure (very unlucky with Fiorentina’s first goal) but he looks confident and his distribution, as many here have observed, was impressive. I also like the way he moved up the pitch just behind the back four when we had possession. It felt like we had an extra outfield player. I think we had a glimpse of what an injury-free Poku might be capable of too.
As a non-footballing aside, during the pre-entry security check, a steward, on discovering a small plastic bottle of water in my pocket, told me to remove the cap and hand it over (the cap, not the bottle). Obviously I asked why and he explained that I might throw it onto the pitch.
Interestingly, the bottle itself (and contents) didn’t appear to raise any concerns. And, of course, once I’d made it to the concourse of the Upper Loft there were bottles galore, all freely available to buy at the various food and drink outlets and all coming complete with plastic caps attached.
Am I going mad or is there a perfectly good rationale behind this policy?
If you’re drinking water from a bottle that still has a removable cap you might want to ask the vendor, how old is this bottle of water.
Noticed last season that Rangers were still selling water bottles with removable caps, you gotta laugh.

Decent run out for First team. Entertaining. Remember it was a friendly and played like it too. Encouraging but let's not go OTT. Pre season is about building up, so OK to experiment a bit. Injuries are the obvious worry. I hope we'll get updates soon.
2 games next weekend should see the speed improved, ahead of competitive matches. I think we've got a squad of about 16 who should be good enough.

Just to add to BottlecapGate, I bought a diet coke yesterday and the girl left the cap on it.
It's better anyway because I'm less likely to tip it over someone, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a combination of needing to follow the new directive on caps, plus the idea that the people working there haven't got the time or inclination to be ripping them off every bottle they sell.

There are recent rumours that ‘Wall have discovered total football and are convinced that’s how they will finally get promoted by changing their approach to the beautiful game - but only after the Milk Cup game.
Expecting the full range of full on pressing, dark arts, bullying and getting at the ref. Less passive aggressive, more aggressive aggressive.
Encouraging to see our approach, possession and play making yesterday but I hope we have prepared for the regular league games too because we will get it most weeks as you rightly point out.

Just to clarify, my small bottle of Highland Spring did have a tethered cap, fully compliant with Article 6 of the EU Single-Use Plastics Directive. I was instructed to forcibly twist the thing off and hand it over, no mean feat given the feebleness of my wrist anatomy (cue jokes).
Presumably Rangers flogging non-compliant water bottles counts as a Brexit benefit.

We had some Carlsberg at the Derby game and it was at least 4 months out of date although that is better than them trying to pour cans into glasses yesterday, nevwer been slower to get a drink on the concourse, was chaos.

I quite enjoyed the game, you can't read much into these games but we played some nice stuff and the midfield 3 of playmakers was fun to watch. Chair was excellent, Madsen, Smyth and Lloyd all did well and like the look of Kemper.
I didn't think Burrell out wide worked for him or us but worth looking at.
The drop off after the subs came on was vast and we were hanging on a bit after that. Poku was good the rest less so.
Keeper was like an outfield player with his passing range, still not sure if he's that good as a keeper as wasn't hugely tested.
Nice to be back in W12 though

In addition to "BOTTLE CAPGATE" , last season and yesterday also, unfortunately the staff are so slow in serving and there isn't enough staff being employed. I agree with you Dave.
Not their fault and am aware they would only being on minimum wage, but it is actually a big part of the matchday experience.
Some people like to have a couple of beers with their mates before the game and again at half time, some like taking coffee or soft drink into the ground and some like having the pies and the chips - cant understand that one !!
But they dont want to stand around for fifteen, twenty minutes to get served, so they miss parts of the game only to be given the wrong item, because the staff struggle with english or are just not cut out from doing this kind of role.
In the grand scheme, a few extra staff, check out their credentials and experience, and give them some training, so you are already aware of who might be the most suitable, but select people who are proven in hospitality under pressure, check out bonafide references also, and you could even double the hourly rate of the staff.
Its not as if 40 staff on £25 per hour for three or four hours every other week is going to break the bank, when you have had Zan Celar on the books earning £10 grand a week for contributing much less.
But the fact the service is so slow, means people are queueing up way too long. And as for the cap situation, I have it taken off sometimes and other times not !!
Do i tell them - no - I like my caps on my bottles - thank you very much....

I’m pretty sure we don’t employ them directly. For logistical reasons most sports events are catered for by massive corporations who can manage the economies of scale required. So if someone can’t make one weekend they’ve got fifty other potential employees, they can order huge quantities so buy in cheaply etc.
The problem is that there’s not enough competition between these massive companies so they can afford to be crap and still get enough contracts to be uber wealthy. It’s like moving between Sky and Virgin, you’re unlikely to improve the experience. The people running it don’t really care though. Where I was we got to half time and one of the staff decided it would be a good time to disappear. So we had one person serving everyone.
I don’t blame the club because it’s pretty similar at most of the away matches I go to as well. Uber capitalism innit.

My friend works for a hotel, where they have five weddings a week, although some times its two so its all temporary staff. And they keep the same staff who are experienced and they dont have issues with staff - if they do, they ask for replacements and they get staff from the agency who know what they are doing and pay them decent money as the weddings are not cheap.
We are a football club paying wages as high as thirty grand a week in recent times.
It would not take a massive amount of money to do this in house and its seriously not rocket science, although for some it really is, unfortunately.
Maybe if we bucked the trend of the way this is done, we could be much more efficient and it seriously could get those extra few people through the doors and more feel good vibes within the stadium. It could mean occasional visitors never come back or otherwise.
It is not an insignificant part of the matchday experience.
