I am not sure anyone else can turn it around, even if they get someone in tomorrow. Also, the players know this too. They fecked up too many windows, and they know it.
I remember one game where it was 0-0, and PNE started to waste time in just the 30 min. Shameful, L1 for them; finally, the dark arts masters have been caught out.

They should have been out of sight at Watford well before the equaliser and eventual winner.
But I think where xG falls down a bit is that you aren’t trying to score uniformly across the game. The team losing is going to clock up more shots than if they were winning. The team that set up with eleven behind the ball for a 0-0 and got 0 xG for an hour before going 1-0 down will get more xG in the final half hour than if they were still clinging to the draw. It’s not nonsense but it is flawed.
Preston lost their first four and were behind for nearly 300 minutes across the four. Then played well against Blackburn and Watford then were 0-0 for most of the Lincoln game, creating very little in the process. | | | |
