That looked a proper team out there today. Lets give the guy some props.

Tough job and I think he is proving his worth. None of us really know what happens behind the scenes. Obviously a really intelligent bloke, who is modernising the club to the best of his abilities. Since he joined we seem to be moving in a positive direction.

Injuries are being managed, due to the depth in squad, which he is accountable for 👏👏

Nourry on 00:50 - Oct 25 with 2486 viewsnumptydumpty

The guy gets little credit from several on here, but as said midweek, we win and his name is never mentioned. We lose and somehow he totally gets pelters.

I find it all very strange.

Was a great line up at half time. Nourry was there with Clarke Carlisle, Mark Lazurus's son and Gerry Francis too to give Andy Sinton thanks for being an incredible ambassador for the club.

A nice touch too.

Said midweek, three years ago, we were watching Ainsworth's team playing awful football, losing ten and more home games in the season miraculously survive relegation when facing total oblivion with an ageing squad.

Yes there is always the concerns over injuries and currently we have many and yet today we totally annhilated the league leaders. And what is encouraging we now have one of the youngest squads in the championship.

The appointments of Cifuentes and now Stephan have both been successes, particularly after the previous three of Beale, Critchley and Ainsworth.

A lot has been made of his age and lack of previous experience, but again you can't really complain about a definite upward trajectory in most areas of the club. Even the communication with the fans has been addressed too. Definitely learning from mistakes quickly.

If somehow, we get less injuries also, then there are really zero reasons for frustrations.

Clearly a very intelligent man with a belief in himself, but saying all this, we lose five nil at Southampton, there will be countless comments on here about all that is wrong with the man.

Its a shame really that a lot of the fanbase are yet to warm to him and a lot never will. Yes, personality wise, he is not one of us and think that could be the issue for a few. And he has helped with excellent recruitment in all areas of the club, made some tough choices like letting go club favourite Paul Furlong go and not appointing a club legend in Charlie Austin for a youth coaching role. No room for sentiment. All decisions for the long term future of the club.

If I ever hear Christian Nourrys name sung in the Loft, then blooming heck, that would be a total shock.

But he deserves credit absolutely.

He inherited a mess and a few years in now, he's clearly doing a better job than his predecessors, for which we can go back many, many years. So, credit is due.

Would still like him to come across as a bit more 'fancentric' if you know what I mean. And if by dint of some miracle we got promoted, I'd also hope he wouldn't go all, premiership tourist on us.

But like many who criticised him, his methods, thus far, have yielded football that's exciting to watch despite many hurdles we have to overcome to achieve it. Well done young man!

Poll: Who should do the Birmingham Frederick?

Nourry on 08:17 - Oct 25 with 1978 viewsOakR

He made mistakes when he first came. Some bad signings and not great communication with supporters.

He has balls of steel to get through all the vitriol thrown at him last season, especially considering his young age.

Since then he's got better at some communication (if not to the level some want) but the last fans forum I thought he was good. We've signed JS and made many good signings, the squad is clearly better ability wise but more importantly we have many more of the 'right sort'.

We are going the right way, he is not being discussed much which means he is doign a good job. Some will never like him no matter what he does, and if we lose 4 in a row the knives will be out again but the club feels much better now.

Still sad Furlong left, and some things like that are harder to understand.

Overall though, doing really well and also learning from his past mistakes.

To state the obvious, Nourry is no more responsible for the 5-0 against Swansea than the 0-3 against Birmingham.
His role is to set the strategy and oversee all areas of the club operations, not the team performance in individual games. As such there are areas that he has done well but other areas not so good. In particular, the situation with regard to player injuries/ fitness is one that he needs to address quickly or it will totally derail the overall strategy.
The criticisms that have been made on the message board last week are no less valid because of Saturday’s result.

I think thats being slightly disingenuous. Yes, theres areas of the club that needs improvement, injuries are a problem, communication is still an issue. But player and manager recruitment has improved. If you cant give props to the guy who made those player purchases after a 5- nil win, when can you?
I know its still early in the season and as we all know from previous campaigns, it can unravel very quickly. But that team out there yesterday are playing out of their skins, playing for each other, real strong characters and deserve all the plaudits.
Maybe I have gone a bit early with giving some credit to Nourry, but if we lost yesterday we would all be quick to criticise him and vocalise our concerns.

I think we should be waiting till the end of the season before getting the bunting out for Nourry

At the moment it looks good but we've spent a lot of money over the last couple of years so we are where we should be and we all know how long the Championship season is and we were in a similar position last season until the wheels fell off

What I will say it's fun to watch this side and this season has been very enjoyable so far onwards and upwards

Don’t trust the fella - not sure I ever will.
The state of the sports science side is well documented and his loyalty to his mate is highly questionable there.

However, I’ve been on the record for giving him credit in removing the culture of mediocrity that used to pervade at the club.
The shake up well overdue at youth and development levels that had a losing culture for ages; I still
Don’t get the Furlong departure as he actually delivered.

This is his third season and it’s judgement time now.
Let’s see where we end up but so far so good for him, us and the club

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

You look back at the squad between 2019 and 2024 and you wonder how we stayed up. This year's squad, even with the injuries, is the best we've had in ages. That is largely down to Nourry. When you think he's managed to bring in players like Burrell, Kone, Lamptey, Cirkin, Varane, Charles, Vale, Poku, Kamara, Kemper, Dembele etc, some of who we got because of their injury history, so a physical and financial gamble in some cases, the squad is much much better than it was.

Never knowingly right.

I think Nourry needs to be given credit for seemingly allowing the recruitment lead recruitment and be data led . Ratther than the manager signed him , DOF signed him and recruitment team signed him which was present in the last regime.

We now need to sell some of these players and how Nourry deals with the inevitable twitter backlash will be interesting as another failure of previous regimes was trying to be popular rather than what was best for the club

Its the first time, it has happened. And half the responses in this thread are begrudgingly thankful or impressed by whats happened.

Some people wont ever like him, even if we got to the premier league and stayed there. They would still not be in support of him. And mainly because they dont really like him as a person rather than they dont like the processes he uses and how he operates to get results.

Its clearly obvious to me. And some people on here who think like this, some have said this also.

They will say the jury is still out as nothing has changed or improved as yet. But if they are honest, any success he achieves will hit this narrative because they would rather someone else was in his job.

He wouldn't be in my group of friends, but if he is getting the results, then for me that matters not a jot. Couldn't care less if he is in my friendship circle.

Doing an excellent job for me and also learning from the mistakes along the way. To stick to your beliefs when you get criticism from aÄşl quarters, takes the possession of a Rhino's skin, which most do not have the abilities to not be affected from the abuse.

Well done to him I say.

I'm all for constructive criticism when it's merited, and there are clearly some key areas that require major improvement (stadium, fitness, communication, etc). However, this should be balanced with credit where it's due. We're seeing some improvement in other areas (development, academy, mentality, culture, etc). Whilst Nourry clearly has no direct influence on tactics and formation, to suggest he is in no way responsible for what we're seeing on the pitch is rather beggarly. Ultimately, the end product is a reflection of the strategy and approach. I far prefer the club's current approach to the wasteful days of Tony Fernandes. And this is coming from someone who was initially sceptical of the board hiring someone with so little experience for a senior directorial role. Overall, the Nourry Jourry's still out for me. Let's see where we are in 2-3 years time.

“We have spent a lot of money so we are where we should be.”

But this is simply not true, is it?

In terms of money spent on the overall squad/ annual budget we are typically placed around 15th give or take. Even some of Nourry’s critics on here admit that finishing around 12th would be satisfactory. There is a basic point I think a lot of Nourry-sceptics ignore: the fact that we have spent more than in earlier years is irrelevant when trying to work out where we “should” be in the table. The key metric is how big our budget and total spend is relative to other teams. As myself, Nix and others have shown, a lot of “middle of the pack” teams in this division are now spending eye-watering sums that absolutely dwarf our outlay.

I do accept that there is a big question over the sports science side of things and ultimately that is on Nourry, particularly when Williams is so much his guy.

But here’s another way of looking at this: if we can get to 8th place after 12 games, having thrashed Swansea and Derby, drawn away to WHU and got a couple of away wins, typically achieved with 5/6 absences, just imagine (it’s easy if you try etc) if we had all our key people fit for the run in - I think it could be really exciting. Big “if” I totally accept.

As someone posted on the match thread yesterday, despite all our injuries we were still able to put out a strong starting 11. That’s due to the strength in depth Nourry has built.

There were loads of posts praising Stephan for our victory, and rightly so. These passed without critical comment. Yet someone posts a pro-Nourry thread and for some it’s like the offending poster has farted loudly in church.

Got to give him credit for a lot of good signings, doing a lot better than les in that department , my only gripe is the injury/sport science issues and the lack of communication between fans and board

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Agree. He’s recruited well ( no Celar type disasters) . And Stéphan is shaping up to be quite promising. Let’s see how the next 12 games go and whether we get to have any kind of cup run. I guess expectations have been so low that 5 wins in 12 games is mind blowing. Which

I'm not sure. As someone who gets frustrated when we lose and people get very negative on here, it's also a bit premature to be giving huge props to Nourry after a victory - JS is right, we mustn't get carried away in either direction.

I'm generally positive about the direction of the club, but some things still give me pause (communication, injuries, Furlong). We can make a judgement at the end of the season.

I broadly agree with the general sentiment of this thread - whatever criticisms you can make of Nourry our recruitment’s definitely improved - but “no Celar type disasters” is wrong. Nourry was appointed Jan 2024, Celar signed July 2024.

Tbf I never said we should give Nourry huge props or even start getting the bunting out. I just thought its only fair to give Nourry some props after a 5-0 win and a magnificent performance.
Nourry has clearly ruffled a few feathers at the club and support base. Just seems weird some of the attitude on here. I even got a down vote from Antti. Not sure all the reasons behind this reluctance to give the guy some credit for helping to build a very good team, after that performance and result. Im not on the payroll btw im just very unsure about the level of critism aimed at him. Ive also been critical of him too btw and im not pointing fingers at anyone.

We dropped 4.5 million on Edwards in January so for me we have spent a lot of money

We should be finishing in the play offs this season and anything less is a failure imo nothing wrong with having some standards and it seems Jimmy Dunne agrees with me

The only thing that will be holding us back will be keeping the squad fit.
