The answer, as with so many things, is in the accounts, and FFP. We need to get every last penny in revenue we can. Still, I wonder exactly how much we get from said partnerships, and whether it's really worth smashing up a hard won reputation to this extent.

I hope they made sure the cheque cleared before putting the company name on the shirts. This could be a bit short lived.

Cotton wool society mate. I’m not going to sit here and say alcoholism and betting hasn’t ruined lives as it clearly has. Also the wide and easy availability will have made things worse. I just don’t buy it that seeing a company’s name on a football shirt makes people want to go out and stick their house on red at the nearest casino. Fine line though as I also think Ray Winston encouraging you to “ave a bang on dat” at half time helps and does actually encourage gambling. The next attack will surely be on Domino’s pizza causing obesity with their adverts for a slice at halftime I dunno

I'm with the majority gambling advertising doesn't sit comfortably with me at all but we are in a Financial hole with FFP and we need as much revenue as possible, bearing in mind we have a small ground with very few, virtually nil additional revenue streams outside of match days. The bit I genuinely don't like is reading the reviews on Trustpilot, surely if we have to make a deal with a gambling company can we at least get one with a half decent reputation.... There are only 53 reviews and if you look at some of reviewers other reviews a lot are serial slaggers

Of that £350k or so, £360k was a loan and last accounts show a loss of £105k. My guess their sponsorship is a punt to get their name out this year to get some traction. More likely is we'll get another Football Index.

Serial slaggers or paid to give competitors a bad name? (not that I'm defending Copybrt)

if you look at the % of bad reviews its similar to bet365. Bookies tend to get poor reviews generally all we can do is hope their is enough money in the deal for the club to offset any tarnish that might result from the association

I think winners might give them a better review than losers do.Not being a gambler myself,I don’t know which bookies are good and which are bad.I just know that there are too many of them still around.

Think you may ( or may not) be in the minority on this one - I really don't see the 'reputational damage' in associating with a betting company - as seems to be the theme on here, I would venture to suggest this isn't replicated in the world at large. We're not going to agree on this but as someone said above alcohol that kills far far far more people than gambling is seen as 'OK' but betting isn't - just seems odd to me - as my viewpoint no doubt seems odd to you!

If only.I’m sick of seeing so called celebrities telling us it’s ok to lose our money to them as long as we’re having fun doing it.While the boss of 365 makes more money in 1 year than 52 weekly wins on the lottery. And I wonder who pays her wages, and if she’s still having fun earning it?

Paul, a genuine question for you. As a referee does the FA allow you to place a bet on football? Players or club officials down to a minimum of level 10 of the pyramid system are banned from doing so, so surely that should apply to match officials as well?

Celebrities endorse lots of things and CEOs and Chairmen/women of big companies usually earn mega bucks, but its a free country - as I said above, I accept that some see betting as THE big no no, just mystifies me really.
| More betting partners! on 17:30 - Jul 5 with 2331 views | daveB | eventually gambling advertising and partnerships with sport will be banned but it won't make a difference. Banning Cigarette companies from sponsoring sporting events and advertising didn't stop people smoking and is the same with gambling, alcohol, fast food etc Having said that we do seem to get in bed with obscure betting companies who seem to go bust before the deal ends [Post edited 5 Jul 2022 17:37]
