To be fair pretty big of him to say that his style of play hasn't been working and trying to change it.

Never knowingly right.

Would that change be actually inspired by Dobson, supposedly the more analytical and sober of the two?

Very big of him.

But we've been here before. When he joined he was telling us, as was Dobson, that we would see exciting football, then we went to "possession can do one" and rope-a-dope, opening day of the season is where teams usually show intent and what they've worked on in the off-season but within a week we've changed again.

I'd love us to play more in the way we did today, but I think we'll have to wait a while to know if this is really the new normal.

Genuinely happy for him tonight, though.

Yep, fair play to him 100%. He learnt and he changed it. Previous managers have failed in that regard and it has made for long losing runs (Warbs, Ollie, McLaren). Well done GA for flipping it.

Exactly he needs to be given credit for today, people have been laying into him for a week on here, every manager has to be judged on how they react in different circumstances and now he's starting to get his own players onboard we are seeing more commitment.

Me too but I still can't listen to the bloke, I can't help It and I still don't think he's the right Man for the job.

Today wasn't a fluke win It was a well deserved win that oh so nearly went tit's up at the end.

Two games In with a 50% win rate aint bad I suppose???

I want to like him I really do but I just don't know, not quite sure what I'm going on about.

Oh so nice to win our first game of the season and get three points In the bank.

Hmmm well we'll see I guess.

Aside from a player the club tried to sign two years ago, wasn't that was the same set of players as last week.

The thing that changed was Ainsworth, he set the players up in a way that gave them a chance. He admitted that himself.

I'm undecide too, Ted.

I find him hard to listen to sometimes as well, as he seems to contardict himself a lot.
Then there are other times, like tonight, where I'm so happy for him and his enthusiasm sways me.

Tactically, most often he confuses and confounds me.
Today was the first time I thought "yes, we're set up right now!".

And, mostly, I have this nagging feeling that we're all underestimating his smarts.

And then there's this nagging question that I can't address, let alone answer...

My main impression from Clive's interview with him is that Ainsworth has more power in recruitment and transfers than previous managers, he has more power in terms of playing style, more power in terms of our "development" model, more power in terms of our age profile, and he has effectively removed/outlasted his Director of Football. And it's all happened without much comment from club or fans.

With McIntyre now talking about another 5-7 players, Ainsworth may well have also just loosened the purse strings, and it reminded me of the question I had after Clive's interview with him: if Redknapp joined us and within six months all of the above...just...happened...wouldn't we have been in open revolt?

So, are we possibly underestimating Ainsworth's smarts?

Armstrong this week instead of Kelman last week was the other change to the starting line up. And a significant one it was too.

Lose: Ainsworth's fault
Win: Dobbo's influence

Credit where it's due. He got it wrong last week, he fronted up, changed things (not so much personnel) and got an improvement. This week he got it bang on. Won't always but this one? Yup.

Yes, you're right about the amount of say Ainsworth has, particularly with Ferdinand gone. I felt from the start the owners recruited him to change the culture of the club to something like he achieved at Wycombe. If that's the case, it would go a long way to explaining why he's firmly in the driving seat.

He’s got his faults but I’d rather listen to him after a game than warbirton or critchley any day of the week , excellent performance today from the team , get a few more in and maybe this season won’t be as bad as we thought it might be and some hoped it would be

Thats exactly what I alluded to in my post he should be given credit for making the change to the system although I think it will be begrudgingly from some people and it was combined with the fact that 4 players that he has signed started the game and are not tainted by last year's disaster.

Spot on, apart from Armstrong as well. The team was setup to give them a chance to get a result.

He has put his hand up and accepted responsibility, so fair play. My only worry is when he gets the players he wants is it gonna revert to hoofing it?

But we hats off tonight, and for the first time, in what feels a very very long time, a massive U Rs!

He’d all but lost the dressing room and was virtually left with no choice but to listen to the players feedback. He was also aware the fans were up in arms. And the board probably had a word of caution.

So let’s be realistic, he changed it because in all likelihood, he was forced into it and his job was on the line. Make the change and get to keep his job. Or do nothing and probably die on his sword.

In that regard, it’s an easy decision to make, so whilst he gets a level of credit; let’s not go overboard. And let’s remember why he was in the situation to begin with.

There are far more questions than answers at this point.

He got it horribly wrong last week I lost all faith in him but the gameplan today was so much better, we looked so much better as a team and fair play to him for making the changes

Felt a bit like when Warbs went from total football and losing 2-0 every week to conceding he might be wrong going 3 at the back and a bit more direct which gave us our title winning calendar year. Not suggesting same will happen for a second but some very positive changes this week and hope we build on them

He's obviously changed system a lot which got us the results we needed last season when we needed to stop hemorrhaging goals and managed to turn around a dire situation into 3 points within a week this year. What to expect playing style wise in the future is hard to say based on this, so I agree we have to wait and see.

However where I do find some positive is that we were consistently told he was a one trick pony, long ball merchant and we've had an array of different tactics from him so far. It shows he's not going to persist with something that's not working and is open to change which I think any manager with our squad is going to need to be.

So I'm pleased for him and mildly optimistic, which is an improvement from a week ago if nothing else.

Amazing what 1 win can do…but an array of different tactics is somewhat of a stretch!!

It’s been different variances of long ball. Even Ainsworth admits he had to now change his own style to better suit this group, and get the most out of them. Which is exactly what many of us have been saying all along; play to the squads strengths, not his.

All players knew what they had to do this week

Last week there was no plan at all

Three at the back an still chasing another seasoned pro centre / right back suggests he has chosen his set up for the season

I personally was extremely surprised that Willock was not even on the bench.

Willock am sure will play full game midweek but we hung on and just about deserved to

Smyth played well and Dykes was the workhorse he is.

Cook and Fox both seemed organised and vocal Begovic has the opportunity to be the Stejskal figure

All well and good today.

Although the last twenty minutes I aged a decade.

After match interviews are part of the managers role now but there are very few who know how to use them or even many more who simply have zero impact in how to remain positive and valid within them.

Game of inches as usual it should have been 2-2 so while the win is brilliant we have lots of issues still.
Leading by 2 goals we should have buired them but actually got worse IMO.
We cannot afford to retreat and playing hospital balls to Dykes up there by himself just lit the fire under Cardiff .
Not one QPR fan expected us to hold out with those tacticts espiceally with 10 minutes of extra time.
We did and its brilliant but we need some other plan going forward .
GA said his subs made a big difference and yes they did but in favor of Cardiff .Albert and Richards just threw gasoline on the fire IMO.
