With a respectful nod to the Glossary, which notes this extravagant claim being made whenever we lose a game or two.
Start point 1967.
My first game was in the early 70s, so it was mostly good until the mid 90s. Despite the repetitive cruddy seasons we've had in the last decade, not much doubt for me that the worst football I've witnessed was up to and around the millennium. Loathe as I am to pick out individual players, the likes of Tony Scully, Tim Breacker, Steve Slade, George Kulscar, Ian Dowie, Steve Morrow and Christer Warren still strike terror into me. Incredibly, sandwiched between nearly going down and actually going down we managed to finish 10th in 1999. We were still quite rank after relegation, hitting low points like the 3-1 loss at Colchester (could only get a point against them at home that season, too).
Looking at a single game, I would have to say that time when Paul Hart was briefly manager and we played a 9-0-1 formation against Bristol City (?). That was pretty bad.

Although some football under Hart was dreadful not sure we can pinpoint a match that we actually won.
For me the football under Ainsworth is worse than anything I’ve seen since I started supporting in the mid 80’s, Blackburn at home and Blackpool away spring to mind as the ultimate low points.

It's weird cos we won the game, but the New Year's Day game vs Doncaster sticks vividly in my mind. I ran a club night and had been DJing NYE till like 5 in the morning, I was absolutely dying. It was freezing cold, lashing rain and then in the first half, god we were absolutely abysmal. Pretty sure Benayoun came on for his debut and immediately gave the ball away with his first touch. I spent the whole of half time begging my old man to let us go home haha, he proper gave me pelters when Charlie won it in like the 92nd minute

That first year we dropped back to 3rd tier had some dreadful performances at cruddy grounds.

Getting whacked 4-1 by Peterborough on a Tuesday night with "You're not famous anymore" being sung at us a particular lowlight.
I've seen at least two 4-1 midweek defeats at Peterborough. The first one was when we were three leagues higher! Both games had a Rangers player sent off - Finch & Shitu.
I'm not sure I could pick a "winner" for an overall match, but I would have to consider the following (I'm sure there are many others to add):-
Away to Peterborough - League Cup 1968 Home to West Brom - Boxing Day 1968 Home to Bolton - shortly after losing to Chelsea in the FA Cup Home to Ipswich - 1979. relegation & re-appointing Docherty Away to Southend - a Friday night on Sky Away to Watford - first game of the season

For me (since 1977) it has to be the whole of the 2000-2001 season doesn't it? Those 0-5s at Wimbledon and Preston, 2-5 at Sheff Wed and 0-6 in the Cup at home to Arsenal (mitigation, I know, but we still supplied comical own goals iirc). And the 0-3 at home to Stockport to round it all off. Shudder. Awful.

Yeah, that season scarred me. It was just dreadful from beginning to end. I know we have had lots of shit since but 2000/01 just seemed to be the end of Rangers.
It was also when I decided to let go of Rangers. It couldn’t dictate my moods anymore. Took quite some time to truly let that happen but I’m at the pint now where I don’t care what happens to them.
A dreadful 1-0 home win live on Sky one Sunday in front of 8,000 sufferers sticks out as a right pain in the arse. Barker penalty won it I think, but it was f ucking dreadful.
Also a freezing cold 0-0 v Shrewsbury at home in 1980 was a particular low mark for a ten year old. Bored my young bollocks off.

That young lad got sent off, he’d not long been on as a sub!

As a friend once pointed out during those low periods. Players were so poor supporters who had played at a decent level thought they could at least do better.

Blackburn at home under Ainsworth is the worst I can remember in my 50 years of going to Loftus Road. It was so bad I swore I was never coming back while he was still in charge. Fortunately I didn't need to wait too long

Last home game of the 2000/01 season against Stockport. We were down and all but seven players were out of contract. Peter Crouch won every award going and it was obvious that nobody wanted to play in that match other than Crouchy. Lost 3-0 and we were lucky to get nil that day. That was the day for me that the club had hit rock bottom.
