It took me a number of years to finally persuade Dave to allow me to write an article about him/start of AKUTRS for the 30th anniversary issue. He was generous in acknowledging the role of others, and slightly embarrassed by my first draft that he felt heaped too much praise on him; which he promptly asked to be reigned in. A good egg indeed. We're lucky to have him as one of our own. Oh and TN can go f..k himself with a watermelon sideways.

Happy Birthday AKUTR's - 35 Years Old Today on 23:46 - Aug 22 with 3363 views | SydneyRs | Born out of the attempted merger with Fulham and great that its still going. Always used to buy it when a regular back in the day. Fanzines were big back then, even some non QPR ones were well worth buying. Celtic's "not the view" was always good, back then it was a battle against the club board who spent no money (club funds kept in a biscuit tin was the long running joke) while Rangers made big expensive signings and won everything as a result. Another one I remember was Gillingham's "Brian Moore's head looks uncannily like the London Planetarium" and there was a decent West Ham one. There was a shop near where I worked in London that sold lots of them from different clubs.
Happy Birthday AKUTR's - 35 Years Old Today on 23:58 - Aug 22 with 3359 views | Northernr | If you've been chipping into our Patreon, you're a big part of the reason that fanzine is still with us and survived two years of football without fans. If you do have a subscription, treat yourself to the two hours of AKUTRs history with Dave that's on there. A fantastic tale from a great storyteller. As Brian McCarthy said to me about his late mum, says goodbye and gets ready to end the call... and then the conversation really gets going.

Happy Birthday AKUTR's - 35 Years Old Today on 03:40 - Aug 23 with 3256 views | Lblock | AKUTRs is an institution……just as well, as most of us who read it should be in one. It’s an inherent part of the club. Always used to buy it avidly and I still do from time to time - always pay over the odds if I can as Dave doesn’t get just rewards for his efforts. I’ve still kept Edition One plus a few others such as one where I had a four page article printed. I’ll never forget that - sent in under a pseudonym and buzzing when Dave actually published it. Had a wry grin to myself when three or four of us were reading it pre match and one of my mates said “read this bit - bloke sounds just like how we feel”!!!! Congratulations to Dave and all at AKUTRs - you should all be proud

All true about my Mum, Clive - except she's very much alive! Happy Birthday to AKUTR's and the great DT. An incredible achievement. Edit - I've downvoted you by accident, not because you killed my Mum off

it could be a crime drama, deranged website editor travels to Ireland to get Brian's mum, so obsessed with what he's put being proved right. Confused London detective follows him, saying "Cock? that's obscene" every time he see's a certain place name. Final scene plays out in a rural pub, over pints of guiness, very, very slowly.
Happy Birthday AKUTR's - 35 Years Old Today on 08:03 - Aug 23 with 3096 views | loftus77 | Dave: Kick Up The Rs??!! QPR fan (leaving LR): Kick in the b*ll**ks, more like. Dave: Oh no - they'd still miss... A wonderful institution that's been there all my adult life and utterly part of the matchday experience just as much as kick-off, a pie and a pint. Thank you so much so to Dave Thomas and what he created. The greatest fanzine, and title, in all of football. Long may it continue.
Happy Birthday AKUTR's - 35 Years Old Today on 08:53 - Aug 23 with 3030 views | slmrstid | I had an online subscription during the Covid period as I wanted to help Dave keep it going. although stopped after that because I went back to buying the print edition last year. I don't necessarily buy every edition in a season but I did get the August one on Saturday. Dave has been kind enough to publish me twice and I know he always welcomes submissions, I'm just never sure I have that much interesting to say as much as I'd love to contribute more! Its remarkable, and to Dave's great credit, its still going when so many have fallen by the wayside. I remember an old Northampton Town one called "What A Load of Cobblers" (or WALOC for short!) Obviously is no more, but whatever happened to the guys that used to produce "In The Loft"?
Happy Birthday AKUTR's - 35 Years Old Today on 09:15 - Aug 23 with 2990 views | ngbqpr | Outside the Stadium of Light the other week, I heard a familiar voice from over my shoulder...." 'ello Nick!". Turned round and it was, of course, DT. He looked at my youngest, a strapping 18 year old now towering over us both, and just laughed. And that's when it dawned on me...I have 3 kids, aged 28 / 24 / 18...and DT has watched them all grow up over the last 23 years or so...he's seen them all ebb and flow in attendance levels, but knows none of them has ever actually lost the faith. When they're all there, and my partner too, he gives us all a particularly warm welcome, clearly delighted to see a family of Rs that he's witnessed change in shape and size but not commitment over the years, as he must have done with literally thousands of us. If any of the kids are taking a mate for the first time, they talk excitedly about 'Dave the fanzine bloke', doing their best "Kick up the Rs, braaaand new issue!" impression, and eulogising him as part of the fabric of the club and the matchday experience - which, of course he so is. When my eldest had a piece accepted a few years ago, we became the first father and son to be published by AKUTRs :) (as I think we also are for LFW - one match report each!). Big love and congrats DT x [Post edited 23 Aug 2022 14:43]

Happy Birthday AKUTR's - 35 Years Old Today on 10:32 - Aug 23 with 2889 views | terryb | I'm another that has been published in AKUTR's. I was a latecomer to reading the fanzine due to my absence from Rangers when my son's were growing up. I first met Dave outside the turnstiles in Portman Road in the late '90's & took out a subscription until I returned to the fold in 2004. Well done Dave. You are indeed an institution.

Happy Birthday AKUTR's - 35 Years Old Today on 13:32 - Aug 23 with 2734 views | paulparker | AKUTRs and in the loft were essential reading for me back in the Thompson and Chris Wright days Haven’t bought a fanzine in over 20 years as this site is basically an online version of it now That being said 35 years is great going and fair play for keeping it going this long
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Brian, I'm sure Clive meant your mum is always late. No wonder if she spends so much time chatting on the phone
Happy Birthday AKUTR's - 35 Years Old Today on 12:10 - Aug 24 with 2339 views | loftboy | Had my photo in one of the early issues, we played Southampton in the simod cup, lost 4-0 ,Parker got injured and I was on crutches after a knee operation, Dave asked me for a lift back to the station after the game, I actually forgot by the time the game ended and to this day feel guilty that he was stood outside waiting for a non existent lift!

It's worse when it is a bad result and a cry of "AKTUR'S latest issue" is met with with "Stick it up your ar3e, it's sh!t" like it was Dave's fault. I know that is one of the few things that p!$$ him off. Be nice to him, he's getting more distinguished now LOL

I used to sell for Dave for years. Outside the Loft. It was just like you said after a loss. "Kick Up The R's!" "That's exactly what they need" x 100 times. Fckin Hilarious.
