Nice one, Clive

I suspect that may have been one of the more straightforward ones to write up

I appreciate it can't be fun to relive and write these up this year but apart from awaydays these are my favourite part of the season in regards to your writing, absolutely superb.

Dieng was my choice for my player of the season. His form was a little down on the season before but I still thought he was consistently good and made few major errors despite the defensive problems/ changes in front of him. Field was my number 2, consistently good defensive performances but a lot of poor distribution marked him lower than Seny for me.

"few major errors" simply isn't true, as listed in the piece with video examples.

I do wonder if Reims want him if he speaks French? Does he?

Good for them to get a decent internal keeper on the cheap. He's better than the scums Mendy anyway.

If we can get £2m+ for him, we should sell him.

Think you might be being a little unfair on Gavin Ward there. Our last few keepers Alex Smithies, Joe Lumley, Matt Ingram have all gone on to play at a reasonably high level. Add Dieng to that list and all except Smithies were developed at the club. Regardless of whether we rate them or not, to my untrained eye it seems to be one of the greater success stories?

It’s the rarified atmosphere of the South Africa Road stand, combined with having your kneecaps squeezed at the same time. It can do strange things to a man, I can vouch for that.

Plus GA specifcially mentioned Gavin Ward as one of his trusted "inner circle" management team of 6 in last week's 18-minute interview on th official site, so he's clearly found a wqay to make sure his voice gets heard.

I'll be honest, I thought your C/D was a bit miserly. Then I read your piece and there were more errors than I had remembered so came to the conclusion by the end that your mark was very fair.

The first of several painful reads - I couldn't get through all the highlights vids I must admit.

The justifiably long paragraph on injuries also completely bang on imo.

I'm very probably over interpreting, but it looked to me like Seny managed to keep that natural swagger he has about him right through the season, even when it wasn't really justified.

Fantastic save late on at Stoke though that he (thankfully) got no credit for at the time - I'll remember him for that one alone if he moves on.

Lumley and Ingram success stories? They were both ropey as fck while they were here, and they've both been relegated from the Championship since they left.

Again, I'm forced to conclude I'm watching a different team to a lot of you guys.

I put the injury thing in there deliberately, because it obviously doesn't apply to Dieng as he played every game and I can set out the stall there without anybody immediately draw3ing the conclusion that I think he's one of the shirkers. I don't particularly want to get drawn into who was genuinely injured and who perhaps wasn't, but yeh if you've been unavailable frequently this season you'll be getting a bad mark in these.

Probably. He was born and raised in Switzerland. Though Zurich's mainly German speaking his Father's Senegalese, which also suggests he knows French.

Comparatively successful yes Clive. Compared to what we produce in other positions. Also if other clubs at this level are employing them (even if it is only Hull and Reading) then they must be better than anything they’re producing.

I think you’re right to be critical of this team/set up fwiw so please don’t hold back on my account. I’m just a fan so probably able to be more forgiving of them than you.

Clive, I think you've described the Dieng I've seen this season perfectly.

There was a time he would dominate the penalty area & relieve pressure by coming off his line & dealing with the cross. Now, he seems to have lost confidence & continually hesitates.

It took quite a while this season before I started questioning his performances, but his failure to parry a shot out of the danger area became all apparent. After his return from the World Cup, I thought he looked an inferior 'keeper to before, but perhaps I was giving too much credit previously. Like Lumley, perhaps he hasn't recovered his pre injury form, or perhaps mixing with the static C*****a custodian didn't help!

Whatever the reason, his valuation must have dropped considerably & I can't imagine any English club offering what our club would like.
