Same in Gaelic Games, they've gone out of fashion for some reason. I always insist that a goalie has one in his glove bag, and I carry spares.
I mentioned on the match fred that red contact lenses are in for a couple of decades as well. they greatly reduce glare and help a goalie pick out a ball against a spring or autumn sky, in particular. |  |

I wore a cap in F block SA Rd stand. So I'm fairly high up. It helps until you look up and then it's useless. At pitch level, it's pretty difficult for a keeper to watch play with his head down. [Post edited 22 Mar 8:46]

I used to keep wicket and always wore a cap, until so.eone skyed one straight up and i lost it (and dropped it much to the chargrin of the bowler and most of the team).
Ive often thought about that, and have two thoughts of relevance here.
1. Does the brim get in the way of high balls?
2. If your eyes are shaded by the brim, when there is a high ball, and you look into the sun, doyou eyes have to adjust to the increased light, meaning you dont have 100% vision and you can lose the ball for a few seconds while your eye adjust.
Neither are great for a keeper (in either sport!). But then again if the sun is in your eyesthat aint good either! |  |

I heard a podcast about the 18th century Navy where they said a lot of sailors wore an eyepatch so they could move it aside going below decks and adjust to the gloom down there much quicker. hence the pirate image. Not necessarily recommended for goalkeepers unless you want to play like Tony Roberts. [Post edited 22 Mar 10:45]

Can only assume the data indicates that goalkeepers wearing caps concede 0.7233% more often.
So wearing a cap would be outdated and only anecdotally effective.

The kolli goal for number 4 settled everyone down . The Wrexham collapse had everyone very nervous. Honestly thought if they got it to 3.2 they would go on and win it. Charity park Tangers and all that .
I stand right under the camera gantry in lower loft and I had the sun directly on me for pretty much the whole game . It must have been an issue for both keepers .
Thought Walsh was decent apart from the free kick . Still don’t think he commands his penalty area well enough though. | | | |
