We did OK tonight, cant moan about any of the players, they all done a job to get a win, subs included. Not fully please with the way we played tactically but understand why we played like that, Next game......no changes to the team.

| England vs Germany match thread on 20:39 - Jun 29 by Wegerles_Stairs | Don't understand why Germany kept Low on after they got spanked by Spain. They should have got Flick in for this tournament as Low was a busted flush. You've got to fancy England to get to the final now but Denmark impressed me against Wales and they're playing for Eriksen. England's football team taking a leaf out of the cricket team and taking players from Ireland to make them competitive. |

I confess I was shouting 'cross the 'kin thing' a few times as we played 'Karl the crab' football but it all ended well. Kyle Walker we superb brought back memories. Saka looks like a computer generated player in football manager 2016.

Four games into the tournament and we’re unbeaten, zero goals conceded and we beat Germany in a knockout game. Maybe time to consider that Southgate knows a bit more than the rest of us.

Hey I'm all good with the Greece 2004 approach if it means we win a tournament

There's not a single normal person who wouldn't be happy with us winning the final with 1 shot on target in a game we stifled the life out of.

I agree, when we went at them directly we had a lot more joy than our normal build-up play. It seemed too slow in general, in the first half Germany seemed to be able to pick out a forward pass and stay on the front foot when they had the ball a lot better than we could. We seemed to always play the ball backwards and across and do it slow enough that we never really pulled Germany out of shape. To be fair I assume that may in part have been down to Germany playing well themselves in their formation but it was similar in group stages as well. If it's part of the game plan and player management to slow the game down and hopefully leave us fresh for latter stages of the tournament then it's a good tactic. We just need to make sure we can go up through the gears and start to play more attacking football when needed.
| England vs Germany match thread on 10:29 - Jun 30 with 1225 views | rsonist | Point to the clean sheets against mediocre opposition if you like but I'm not actually particularly convinced that playing 2 DMs on the toes of 3 CBs - all of whom are capable on the ball and of playing with greater versatility otherwise - is making us all that much more solid. Germany were able to fashion some good openings through the predictability in possession and the comfort of our general disconnection to attack (which clearly was painfully stunted until Sterling's bit of individual heroism). It almost feels like this set-up is deliberately more psychological than tactical on Southgate's part in terms of instilling tournament discipline and focus on a youthful creative squad liable to get carried away both positively and negatively. All understandable but it does feel like a dangerous game because if and when we do concede we'll need to rely on Southgate being much quicker to react to what's in front of him than he has been to date. Just to be clear none of this is to boldly state Southgate is either genius or idiot. | | | |
| England vs Germany match thread on 10:56 - Jun 30 with 1162 views | themodfather | tight game, grealish made the impact as we had rarely got the ball to forwards with them facing the goal. pickford did well and a historic win, another clean sheet and momentum with england now! come on lads carry on the job in hand. | | | |

Mate of mine said don't worry, we haven't reached 3rd gear yet. My reply was, we have a 3rd gear??

Not that I have any hatred for the Germans but I did find myself continually shouting at the screen: ' F*ck Off, you Ch**sea B*stard'. Quite a high hit rate, last night.
