I’ll go first: Pickford James Walker Stones Maguire Shaw Bellingham Rice Sterling Kane Saka [Post edited 27 Jun 2021 9:19]

Since Ericsson only Gibraltar have been added to UEFA and we’ve not played them.

Montenegro and Kosovo, both in England's 2020 qualifying group.

Maybe it is just the amount of international football played now. Compare Shearer to Rooney for example.

My fear is the centre mid pairing of Rice and Philips won’t be adequate in possession or movement off the ball.
| England vs Germany match thread on 15:04 - Jun 29 with 1624 views | MrSheen | Jonny Bairstow obviously wants to see the game. 29 not out off 12 balls. England 31/0 off 3, chasing 186 (in 50 overs). | | | |

Really hope not, far too defensive.

Yea, I will take that team/formation. Bit disappointed that 'that man' Grealish is missing again along with Foden but I suppose Saka done well so, perhaps, he deserves a starting place. Two defensive midfielders I am not in favour but understand if the wing back are 'bombing' up and down the line. We will see if we are going to 'sit' or get at the Germans in an hour or so but it is important that we do and not allow them to dominate and run the game. Looking forward to the action. I'd have Bellingham in for one of those two.

Same here. Bellingham brings more energy and attacking threat. Let’s hope Southgate gets this right.

| England vs Germany match thread on 16:10 - Jun 29 with 1394 views | DavieQPR | Bit of Southgate flair there. Only 8 defensive players. Again he is playing not to lose rather than to win. A boring game where we will be lucky to see more than 1 goal. | | | |
| England vs Germany match thread on 16:12 - Jun 29 with 1388 views | kensalriser | Glad Saka's in, he was very good in the last game. Grealish seems to be like that apocryphal QPR reserve who gets better with every minute he doesn't play. He clearly doesn't fit into Southgate's preferred system at the moment, which is fine with me. I don't want another heroic failure tonight where we play loads of good football blah blah blah and end up plucky losers again. I'll take a solid, professional 1-0 from a heavy back pass hitting the post and going in off the keeper's arse. Good to see irony's not completely dead. | |

Disagree. The situation wouldn't faze him. He's going to be a special player, sometimes you have to give players like that their wings. Brazil wouldn't have played Pelé at 17 in the 1958 World Cup with that thinking. [Post edited 29 Jun 2021 16:25]

Oh the age argument. 1962 World Cup. Jimmy Greaves scoring goals for fun not taken because he was too young. Pele 3 months younger scores 2 goals in the final If your good enough your old enough.
| England vs Germany match thread on 16:27 - Jun 29 with 1304 views | MrSheen | All set up to hit the Germans on the break. it would be nice if they let us. Grealish is the closest English player I've seen to Kinkladze. Fabulous talent, didn't win much. | | | |
| England vs Germany match thread on 16:29 - Jun 29 with 1296 views | HantsR | Chris Waddle writes an incisive thought, "If Germany turn up then we'll be in for a right game." Matches are always that bit better when both teams turn up, I feel? | | | |
