Transfer rumours 2024 19:24 - Apr 28 with 690297 viewsWilkinswatercarrier

Started already since we thumped the Yorkshire Massive so going early.

Apparently we are linked with Bosun Lawal. Celtic, on loan at Fleetwood, centre midfield or centre back. 20 years old, Irish apparently.

Feel free to add as they come in !

Everyone is signing either a Japanese player or a Korean player in this window, so get the Korean lad in

For those worried, I think there's plenty of transfer activity to come. Nourry appears to relish it, and has approached most transfers so far with a one out, one in attitude.

I think we already had a little more leeway with FFP this summer based on the 3 years, but we've also got mroe TV money, and reduced the squad size significantly which frees up funds through wages (3 or 4 fringe players who never play could give you wages for a first team player).

Time will tell, but it looks like each new signing is an upgrade in quality, but not necessarily in cost...

So I suspect still plenty of room for manouevre. I'd expect that to be mostly used for a Willock replacement and competition / jobshare for Andersen.

Begovic -> Nardi
Armstrong -> Zelar
Dozzell -> Hayden -> Varane
Kakay -> Hevverton
Richards -> Bennie
Gubbins -> Morrison
Willock ->
Larkeche ->
Hodge ->
Archer ->
Kelman ->
Adomah ->
SDM ->

Well said, thank you.

If there's a nervousness, it's the blanks next to Willock and Adomah causing it. Obviously we needed a far more effective player to replace Adomah from last year but having that would be a huge step forward to give us more options from the bench and in three game weeks.

Willock just directly needs replacing as we're essentially running one short right now.

I feel like our remaining business hinges on Chair, Paal, Dykes and Eze sales. I'd like to think there's a plan for the event of none of those players moving clubs this month but perhaps that is a last resort plan or at least a plan B that they're not willing to invoke yet for hope of moving in a certain different direction with a different budget.

It also feels a little nervy at the moment because Chair isn't playing for whatever reason. So right now we've effectively swapped Chair, Willock, Anderson and Adomah for Kolli, Bennie, Anderson and nobody.

It's far from comfortable but as you say, I'm sure it simply won't be the case come the end of August.

If you have 3 starters (i.e., Chair, Andersen, Willock replacement), plus Smyth, you have room for Kolli, Bennie, Lloyd to develop and a way for them to get minutes without the pressure of performing every week.

I could see us playing EDB in the Andersen role too (because currently he might be regretting extending his contract as 4th choice CDM)

Having lost Armstrong we also need more (effective) pace. And those players tend to be rare and costly.

I would argue that Archer has been replaced by Walsh, so that slot is filled.

The "hole" in the squad is Willock's slot. Havverton isn't that person.

It doesn't help that Dykes and Chaor are Injured. I'm not sure either will leave in This window

But almost all the other ins are an upgrade on what we had before. There is no need to lose our sh1t just yet. We are a better run club than before. We have a bloody good manager. Mid table is ours!

I see the online press are talking about Josh Bowler again but for me Liam Millar is better and younger, and left footed.

Never knowingly right.

According to Transfermarkt about £1.8m but it would probably be a lot less. I guess a lot of things hinge on whether Eze moves. Millar really has got the talent to be the left footed playmaker we've been missing since Freeman.

Never knowingly right.

Lassel is convinced we're selling Chair, so that is pretty chilling.
If he does go we really do need two quite big, successful attacking signings, even if one is a loan.

Bare bones.

Well it did just occur to me that Leeds have a Summerville shaped hole to fill...

I guess Hevertton is more of an Adomah replacement then. Along with half the known universe we’ve been linked with a loan move for Palace prospect Rak-Sakyi. Although I’d have thought it unlikely he’ll come here but it does suggest that we’re trying to bring in more attacking players. I’d be amazed if we weren’t! Probably a striker too.

Would be a huge departure, is there a thread where lassel is saying that - agree its chilling as they are usually on the money on this stuff.

I have been kind of wanting Chair to go for a while for his own sake in an odd way, but feel much differently now we are vaguely on the up again in terms of our trajectory.

I do have faith that if there are discussions re: selling Chair taking place that the club will have a number of replacements lined up - but they are players that are going to have to hit the ground running as opposed to the Nordin Kandil on the Wing type rumours we have seen this summer.

Marti sounded as if he genuinely expected Chair to return in his Brighton post-match presser. Could be because he's a good poker player of course.

Weighing in.
The thing I see missing alot in the thread is that last year we recruited for a different style of play (?) and now Marti & Co. have a completely different ethos. The guys that are gone are guys that didnt 'fit' (or wanted out). I think the Achilles heel in the plan is still molding all the pieces. I think Marti tried Willock, Hodge, and others in the role of ball carrier/ link-up specialist and none really worked. Hopefully Varane is that guy.

Miller is predominantly right-footed but unlike many footballers of today, he is also very comfortable and adept in using his left foot. He would be my preferred option, but suspect that there's nothing in the Bowler rumour.

It's not just about replacing who left last season which we haven't done yet it's also about improving the squad as it wasn't very good last season so like for like replacements is not going to see a big improvement

I look at that midfield and attack and think it's still a long way off being good enough

Just sign a striker and let him cook ffs.

Every other team let their players cook, why can't we?

I dunno.

Week by week???

Something smells fishy...

I have a feeling Eze will join Liverpool, freeing up funds for 2/3 new signings but these wont happen until close to the end of the transfer window.

He's got a problem with playing games. 38 last year for Cardiff but only 83 in 5 seasons.

He's also a bit predictable. RH side comes in on left foot.
