No takers yet ? I'd better have another go in the hope of alcohol duty being scrapped in the Budget.
A 1-1 draw I reckon.

Starting to think 56-57 points may be the safety mark this year. Really mad division this year. Apart from Coventry almost anyone could go up down to about 17th.

It would be very unusual if that were the case. Over the last 15 seasons, the highest safety mark was 55 points in 2012/13.

Proof will be in the pudding come March. Worried about Kone and what’s happened there with his fitness. Looks heavier and slower than when he joined.

Côte d'Ivoire have qualified for WC26 I think? He may be motivated and fit by that point.

I could easily see a couple of teams cut adrift on the other hand along with Wednesday - Oxford, Pompey and Swansea chiefly amongst them but saw nothing from Blackburn to suggest they're not going to be in big danger too. Only takes one bad run and things start to look very bleak once you're down there

Kone needs to play in and around the box. He has a good touch, can use skill to create space and get passed the marker, but he isn't going to pull away from players from 40 yards out.

His biggest (and only) real attribute is his fierce shot. When was the last time he had one?

Unless he is in or around the box, his lack of mobility is more of a liability than an advantage.

Don’t buy the “makes space for others” gambit.

He is an instinctive striker, but we need to use him correctly and he needs to lose some bulk.

I've been giving Ben Williams a dig for some while, but here's some credit:

If this late charge fitness strategy really is a thing and we are two points from playoffs in March then we really are cooking as the kids say.

If we could get off the rollercoaster and find consistency the playoff's would be very reachable.

I decided today that I really loathe the pink kit. It's more than dislike. It's more than hate. It's even more than detest. It's pure loathing!!

But a beautiful win. Well done lads!!

We look like clowns in that kit. We still won though.

I thought Varane was fine tonight and did okay against Hull. He's become a bit of a target for some and admittedly his performances earlier in the season weren't great but as some have pointed out, we've won two on the trot with a midfield 2 of Madsen and Varane so they can't be doing too badly. Happy to stick with them both in those positions for now.

My worry with them, and with all of our central midfilelders, is that we have to play them so deep.

They only do okay if we play a deep back four and play our central midfielders deep as well.

That's six lads behind our part of the centre circle.
Even at home.

If we signed good midfielders, if we coached good midfielders, if we said as a club that we believe in midfielders, then we would actually play midfielders. In midfield.

To destroy.
To control.
To create.
To dominate.

That's midfield.
That's the job.

But we can't ask them to do that.
Because they can't.
That's our fault.

With all our midget wingers and 10s, there is one massive advantage: fresh speedy legs brought on for the last 30 mins. Its a very handy tactic/squad/bwnch to have. And Poku still to come back.

I love the sound of midfielders like that and I think Madsen is actually on the way there. We can't afford to buy players with all of those attributes so as you say, it has to be coached. Someone's done some good work on Madsen over the summer so I wouldn't give up on Varane yet and I think Morgan has the potential.

Just back in my hotel room, that was freezing, excellent result, huge save by Nardi, if Smyths volley had gone in the roof would have come off.

A second half with very little quality but I think that was JS going for a win that was begging to be taken and we did so ! Well chuffed with that .
Blackburn were absolute guff, but I thought we showed some real attacking promise in the first half especially.
Burrell could well be rested Saturday as he looked shattered and was pretty poor to be honest .

I thought Saito , Chair and Dembele were very good 1st half without really getting the killer pass or shot right .
But they looked very dangerous.

Mention for Cook and Dunne . Very solid .
Nardi kept us in it with that save . Pleased for him .
But realistically that striker has missed 2 absolute sitters.

Chair once again the best player on the pitch , which in fairness , wasn’t difficult .
Really happy to win the game though and if somehow we do the impossible and win Saturday, then we could be right up there among the better teams in this crazy division.

Gave me a good laugh seeing the usual claim of an unfeasibly large number of points required to stay up so early in the season.

Usual rule of thumb is if you do better than a point per game you'll probably stay up and sure enough, Oxford in 22nd are two behind that - and you have to go all the way up to Blackburn in 18th to find a team on more than a point per game.

Yes, but like managers often say, I try not to get too 'up'. We deserved it tonight, but also made hard work of it, and the issues with the team are still apparent.

Yes, and I was thinking tonight that we just don't have/do goalscoring midfielders any more. If Varane and Madsen get double figures between them this season, I'll be surprised. As it is, our minuscule wingers have to make up the shortfall.

Love Burrell but he needs a rest.

A knackered Burrell would still be quicker than Kone.

It was one of those god awful midweek championship away trips. Glad we got over the line. Great save from Nardi to keep it 0-0!

Managers get a lot of stick when they make the wrong subs, but credit to Stephan for introducing Smyth. Turning out to be quite a good week.

Only slight negative for me is that our Ball retention is so poor for a professional football team. We have to get better at keeping it if we want to progress as a team. (Small steps though ehy?)

On another note, has anyone noticed we always seem to get shafted in these 3 game weeks?

When we played Swansea & then Derby on the Saturday - Derby played at home on the Tuesday night before. We played Southampton on Wednesday night before a trip to Sheff Utd after them playing at home on Tuesday night. We are now heading to Norwich, they played Tuesday at home whilst we have a joyful trip to Blackburn 24 hours later!

Its a joke.
