I cannot believe anybody rates this guy.

He's a total embarrassment under crosses, he's too small and I'm not sure he can even jump.

He is CLEARLY not a viable goalkeeper.

It's a shame, as him aside, we were looking quite good. But you can't win games consistently with a bad goalkeeper - and Walsh is a bad keeper.

Sadly none of our three keepers are good enough and it should have been addressed in the window.

Those stats are pretty telling. I was a bit on the fence but you can’t really argue with what they’re showing. Number 1 priority is a goalie

I think consistency is key for Walsh, his stats are skewed by two really poor games (Coventry and Southampton) where he conceded 12 goals to less than 3 xG, which is roughly -9 of his -9.5.

Look I don’t want to personally attack the guy - it’s just a football thing - but he is a very poor keeper. It’s not about time and experience etc etc it’s just basic innate ability.

He’s got poor reaction speed, very poor diving, poor reach, poor hands, he can’t even really jump. Oh and his feet and distribution is poor.

I’m sorry it’s harsh, I have no personal ill will, but it’s just true.

We’re here to build a team to win football matches. When he plays he costs us points.

Now I giesss it’s somewhat satisfying those (shockingly) stats prove what I have been saying and the point of my original post but honestly you only need use your eyes.

This is not an experience thing. It doesn’t matter how long Walsh plays in goal, and until what age, he will never possess the raw talents needed to be a goalkeeper at this level.

In fact I dont think he’s really a league keeper full stop.

Now if someone disagrees with me then I challenge you to name just one standout or even good attribute he possesses. What is he good at?

"What is he good at?"

I think he's good at:

Set-up
Reflexes
Footwork
Jumping
Catching

Now, whether he'll become consistently good at them is another thing.
And whether he'll come very good or great at them is another thing again.

And I'm not sure those stats prove anything yet.

I’m sorry, for me, we’re simply not watching the same goalkeeper Brian. I think he’s shown to be poor at all of those and that’s just in the last few games.

But I hope I’m wrong.

Stats are pretty damming though and back up what I’m seeing.

Stats mean absolutely nothing - or absolutely anything you want them to mean. As already stated have been skewed by 2 games. And tbh, if you are dismissing Brian’s claims -a person who actually knows what he is talking about when in comes to GK’s, -then there is no point in having a discussion with you, as you are too biased against Walsh to see alternative viewpoints.

Have you not seen him demonstrate those skills, Westy?

He clearly has. We've seen him demonstrate good reflexes, footwork, jumping and catching.

So he has those skills. But what makes a player a good player - right now - is whether they can perform to their abilities consistently.

I don't think it was fair to ask Walsh to do that for this season. Or wise, either.

As for the stats, as I say, I'm not convinced that they're anything other than an unproven screenshot of past behaviour and they're no barometer of future possibilities.

Hard to defend.

Would love to know the truth about how and why Nardi is being ushered out like a racist aunt.

Walsh on 23:02 - Apr 10 with 2928 viewsderbyhoop

I believe any stats on Walsh would be skewed by the Coventry result where, as I recall, it would be hard to put any of them down to the GK. Southampton was another one, but he had a poor night.

If we wanted to send him.on.loan, it needed to be done last season, or earlier. Do it now and, you're effectively, bombing him out. And you can say goodbye to a 23yo keeper.

I agree with Brian.

Walsh is still young and fairly inexperienced - I don't think we should write him off at all, but I also don't think we have helped him.

Nardi should have stayed No1 this season, Walsh out on loan, with Cooper or someone like Hamer as No2. Salamon also out on loan.

I think he has shown promise, more than Madsen did last season and look how he has come through.

I'd probably try and loan him out next season but it's a weird way around - I'm not against him having a go next season but he still won't be the finished article and I'm not sure if people will give him time to develop with us and accept he will make mistakes like you might do with an 18 year old outfielder.

This is how I view him. The problem for me is Nardi has always looked the better GK because of his considerably better shot stopping ability, which these stats also reflect. Nardi's weakness was commanding his box, his unwillingness to come off his line for balls, But when he got a few games last autumn he did show considerable improvement with that, coming out of his penalty area safely too. Yet he was suddenly left out again. I hope Walsh is moved on at the end of the season loaned for the experience he lacks if there are takers. I'd be happy if Nardi stayed and played but I guess it maybe too late for that and we'll have to find a new GK.

I doubt anyone wanted Walsh to start the season as number one - well nobody other than the coaching staff and Andrew Sparkes. I thought it was a prank when Clive suggested he'd heard that was happening in the summer.

But he was made number one, under huge needless pressure, he's no doubt learnt a lot, he's had some good games as well as iffy, is under contract and I presume Cooper will be back too for 26/27. He's 24 and now has a Championship season in him.

He's not being supplanted now unless Cooper looks better in preseason. I feel there are bigger questions to be answered this summer with the squad and this constant hum about him doesn't help anyone.

At worst, we'll have a season a bit like the Lumley/Kelly season: two adequate but not faultless keepers duking it out for a year. At best, one will prove good enough to excel and the other is sold.

They're both 24. We'll know a lot more by time they're 25: and hopefully they'll make the club some money.

Walsh is by no means the finished article - as noted earlier in this thread he’s sub-prime age for a goalie. I really don’t think a new goalie is the priority this summer.

To bin him off after short glimpses is unnecessary, short sighted and counter to the career development model were cultivating which has recently attracted some prime assets to the club: “come to QPR and we’ll give you ten games to prove yourself or you’re out on your ear” doesn’t really work.

As stated above we will have Cooper and Walsh and next season will be a defining season for both of their development - hopefully with less pressure on the pitch if we can cut out some of the midfield / defensive lapses.

A goalie is our number one priority this summer. Had we had a better keeper than Walsh this season we would be top 6 comfortably. I would release Hamer and sell both Cooper and Walsh. Gk position needs a total reset.

Chill out Myke. We're allowed to disagree without getting all shrill about it.

I'm allowed to have a different opinion to Brian. I massively respect his take, there is zero ill will between us, but I have never seen Walsh be good at the skills mentioned.

A few lucky leap and hope star fish saves here and there but nothing more.

I think he's a very poor shot stopper. Very poor on crosses. Very poor with his hands. Poor with his feet. Just a bad keeper

It's not a vendetta, it's what I've observed and it's what I think. Sorry.

If Walsh is the number one goal keeper next season, it will cost us another season.

Goalkeeper will never be the position to develop players. Let other football clubs to do this charity. Unlike other positions, any mistake made by the goalkeeper is fatal and costs you valuable points.

A new goalie is the top priority for next season if QPR want to push for the playoffs. Walsh in goal will definitely costs us 15+ points and the playoff chances.

Not even tongue in cheek??!?!

Today summed up why he's miles away from cutting it at this level.
In a rubber so dead even my dog wouldn't play with it he was a bag of nerves, had no confidence and didn't command anything.

That spill above his head would've been the most Walsh like of goals to conceede.
Should've been lobbed from 40 yards after presenting them with the ball but fella got execution all wrong.
A proper dolly effort parried back to a Brizzle striker causing himself more emergency action.
And that's just the first half.

Not his worst game as nothing resulted in a goal but when you've got your own players putting their heads in the hands after you clatter one of your own players and dolly a punch back to the opposition then you know you've got an issue going on.

He might make a GK sometime in the future but if he's Number 1 next season then pull up your lower mid table to flirting with the bottom six chair and light your pipe.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Walsh on 16:19 - Apr 11 with 1681 viewsHarbour

Up and down performance today think we got a bit lucky with some of the punches and dropping the ball. Difficult to know if he will improve or if he has hit his ceiling. Don’t want to put a downer on him hope he does improve but if no noticeable improvement a loan spell might be the best for him.

Honest question as I was too young to remember.

Was David Seaman the complete goalie when he arrived in 1986? Genuine question and by no means making comparisons?

Jan Stejskal certainly needed ‘developing’ (certainly communication) before re-introducing.
