He's 22, not 23 until September. He's played 70 pro games already despite a bad injury, 30+ games this season in several positions and is proving himself a match winner in a largely poor, injury-riddled team in his first full Championship season.
Whatever the deficiencies of the squad-building, technically skilled characters in their very early 20s such as Vale, Kone, Edwards, Mbengue, Morgan definitely are its silver lining. All really good signings. Find the nit-picking of these particular young players really odd. | | | |

Not sure the technically skilled and Mbengue and Kone fit into the same sentence. Both are technically deficient, it’s their biggest weakness. But general point is taken.
As for Vale, bigger challenge is his position. Doesn’t seem to have one. Definitely talented, but in a fully fit squad, he doesn’t play for me, as there are better players in all the positions he plays. | | | |

Totally agree Brian. If I was any good at football, I could play for England, Northern Ireland or the ROI. I would only play for England, the country of my birth and where have lived the vast amount of my life. Grew up in NW London with a lot of "Plastic Paddy's"...never wanted to join them. Luckily Mum and Dad, although proud Irish Catholics, let us choose our nationality...as they weren't really into all Irish cultural stuff... especially Dad. And this a man who had to take his new wife to England to get away from the sectarian bollocks in Co Tyrone. I always say if anyone asks me now I am living in Northern Ireland, that my body belongs to the island of Ireland, but my heart and mind will always belong to England. | | | |

I agree with that except for over 18. I still think switching if you haven't played in a full international you should be allowed to switch.
It's a disgrace that some players were selected for a friendly or U21s and then discarded meaning the end of their international careers. As happened to Gary Bannister .
As for his performances, he was very good at Leicester and involved in all 3 goals. Of course, the stupid assist rules, means he doesn't get credit for forcing the own goal.
If only he can produce that performance more frequently. All players have off days but a lot of QPR players seem to have some 'on' days mixed in with mediocre and bad days. [Post edited 15 Mar 11:06]

We only get 50% of his sale price as Chelsea put that in the contract when we signed him for £400K only, and of course, he was injured.
All clubs sometimes sign off injured players, except QPR, which actually signs injured players. We are the exception that proves the rule.

There’s a difference between signing players like Vale with a one off injury and signing players like JCS with a history of injuries.
Vale is only 22: he’s inconsistent but has shown plenty of potential. His goal yesterday was excellent. |  | | |

I think Ben Nelson deserves the goal and assist for that monstrosity though I’d also be fuming at the goalkeeper if he’s not given a big shout which given his performance in general was probably the case. Will be a long time until we see an opposition goalkeeper and centre-halves be that poor again. | | | |

I’ve lived most of my life in London / Watford and was born in west London in the mid 60s.
However I spent my formative years in Ireland (1970-1987)
I’ve got an Irish accent and consider myself Irish but still had to get my passport through my parents birth certificates.
I’m not sure how Vale qualifies to play for Ireland but I wish him
the best .
Agree with people on here that if played at underage level for a country then you that’s the way it should stay .

Having grown up a with a few "plastic paddies" as you put it, I understand and respect your personal stance. However, in this instance, you have to see it from Harvey's perspective. He has zero chance of representing England at senior level but every chance of breaking into the ROI squad if he keeps developing. You too may have had a change of heart had you become a Championship level professional footballer. [Post edited 15 Mar 14:50]
