I think there's a player there, especially if he's given regular game time. Yesterday in the midfield, thought he played really well, albeit that he still has a wayward pass in him.
However, about 69 mins in, he played a ball forward to the rampaging Mbengue that was Wilkinsesque. Utterly sublime, perfect pace and placement between two of their players, that Mbengue didn't have to break stride.
I think he's only 19 and next season, a good loan would see that kid blossom. Playing all over the place in fits and starts is not what he needs, playing regularly in midfield will.

The thing I like about Morgan is that he mostly always tries to find a forward pass, which is by its nature more risky and will lead to his stats looking worse than the likes of Varane who in recent weeks especially has been playing with little confidence and keeps going for a safe option that offers nothing in terms of getting us up the pitch.
I saw some criticism yesterday of Varane coming off the bench, but actually I thought it was a good move when players were tiring and we had a 2 goal lead - he's generally decent at winning the ball and keeping posession (largely by passing backwards...) and we had the 2 goal cushion to make it work. Also got himself a "decent" yellow to prevent a breakaway.
His big problem this year has been in providing the positive play we need when a game is level or we're behind and chasing. |
It’s been a long time since I’ve lost it at a player quite as much as I did with Varane when he spent about three working days standing on the ball in our box and just about managed to only give away a corner. For some reason he has become the culture war player between the Twitter kids and the moany old gits and I kind of see both points of view but I just can’t warm to him. |  | | |

I agree. I think he's the first genuine number 8 prospect we've had in a very long time. I said last season that there are glimpses of a 'potential' Gerry Francis type player in his style of play. |  |

What some people forget, is the guy is still a teenager.
We had Iroegbaenum and Jack Clarke at similar ages, who were similar in age and did not play as often and were frankly less in the game than Kieran. And both have kicked on in their careers.
So, there is definitely a talent to be nurtured in Morgan.
Two or three more seasons and he has potential to keep improving, be a key player for us and eventually sell for decent money. |  |

I really see the potential with Morgan. Bar Madsen, I think he's the best passer of the ball we have. He does always have a loose one in him, though, which makes me nervous. That's more to do with him playing forward rather than sideways and backwards like Varane, Field, Hayden, etc.
Would like to see him bulk up a bit and get a good loan in as he gets caught and shrugged off the ball a lot when his decision making is a bit too slow, it will all come with experience. | | | |

We were singing songs about going sideways and backwards at 1-0 down on Saturday. Meanwhile Morgan gets questioned for giving the ball away with forward passes. It's paradoxical. If you want to go forwards you are going to give the ball away more often.
We've had less than a handful of true central midfielders with this natural instinct over the last 10 years. We're just not used to seeing it frankly.
He needs time and minutes but I hope to God his tendency to actually try to move us up the pitch is encouraged and nurtured rather than coached out of him. |  | | |

I think Morgan's 1st 3 passes all went to an opponent, then he was caught the wrong side of an attacker and gave away a free kick in a dangerous position, all in the 1st 5 minutes. Then he seemed to disappear. Did get a bit better later on and made that one good pass. Not that impressed with him to be honest.
Thought Vale who probably had his best game yet for us, Edwards who probably had his best game since his return in his best position, and Smyth who never gave up on that run and shot that won the corner we got our 3rd goal from, were our best players. Dunne, RND and Mbengue did ok. |

He was streets ahead of the rest of the EDS when he played in that final last season. Has the legs for the Championship, and almost the physicality (he’ll get there), he gets in the box and he tries to play forward.
We have nothing really to play for now. Play the lad, every week. He can only benefit from the game time, as can we in the long term.
The same logic can be applied to Kolli.
These two are the young lads with potential to really kick on at this level and be worth a fair bit. They both have weaknesses and both mistakes. Of course, they will. Look at their age and number of games played. The more they play the better they should get. And then we have two proper players on our hands in a year or two who cost us nothing and, because they will still be U23, could be sold for a lot money. Everyone else is that year or three older, and cost us a load of money.
That is what proper player development and a sustainable business model for a football club is about.

I wasn't overly impressed with him yesterday. For someone who had so much energy and could run for days when he broke into the side last season, I thought he looked very heavy legged and tired quickly. Few times, Leicester players just skipped passed him. He has a tendency to take to long to on the ball and get caught out. I do believe though, that in time he could be a good player. Agree with most of this particularly the reference to last season. I have been critical of Morgan this season when he has had to play right back because he cannot defend properly in that position, but that is the managers fault for playing him there.
The big positive I saw on Saturday was his bravery in playing the harder forward passes instead of the easy option that Hayden/Varane constantly do in playing sideways and backwards.
I’m sure most of us agree that a Div 1 loan would of left us a good prospect pushing for a regular start next season but I’m sure there was a financial reason this didn’t happen. | | | |
