New FFP rules for Championship from next season 12:37 - May 15 with 14187 viewsNorthernr

Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) rules for next season. SCR will cap spending at 85% of revenue and replace PSR . 20/24 clubs voted in favour of it today.

The wealthy clubs, and because they’ll be a glut of supply, they’ll be able to buy at lower prices than usual.

I am surprised 20/24 clubs in this league voted for this. Blind optimism in their own competence, thinking they can outdo their neighbours?

But there aren't enough of those "wealthy" clubs to make this work and they'd only be interested in buying the top 10 players in the league, none of which play for us.

There seems to be no logic whatsoever to any more than 25% of the membership voting yes here. As Brian says, let's hear how we voted and why.

Can we go out yet?

The £10m per year is actually £33m over 3 years with a maximum of £15m in any one year. I actually think it’s much more manageable for the club. You also have a 30% “buffer” on top of that and club pays a fine. That fine gets put into a pot and paid to the other clubs in the league. After that it’s points deduction. I quite like it.

Does this mean that keeping within the restrictions of PSR for the last two seasons has been a waste of time?

So, if this only relates to player and manager costs, are there limits on other staffing costs and general capital expenditure? Would any training ground/stadium developments be exempt?

I agree, Brian, but don't expect that to happen. Maybe at the next Fans Forum a question will be taken on this but even then, would Nourry give a straightforward answer?

I've been thinking about your question this evening dmm, and all I can answer is that they certainly should engage openly, honestly and should want those conversations with their members. Then we all should learn together. The free benefit is that we would all feel closer, and be closer.

But, do I expect it to happen, to answer your question?
No, but there's always hope.

When you listen to the new Fan Sites meeting, you'll hear Nourry comment on this issue. In brief, he's noncommittal, giving potential good and bad outcomes to this change.

Sounds like an email to Paul M saying the fan base wants to know more details on n how the club voted and potential impacts on QPR

Not only should the club tell us which way we (they) voted, but there should be an interview with club officials explaining what the rules are and what this means for our club.

This is a huge issue, and they should explain it with clarity and decency to the members and supporters.

Think the new rules would have gained approval if 16/24 voted in favour. As it was 20/24 in favour, whether we did or didn’t wouldn’t make any difference to the outcome.

I don’t think it will adversely affect us any more than the present system. If you’ve got a bigger ground you likely earn greater income which invariably goes on player salaries, that happens now.
The only difference is instead of us all averaging 100% salaries to income, it now has to be 85% of salaries to income, an element of sanity at last.

As a club we made a long term decision to stand still, 40 years and counting. Clubs across the country have made a concerted effort to invest in their infrastructure, we chose not to.

That’s the only story here.

Thanks Steve,

Initial thoughts:

"Think the new rules would have gained approval if 16/24 voted in favour. As it was 20/24 in favour, whether we did or didn’t wouldn’t make any difference to the outcome."

I'd like to know how we voted, how we argued, and why on both.

"I don’t think it will adversely affect us any more than the present system. If you’ve got a bigger ground you likely earn greater income which invariably goes on player salaries, that happens now.

You may be right. I don't have enough info. I think the club should talk to us about that.

"As a club we made a long term decision to stand still, 40 years and counting. Clubs across the country have made a concerted effort to invest in their infrastructure, we chose not to."

Not sure what you mean here, but I think I'm with you.

"That’s the only story here."

I don't know what the story is, sorry, let alone if there's more than one.

Surely it would be in the interest of all clubs to stop paying agents now? Still baffles me how the current situation arose. Nothing wrong with a player EMPLOYING an agent but they need to pay and fund the shyster too.

Apologies for being dumb but can anyone explain the difference in how this works v FFP? It doesn't sound like this improves things for us (or any other club)?

I might be wrong, but I think that instead of being able to lose £39m (or whatever the figure is now), over a rolling 3 year period, every season the cost of the first team squad must be less than 85% of the clubs income.

I'm far from sure of what constitutes the cost of the squad though.

Where I've got to at the moment is

Squad Costs, which are the total of
Player related expenditure
Manager (Head Coach) related expenditure
Amortisation
and agents fees
Less non-established U21 player wages

must not exceed

85% of the total of
football income
profit on non-football income
3 year average of profit on player trading

plus allowable equity injection (£33m over 3 seasons, no more than £15m in any one season)

The official regulations are not available yet so don't take this as gospel.

I thought the Head Coach cost is included , I wonder how compensation is treated if he is sacked ? Might make clubs think twice before making a change

So quickly reading that is the important bit for us the allowable equity injection, which means the owners (Ruben) can input his own money of £33 million over 3 years and it counts towards the calculation.
IF that's the case it seems an improvement for the man who is funding us at £20 million per season already, but it begs the question will that £33 million be enough to keep us within the guidelines.

I have a question on the allowable equity injection.

Am I right in thinking our owners currently cough up about £2m a month to cover our losses that is converted into equity? If so, won't we breach the maximum £15m equity injection per season rule by quite a lot?

The owners have invested, in round terms, £73m in the last 3 seasons we have seen the accounts for. However this money has also been spent on the training facility, paying off some loans and the club's bank balance has increased significantly.

There is a table showing investment and usage in here.
