| Celar €1.5 million on 11:58 - Jul 17 by DannytheR | Agreed on Morrison. Like the ongoing injury situation, it feels like another thing a club in our position can't really afford is a lot of players who seem like they're actively regressing. It isn't a problem across the board – Burrell, Smyth and Madsen all got better last year, in some cases dramatically. But again, before you even get to how we're doing on the pitch, the margins are surely too tight financially for us to have people regularly losing all form and value. Morgan too hasn't progressed nearly as much as you'd like, Saito looks a shadow of the player we've seen he can be, and Dembele and JCS both look like write-offs. I've depressed myself now. I know. It’s a mystery. I don’t know what the club does in terms of psychological support. - and I don’t mean just cheerleading, will to win stuff, I mean working out what is going on psychologically with certain players. Like losing their confidence, things going on at home, being homesick etc. Not really traditional sports psychology but just someone to chat to. Of course some footballers might not avail themselves of it because of macho beliefs but I’m sure it would pay off. You wouldn’t need a top level sports psychologist just a normal counsellor/psychotherapist type. Whenever I’ve asked about psychological support at the club it’s always been related to the youth team and someone from the coaching team that has done a course. But I think it would be a small outlay and could make a big difference. | | | |

In fairness to Hunter his cynicism is behind some previous form, such as the ‘€500k deal’ the club had Dave Mc tout for Michael Frey which in reality amounted to Ruben’s other club taking over his contract from QPR….
| Celar €1.5 million on 12:16 - Jul 17 with 2770 views | derbyhoop | Look, given Celar's contribution of 2 goals in 24 appearances for us, plus a spectacularly poor loan last season, getting any money for him must be considered a plus. It doesn't really matter if we got a transfer fee or just got his wages off our books. If the latter then there may be some scope to pay someone we want, but if the former it's a real boost to available funds. On top of Field and Cooper fees. | |

I've always assumed that would be part of Kevin Betsy's gig, given he's meant to be in charge of individual development. Not necessarily a dig at him either - he comes over well in interviews, and has what seems like a real handle on an important role. But at the same time, as you say - it ain't actually working.

| Celar €1.5 million on 11:27 - Jul 17 by OakR | Agreed. You'd assume he was on decent wages as well, and the move is best for all parties. Will be amazed if we got anything up front for him, but let's see. Assume we have some sell on fee, or maybe something contingent on performance etc. His signing hasn't worked out, so good we have been able to move him on for us, and him. Woud have been good to see how he woud have performed for a few months if he hadn't got injured, but he did and that basically ended it for him here. Good transfers for us so far this window. |
Christ, I hope we're not relying on performance-based bonuses!

Well, yeah. Are we really having a serious conversation about what Fabrizio fckn Romano said? The guy's a hustler and a charlatan. The club reports an undisclosed fee and WLS say no more than that. So unless you think they're straight out lying, we got a fee, but that doesn't mean much if it's undisclosed. It could be €10k for all we know. Most likely it's whatever a club like Basel would pay for a striker with a good record in their league. Who knows? With attendances of 30,000, they're a bigger club than QPR, but we were desperate to get shot, so what sounds reasonable? €500k? Did we pay up some of Celar's contract to sweeten the deal? Maybe, but there's no evidence for that, there never is. Bottom line, I'm sure these deals are much simpler than all the lurid chicanery imagined.

I’m with you on this one, we will never know if he could have made it. I was at the home game after Cardiff and he looked like a new player before realising he had the same hammy as everyone else. Wish him well, mind you I do believe in body language and his was up there with the worst. A bit of usual cynicism on this thread but no one can deny this is the best outcome. | Celar €1.5 million on 11:05 - Jul 17 by nix | I think it’s brilliant news just not to be paying his salary any more. Anything else is just a bonus. How many players have we had in the past sitting on big salaries for years where we ended up paying them to do nothing. It was clearly a big mistake to sign him in the first place but to mitigate your losses is vital. I was seriously worried we’d have him stinking out the training ground for the next couple of seasons. Hopefully this will free up some wages at least to cover e.g. the loan in of the goalkeeper. |
What if we've agreed a free transfer plus a contribution in his ongoing wages for two years and it's STILL a deal worth £1.5 to QPR?!?! I'm good with it even if it is that. Always said in the past -- to be positive -- if you can shift out Player X who is on £3k a week and never going to play for you again but the recieving club will only pay £1k a week then focus on the £52k saving now and not the £104k you're spunking. I actually think Celar being around the squad would be disruptive as well so binning him off is great. He doesn't strike me as a man without issues and attitude. Still no denying the club spin IMHO

I don’t know how many times I can say that this is good news and a good for the club as it should enable us to sign a new player on a free who can be a starter/in the first team squad. I just do not believe it’s a £1.5m fee plus his wages off the book. The accounts, in about 18 months, will give us a very good indication. I’d wager very strongly it’s just his salary off the books. BUT THAT IS A GOOD THING. We will still need to sell for some serious money in the next 10 months though.
| Celar €1.5 million on 13:07 - Jul 17 with 2403 views | Stainrod | Did QPR traditionally always release the amount they paid or received in transfer fees? Amounts were mentioned in the media, but from memory our official site would quite often say "for an undisclosed fee". I get the widespread cynicism because in the social media age some fans (rightly or wrongly) feel they have a right to be informed about absolutely everything, whereas Nourry is a bit of a control freak about information. But the criticism is 100% guesswork, then recycled as fact. It is very old news that buying Celar was a disaster (worse than Conor Washington or Lyndon Dykes by a distance, and that's saying something). I am glad the vast majority of fans on here are celebrating the off-loading of this white elephant as unqualified good news. There's more dead wood to be cut out still but hopefully these departures will allow us to replace peripheral players for the one missing pieces of the first team jigsaw. | | | |

| Celar €1.5 million on 10:57 - Jul 17 by QPR_Jim | Wasn't those other deals leaked with similar numbers and then when it came to the accounts it turned out to be much less? I'm with those that are amazed if we got anything for him after his season here then what sounded like a poor season on loan. I'm not sure who it benefits to have these numbers out there, does it benefit QPR to look like we're flush with money from player sales? We're told letting contract lengths be known is giving away a competitive advantage, but for some reason inflated values for transfers seem to be routinely leaked. |
Yes, I believe you're right about the fees received for the players mentioned, although I don't recall what the differences were between reported and actual fees that those who analysed the accounts quoted. My point was really about Nourry moving those players on, though it should be said Celar and Frey were signed after he was made CEO. They needed to go and he at least achieved that. Nourry now needs to continue to shift players out such as Santos, Larkeche, Esquerdinha and Dixon-Bonner.

| Celar €1.5 million on 11:49 - Jul 17 by nix | Yes he’s the most frustrating player. He really looked like he was really progressing after the first season. Morrison also looked like a good transfer and then suddenly seemed like he’d forgotten how to play football over the summer. It’s mystifying how that happens. Whereas Madsen travelled in completely the opposite direction. I have to wonder if it’s partly a mental approach thing (I don’t mean poor mental health by the way I mean how you approach your development). Madsen quite clearly was determined to put every effort in to crack his issues on the pitch. |
with varanne it hasnt been a secret for other a year now he wants out , i was told in april last year he would be gone come august , so maybe the lose of form is that he just dont want to be at the club , in england any other reason , club supposely turned down 5 million for hi in jan and guessing a similar bid this summer , rumour was we was holding out for ten illion which is never gonna happen esp on last seasons form .

Santos and EDB I'll agree with you. Larkeche and Esqerdinha are more questionable. We will need cover for our Boy. So, unless Adjetey-Brew has jumped ahead, well probably need 1 of them.

| Celar €1.5 million on 13:38 - Jul 17 with 2210 views | Stainrod | Genuine question: do the following year accounts even show the full picture? Player x departs for an undisclosed fee, in the following year's accounts we see that was y amount (less than reported in the media at the time of the transfer). But most transfers contain add-ons, eg when the player hits 50 games or whatever. He might not have hit those milestones in the first year, but potentially could in his second. It also cuts the other way - maybe some of those rumoured fees we paid for this or that player were actually considerably less up front but only hit that headline amount based on appearances etc. I mean it passes an afternoon speculating on a message board but as long as we all realise that is probably all anyone is doing on here. | | | |

I'm hoping Dave Mc was right when he said the club was considering signing two LBs. I don't think Larkeche or Esqerdinha can cut it, even as cover, but as you say we will need to retain one if we don't. Adjetey-Brew only broke through to the DS from the 18s last season. He's promising, but I don't think he's at all ready for another step up.

I thought that £5m thing had pretty much been debunked? A while ago now but could have been WLS who revealed that they wanted a loan and the fee was conditional upon the buying club getting promoted. That's right Stainrod, was a loan with a buy option upon getting promoted, St Ettienne didn't get promoted by the way so it was not a favourable deal whatsoever. Also along with the "It's been no secret Varane has been demanding out for a year", seems like whispers from a mate are just being told as facts now. Try watching Varane belt out Silver Lining at the end of each game, jumping into the stands with fans and tell me that's a guy sulking and wanting to get back home. Cooper and Field are players that recently wanted to move on and the club duly obliges. You can think anything about the hierarchy but I do think it's clear that the selling policy and ability to move on players has improved. That will ultimately be judged on an impending "big sale", but the lack of "hanger ons" is great both financially and for the morale around the club.

The stroies at the time was the club was holding out for a bid closer to ten miliion which is why it was turned down as for the varanne last summer was told by somebody last april that he would be amazed if he was still here last season , thats was before the game from somebody at the club at the time.

the trick of what we are doing is sell when the player is at his peak , second half of his first season was prob his peak to be honest, last season he regressed into the player who we brought in , have we missed the boat who knows next few weeks will be intresting thats for sure , see how we starts the season the swesish kid seems to be able to do all the thing we wanted varanne to do with easy , and yes its not great oppostion i know but he played very well alongside madson yesterday in the first half
