but a game of two halves..
towards the end of the first half could have been 3-0 to boro.
second half , only in my eyes we slaughted them....

1-1 would have been a fair result. i'd have been happy with that.

Poll: how many games this season....home/away.

Completely agree, definitely a game of two half’s! And deserved a point!

Spoke to a couple of Borough fans on the way out, they said they were lucky with a win in the end and couldn’t believe the improvement of us! They thought we looked a good side in the second half!

I think Boro just about deserved that today. We’re definitely on the up but my two observations so far are that we are not making enough really good chances and that there is far too much coming into our box from the wings.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

I am gutted because we have lost four consecutive home games to Middlesbrough. Such things never used to happen pre big money where it didn't matter whether you were a big club or small club. You never had the disparity where one team was worth ÂŁ50 million and the other side five grand. I watched Falkirk totally outplay Rangers midweek in the second half but Rangers still got the winner late on. That extended Falkirk's record to one win in the last 46 matches against Rangers. They lose to them when they play rubbish and lose to them when they play well. I am getting that feeling whenever we play Boro these days...The principal difference today was they had Lankshear and we had Kone then Burrell up front.

Which brings me onto my biggest worry about us and that is goalscoring at home. Four games at Loftus Road and only Burrell has scored in just the one game. If Millwall hadn't scored for us we would have drawn a blank in three of the four games. Since our failure to score against Bolton, they have conceded 7 goals in two away games. Even our old mate Mr Dykes got a brace today. Then you have Stoke, made a bad start to the season yet today they won 4-0. We have been playing better than them but we can't win 4-0.

I am cerrain we won't be in any relegation scrap this season but I do fear our goalscoring will be a problem and that could be where we scupper ourselves trying to get into the top 8.

I see Wrexham are live again. It feels like they want to show all their games live. Are they the new Leeds? Still things could be worse, I could support a team who lose 4-0 at home to Oxford...

But we are creating chances at home. So, I’m sure we will score more at home. Corners are an issue still though. We had 16 and couldn’t score, but reckon 160 and we still wouldn’t.

Agree about too much coming in from the wings. I think is because the full backs are playing so narrow it like having four CBs. Smyth was left to mark their right winger. As against Cardiff, the full backs are so far away from the winger that the winger has time to bring the ball down and cross before we get near them

To be fair they were playing wingbacks.

I thought it was pretty even first half until Chair got injured and that knocked us back quite a bit. Smyth had a very poor half, neither attacking their full back or defending against him and the guy was getting acres of space. Where Chair would normally drop back into midfield Saito was not doing this well and they were getting a lot of space in the 10. in front of our defence and most of their chances came from this or long balls.

Kone who has laboured all season went down and then tried to continue but he could not push of that leg at all. This injury made us better and Burrell was on fire when he came on. Felt if we could get through to half time at 1 we would have half a chance. Second half we went up a gear and I think we showed we could match them and for the first time we started to control the midfield and even more so once Madsen and Kamara came on.

I think we were desperately unlucky in the end.

However, until Madsen came on the set pieces were terrible. Vale was taking really good whipped set pieces last season I dont know where they have gone but the delivery from Vale and Saito were woeful. Our weakness today was very much with the wingers, we really need the 8/10 Vale not the 4/10 vale. Smyth much better second half was very poor first half. Poku needs to believe in himself a bit. Saito in the 10 role (and appreciate if it had been 20 minutes later in the first half Madsen would have come on and Vale would have gone to 10) meant we rarely had more than 1 in the box for any cross anyway.

Worse than the new Leeds. At least Leeds fans have watched the games for many years, very few "Wrexham fans" had even heard of the club 10 years ago, but they do have very good Netflix subscriptions and will pay the money so... Look who's on tv again

I agree. For me it was most noticeable with Cirkin who never seemed close enough to his winger until he was inside our box. I understand why teams play in a narrow shape when defending, but ceding space in advanced areas is the big downside.

Seen alot of Boro posts and social media praising us on our second half performance and stating how pleased they were just holding on. Also stating we were the best side they have faced this season (2nd half).

Smells like a trout farm in here

Echo what others have said re second half. Spoke to Boro fans in the Hawthorn after the game - they said they could not believe the team’s improvement since we last played them. Annoying to lose, but good to hear that others think we are on the right track.

We don’t double up well defending. If Cirkin or Mbengue jump in and miss, the opposition are clean through, hence they tend to sit off.

Again, Saito, Poku or Smyth accentuates the problem.

Because we are a team of tiny midgets…Chair, Poku, Smyth, Saito, Lamptey. Not one of our corners troubled Boro. Most didn’t beat the first man.

Scooters, Tunes, Trainers and QPR.

The three of them were v poor yesterday. Smyth gets a pass because he generally does deliver but not convinced by Saito or Poku. They offered nothing at all.

Up to yesterday - We had the record of most shots on target since the start of the season. To be fair, players can do no more than be on target. Unfortunately either a keeper has made a great save or they have been cleared off the line.

How the keeper saved that flick on from Burrell yesterday is beyond me... 99/100 that would have gone in

I do think we have a huge problem with corners though and to a degree free kicks as well

Good analysis.

I am actually as positive as I can remember feeling after a defeat, so that has to be a good sign.

The concern is second half we had the majority of the play and we couldn’t break Boro down (familiar problem). Yes we created some chances but when a team sits deep we end up playing in front of them, passing from side to side. Only Lamptey when he came on had the speed and vision to break defensive lines.

Incidentally re Saito, actually think he is better centrally but didn’t do quite enough to support Burrell who lacked an aerial, muscular presence alongside him

I was forced to watch this on my phone on holiday, instead of among the learned brethren of T Block. But what I came away with was: we can compete this season. 19 times out of 20 Vale's shot goes in - Andy Sinton couldn't get his head round it and he's played at the highest level.

Yes there were moments when Borough could've gone 2 up, but they didn't. Great save by Charles, and th break away for Burrell I thought showed both a part of his game to keep developing, and some tiredness so soon after a very hard working game 3 days ago. To have started him again yesterday would've been daft.

Kone is going through a bad patch - he looked flat footed but there is a middle ground between not playing him because he's injured, and playing him because he needs game time to get fit and sharp again. Something is going on with him but the idea of not backing him is for the weak minded and characterless. Knock yourselves out you mouthy fcuks.

In summary, that performance yesterday was of a team comfortably challenging for the playoffs, no problems at all with that.

Not disagreeing re Saito but I do think he’s showing glimpses of his form of two seasons ago. He was getting stuck in a couple of times physically instead of backing off and he’s taking on defenders more. A couple of goals/assists would do him the world of good.

Yes am certainly not laying into koki, I like him plus it’s noticeable a lot of opponents single him out as a threat. Think yesterday it was more that him, Poku, Smyth and Vale were all trying to do similar things and at a similar level. The Vale shot aside we lacked that spark of magic that we prob needed against such a good side. With a fully fit and firing centre forward we might have got something. Lanakcher was a constant nuisance at the other end, tho’ brilliantly marshalled by Dunne. But we have to be patient (I realise am preaching to the converted with you Nix): Boro can spend £10m on a striker from Spurs. We have way more options than last year but we just aren’t at that level yet, hence think a few fans have been pretty harsh in their assessments on yesterday

Nice thread.

I did not think this was a game of two halves though; we were ok in the first 45, they were slightly better. When we upped the pace in the second, they were unable to cope with our movement. We deserved a draw, at least.

Someone mentioned Wrexham fans, tend to agree. The area has been a hotbed of Liverpool for as long as I've been around, the only time the town supported the home team is when they played Chester, which might never happen again.

Poll: Thank God The Seaons Over.

My thoughts exactly. We needed another striker before the window, as it is clear Kone is either playing with an injury...or just not as good as we hoped. Need to get a Prem loan in - could be the difference this season.

Sorry to break the rose tinted bubble but 'Boro were the better team and deserved the victory.

They bossed the first half and could've been 2 or 3 nil up at half time. QPR improved in the second half without really creating clear cut chances, Vale's shot against the post notwithstanding.

'Boro had 3 one-on-ones, 2 coming from simple balls over the top and the third from a suicidal pass by M'Bengue. They could, and should, have won by more.

That being said, we have made progress and the gap between the teams is closer than last season.

We can't do that until January.

We could sign a free agent providing we have left a space in the named 25 man squad though.
