Having watched Alfie Lloyd play a couple of times for Eastleigh and then just seeing how happy he is every time he’s interviewed, I really liked hearing what Jimmy Dunne said about him. I got impression before that Alfie wasn’t really in their plans but it sounds like he came back with such a fantastic attitude that they couldn’t ignore him. Can’t remember exact words but basically would doing anything and everything to get a chance to be in that squad. Sounds like the same with Adamson. Exactly the type of players we want for a long season. The belittling of Lloyds ability by some is ridiculous and very unfair. The lad does have talent. He needs to improve some areas but you can be sure he will bust a gut to do that.

It’s not really much of a stretch to see that Stephan was talking about Kolli largely. Because he actually said last season that he knew what he needed to do in training if he wanted to be picked on Saturdays. It just seems like he hasn’t listened and he hasn’t learned.

People are comparing Kone and Kolli but really it’s different scenarios whether Kone came back unfit or injured himself in pre-season. Kone has played for a number of seasons week in week out in non-League and League One men’s football. Kolli has largely played DS football. Kone carried the line pretty much single handed for weeks last season. Kolli came on for some excellent sub appearances and a few more disappointing starts. He showed he’s got some holes in his game that need addressing. So has Kone but if he’s working hard in training to address them and Kolli isn’t then it won’t be viewed in the same way. Kolli’s gaps for me affect the whole team in terms of not pressing /defending well and not passing when that would the better option. Kone’s are less disadvantageous to the team: he works really hard in pressing and defends in our box well in corners and set pieces. He’s also very generous in passing to teammates when in better positions unlike Kolli who’s the opposite which again affects the whole team not just his own performance.

In short Kone’s going to get more of a free pass than Kolli and quite rightly so. They must be tearing their hair out if they’re doing their best to get a good loan for him to get some consistent first team football and he refuses to go out on loan even for a few months. It shows an extreme level of arrogance at his stage of his career. Even Sam Field went out on loan to get time on the pitch and he’s got a lot more of a proven record than Kolli.

Some players can muck about and get away with it because of their supreme talent and past record. Much less so if you’re just out of the DS or have holes in your game. There’s a reason Ravel Morrison, Lee Sharpe, Taylor Richards never reached their potential and it wasn’t lack of talent.

Looking at Alfie Lloyd v Kolli is also a big difference. Alfie doesn’t have the same raw technique undoubtedly. But he’s got a great attitude and works really hard on the pitch whether it’s five minutes for Lincoln or a whole match for QPR. He is humble enough to pass when it’s the better option. If he starts you know he’ll work hard to win the ball back.

Years ago I knew someone who was lucky enough to get in the DS. Nice lad but thought he had made it. Once told one of the first team to F Off. He thought it was funny but really it was always going to be bad news. He left the club and got a few gigs in lower leagues but always got moved on quickly: attitude.

If you’re Ronaldo you can get away with being an arse but even he worked really hard in training. It’s very sad and I think it’s all the people around him that are advising him badly but I don’t think it’ll happen for him at QPR. Todd Kane learnt that no one is bigger than the club and where is he now?

I still think he could pull it round if he started to work hard in training and listen to those with a lot more experience. Stephan is known to work with young talents so it’s a real opportunity for Kolli. I’m afraid though people around him have told him he can demand what he wants and that isn’t going to help him unfortunately.

This ,I seriously hope, do end the Kolli debate. Here, now and in the future.

My two pennies' worth on Kolli and last night is simply that we haven't directly heard Kolli's side of this interminable saga and it's likely we never will.

Nourry and Stephan's views are certainly believable, but as the old truism goes, there are two sides to every story.

Tbh, I'm not sure how Kolli's opinion of events would help (other than being interesting). It's in the club's interest to have a motivated, fit and firing Kolli on their books to play in the team or to sell - it makes no sense to scapegoat him without foundation.

Really good fans forum, best for some time, all 3 communicated really well and am sure helped the club and fan relationship, would like to see see these more often.

CN has come in for criticism previously but not sure what else he could have done or said tonight, straight answers to all questions and didn’t dodge the tricky subjects such as Kolli.

There is a big difference between doing what the manager demands in terms of running hard, working your nuts off for the team, pressing relentlessly , versus having an attitude problem.

Very good fans forum. The club seems to have turned a corner and now moving in the right direction. Good CEO, Good Manager, Good squad, Good youth development.

Pleased to hear all our injuries are not long term. The Kolli situation was explained well. He needs to knuckle down train hard and show a positive attitude to get back in the squad. We have set high standards and for me that is the correct way to operate.

3 points on Saturday and I think we can all be optimistic going into the International Break.

However it is QPR...........QPR 0 v 1 PNE

As for the Kone v Kolli comparison.

Kone “carried the forward line last year” because he was given game after game after game opportunities despite being very poor in many of those games. And not deserving to be kept in the side.

That’s exactly what Kolli’s argument to the club in the review would have been. Why wasn’t Kolli afforded those same opportunities?

You are also comparing after the fact. Saying Kone got goals etc and has delivered at champ level, whereas Kolli has Dev Squad experience. Again, because Kone was afforded multiple full games, game after games, and could rack up 40 odd appearances and 10 goals.

Kolli’s argument would have been that he could have scored more goals. I would agree with him. He could have got 15 goals last season in 40 games, based on his goals to game hit rate. And be worth a lot more than Kone. Much higher ceiling and natural talent.

The unwritten part of the story, is that the club (Nourry) is prioritizing Kone because he cost a lot of money. And it needs to work out. You see the pattern consistently. Madsen (who admittedly later came good, but typically the exception not the norm starting from such a low point), Varane, Saito, all get far too much game time that what they actually deserve. Because they cost money.

That in of itself can cause squad challenges as opportunities are not equal. And if I can see that, I’m pretty sure players who it affects can can. (Ie those vying for the same position.).

Dunne was asked, "What is it about the culture of the club now compared to when you joined which makes you more excited and confident that we can achieve something this season?".

His answer was that how much people want to come and be at the club now. He was complimentary about Alfie Lloyd and Kealey Adamson and their work ethic, in a roundabout way said they aren't that talented, but can't imagine that was his intention.

Really surprised the Kolli question was asked, can only take what Nourry said at face value but of course only getting one side of the story. Interested to know if it was communicated in that meeting that he wasn't going to be first choice/couldn't guarantee minutes this season and therefore they immediately looked at Loan options, or just left it open that he could go if he could be guaranteed more minutes somewhere Kolli and the Club found suitable to continue his development. Begs the question about why it appears he was kept away from the group in pre season barring the first week or so where he was very visible in the clubs content, and not afforded the same chance as everyone else to prove he should be getting more minutes. The 1-2-1 happened at the end of last season so what went wrong after the first week back? Was his fitness testing on return unsatisfactory? Did he pick up an injury and couldn't go on the Tour? Or was he just banished to try and move him on? Still not crystal clear enough to make an educated judgement on the saga for me.

Stephan went off on a bit of a tangent, and as he didn't answer directly solely about Kolli but rather just the general standards he expects, it's going to leave more room for the accusations of poor attitude and conditioning for those that want to believe that, so wasn't very helpful. If the Door is always open and he loves Rayan as he said (as well as all of his players), then let's hope he can start to be reintegrated if he's given a fair crack to meet such standards, and takes it.
[Post edited 16 Sep 21:40]

Sorry I have to totally disagree with your last paragraph. Stephan’s answer was 100% on point and put across in a professional and compassionate way so that a young man was not publicly thrown under the bus. The question was openly asked by a fan about Kolli and Julian’s answer told us everything we need to know. These are the standards which need to be met to play for this club. We will give every player who wishes to hit those standards every help and support to hit them if they are prepared to work as hard as everyone else. End of debate, move on.

More generally, if we start making exceptions because certain players are deemed to have a god given talent then what example does that set to the other players and to younger ones coming behind if that attitude to doing the hard yards is apparent and lacking but they can still walk into the match day squad.

But as a youth product Kolli would be pure profit on the balance sheet should they sell him so they would prioritise him if it's really about money.

I just checked and he featured in every pre season game except for when the Squad was split for the Bromley and AFC Wimbledon games, he played against AFC Wimbledon after he came off against Fiorentina after 7 mins, so he wasn't injured and his pre season wasn't as disrupted as I thought.

To me he has looked slow, heavy, unfit and uninterested every time he's played, but if he was deemed to be in good enough shape to start against Millwall, Bolton and Blackburn, how has he regressed so much that he looked so off the level against Middlesbrough and has since been pulled out of the Squad to get in better shape? That doesn't sound like he's applying himself properly on or off the pitch to me.

I'm not singling Kone out because I have an issue with him, only to highlight a contradiction with the Club that he seems to be getting treated differently to Kolli who wasn't/isn't allowed to build his fitness and be in contention in the same way, and instead being made to train away from the First Team.

It's still all a bit fishy to me and without hearing Kolli's side, which isn't in his best interests for him to make public, the unfiltered truth will remain unknown to us.

Nice read but the last bit confused me , kolli isnt / wasnt allowed to build his fitness , whats stopping him putting in the work ?
Can he only get fit when training with the first team is
something stopping him putting the extra yeards in because hes not with the first team ?

If somebody wants something esp in sport they work damn hard at it , they dont throw there toys out becuase they arent with the top boys , i do wonder if he wont go on loan becuase hes worried he will be found out and its not the hes been here since he was a kid and only wants to play for us line that has been used numerous times , its a chilidish attitude and for somebody wanting a career in football which is very short hes wasting his life wanting something hes in ttoal control of changing nobody elsecan make him do it .

Why would he want to stay if he’s being bullied. It doesn’t make any sense. Surely he’d leap at the chance to move on, even just on loan. I’m not defending people shouting at other people in the workplace. That’s obviously unacceptable. But it’s not evidence of Kolli being bullied if a one off incident.

And Jimmy Dunne is the last person to keep quiet if he thought Kolli was being bullied. He’s been consistently shown to welcome new players in and support people who are struggling.

Like everyone else I’d love him to come good. We obviously need another striker. And I hate to see young players waste their career. But to claim he’s being sidelined purely due to a personality clash just doesn’t stand up for me.

Anyway we’re going round in circles and I’m disappearing this thread now.

More than two things can be true at once, and seem to be with the Kolli story.

He *has* patently been managed very poorly by the club since arriving in the first team as a teenager. Whose fault is that? I cannot guess. But more than one person is tasked with that - so is it purely the club's fault?

He clearly, clearly had something the squad was missing when he scored his first two goals against Norwich in December 24. Nearly two years ago!

He has had nowhere near the chances to succeed or fail in the team that other strikers down the years have had at QPR, from Washington to Celar., despite having more promise and coming through the system.

It could be his attitude. It could be fitness. It might be just a grudge within the club towards him that has hardened. We don't know and it's not helpful to guess.

Whatever the reason, he should've gone on loan if there were genuine loans to go on this summer, just to prove the club wrong. But also, he's got a contract and can do as he pleases or feels is best.

If it were just Nourry and Stephan telling the tale last night, I'd be more sceptical. However, club captain and direct route to the changing room Dunne's body language gave it credibility. There's more they're not saying.

Having said that, it was nice Jimmy praised the attitudes of young players. But Alfie Lloyd's great attitude and vibe will not help him control a pass on the the edge of the box that spins out of play, again, one that Rayan Kolli kills dead and shoots with. So am torn on that.

I'm a bit baffled that we've asked the club to be honest about Kolli and they have been as honest as they can without airing dirty laundry in public. Yet some on here are arguing that we're crazy to believe that story and instead that there's a grand conspiracy against him that involves not only Nourry but also Stephan and Jimmy Dunne.

It's more likely that a young player isn't doing what they need to be doing in training. Hopefully he'll turn it around and we'll see him bang in more goals for QPR.

Also was pleased to hear about Lloyd and Adamson - both have come back playing much better this season. I hope Lloyd can start finding the net, and I'm personally pleased that Adamson appears to have become a very serviceable fullback - very happy to eat some humble pie on that because I wrote him off.

Kone carried the line because we had no other options , half the time he was injured but like smyth who also seems to be in the hit squads firing line every game carried on playing week in week out . amazing the stats always come out when its kolli being spoken of , they said last night as much as they could they made it pretty clear what he needs to do to get into the sqaud or is that making kolli the victim by saying hes lazy ? you obv think kolli is the second coming most of us can see what hes missing and that includes the club . fact is kolli is now 5th choice striker if thats isnt enough to motivate somebody then maybe football isnt the career for him!

I do agree the talk of attitude problems feels harsh on Kolli. It may not be about running in training either it's playing at a high level every day, as you say some flair players won't do that but the message is clear if you perform to a high level in training you will have a better chance of making an impact and getting into the first team.

Kolli just needs to make it really hard for the manager to leave him out, score goals in the dev squad, be the best version of himself in training. If they still don't pick him then thats a different problem.

What I took from it all is that he's getting some terrible advice from those around him if hes complaining he didn't play enough last season.

You may be right that 'the club ... have been as honest as they can without airing dirty laundry in public'. But you may also be wrong. We don't know for certain because Kolli himself has never publicly commented on the club's view.

Without wanting to be too cynical, we must understand that last night was a PR opportunity for the club to put itself in the best possible light before the fans. And that goes for everything that was discussed, not the Kolli issue alone. There's nothing essentially wrong with that. All clubs and businesses do the same or similar things.

Nourry, Stephan and Dunne will have been briefed on the questions and likely issues to be raised from the floor and they will have collaborated on how they should answer them. Again, there's nothing essentially wrong with that.

My point is once again that this is only one side of the long running problem between the club and Kolli, and a side that has been carefully communicated in order to protect the club. We know little about Kolli's side. Until and unless we do, it seems to me facile to arrive at a closed conclusion, however convinced we might feel by what was said last night.

You seem to have lost all sense of rationality when it comes to Kolli.
I know who I believe is better to explain why Kolli isn’t in the first team picture at the moment and it’s the three people who spoke about it at the forum last night and work with him every day, not you.

Why do people keep saying “but Kolli did not get the same opportunities others did”? Clearly JS has explained that: he is not training hard enough. He literally said “why do you think I gave 17 year old Scarlett a chance? He showed in training he deserved it”.

Was impressed with N̈ourry, Stephan and Jimmy.

Christian seems to be much more confident in his role and has been learning from his mistakes too.

I wasn't as apprehensive as some, that the club had made a mistake in recruitment to employ him at such a young age. If you are good enough, then age is just a number. He clearly is in touch with the modern way of doing things and most aspects of the club have been turned around in his time here. Especially with regards the average age of the squad, the squad depth, and yesterday there wasnt either any ducking of awkward questions. He answered all well and succinctly also. Personally, am glad he is here and hope he continues to improve the club in many aspects.

Julien also, after being at the club for some time, is more enshrined in the club and is an assured presence, and speaks intelligently, whilst recognising there is a fair way to go. Again, good to see.

And Jimmy is proving to be an absolute natural leader at the club. Am sure he is great with the younger players and also he is very aware of making sure players are all doing ok mentally also, if they struggling on and off the pitch. Everything you want from the team captain. Hope he remains here for the rest of his career. See no reason why he shouldn't be.

It was very noticeable also, that everyone appears to be singing from the same hymn sheet. And, it's clear, the bunch of players we have currently, are in it together and all want to contribute. Best bunch in terms of character, I would say since the 'Adel' season.

The only issue I felt wasn't adequately addressed was the injury problems, although all recent injuries, it was said, none are seemingly very long term at all. Whether, thats a smokescreen or not, the reality will come out, over the next few months. And the reasoning in games of the first half given to some players or sixty minutes and then preplanned substitutes are made, no matter what the situation of the game or the players performance levels. This is being done to protect against reoccurring issues.

I wait to see on that one, but all round a decent fans forum and came away from it after viewing the feed online, feeling relatively positive.

No fool like an old fool, then.

Whoops !

It's unnecessary for fans to know all the detail or Kolli's side of the story. If there was a legitimate grievance, then there is employment law for him to leverage.

The message that was put forward by the club is that the team is more important than the individual. Full commitment to the team success (even if not playing on the pitch) is non-negotiable. Music to most ears. For Kolli fans, let's hope he can take this onboard.

JS quote of the night: I love my players...I spend more time with them than with my children!

But as a youth product Kolli would be pure profit on the balance sheet should they sell him so they would prioritise him if it's really about money.

You’d think so.

But you also have an asset in Kone that you spent a lot of money on and need to work out and be flipped for profit.

End of the day both can’t play, especially as Burrell is #1. So a decision has to be made. And has been made, certainly last season.

How does that explain the opportunities he did get last season then?

It doesn’t.

Clearly, and evidentially, he DID work hard as otherwise he wouldn’t have been picked at all.

But he certainly did not get the same opportunities as afforded to Kone.

Last 6 games of last season. Kolli played, couldn't last 90 minutes, was very poor and dropped after just 2 and a half matches.

He's had opportunities and has been found wanting.

Poll: How is Nourry cooking so far ? 🤣
