I thought the Kolli answer was pretty fair tbh, I think as a player wanting to develop he needs minutes, I think fair for him task will he get that here or to look elsewhere. They agreed to find him a loan (I noted it was that not a sale). The player felt (or was being advised and suspect that was the case) that they were not suitable so he has stayed. If he wants to get back into the squad he has to be fully committed in training and work as hard as possible. It's been insinuated that perhaps its not been that in the past, and this leaves open questions maybe its attitude or maybe given the injury record he does not trust his body (you can. see that too).

I thought the Kone answer was interesting too, they could have just said he has a knock but they clearly said they've taken him out as he is not fit enough and he is effectively doing another preseason.

I'd need about 300 pre seasons to be half as fit as Kone.

Very much how I see it re Kolli.

The transparency was appreciated re Kone, he had a disrupted pre season but was clearly miles off it compared to everyone else when he did play. I'd like to know if he did come back in poor condition, why he was still given the opportunities to play in friendlies and competitive games that Kolli wasn't, and hasn't been made to build up his match fitness away from the 1st Team/with the Development Squad. Feels like there's some double standards at play there.

Well that answer from JS about Kolli was about as damning as you can get. Never seen JS get visibly angry and the longer his answer went on the more animated he got.

What i loved about his answer was that he has non negotiable things regarding training. Do those then we can talk, and Kolli ain't doing them.

Standards.

Worryingly for Kolli he will be 22 in February, which means next season if he is not named in the 25, he's not playing at all. Better get fit, and quick.

Those ITK tell me that Rayan Kolli will win the Balloon D’Or 2027 without actually kicking a ball in a competitive football match. He’s that good.

I agree it sounds a bit of double standards and strange that an unfit Kone was given a starting place when clearly unfit.

Kolli is not helping himself or his career with his attitude if he thinks he is owed a starting place or not interested in a short term loan deal. 3 months in L1 would get him fit and ready to compete for a starting place.

Ha being says that, I still think a place on the bench should be available, especially if decent forward options are scarce. Work rate and a good attitude don’t necessarily equal goals scored.

That was the best Fans' Forum for many a year (imho) with many bang up-to-date issues raised/discussed which I thought would not be (Kolli, injuries, offensive chanting - even Cargiant got a reference!).

There's obviously a limit to the detail a professional football club can go into openly - and there will always be difficult issues - but I felt that the panel worked really hard to be as transparent as they can be.

Overall, there appeared to be an element of stability tonight - Christian, Julian and Jimmy were all at the club last season and, to me, it showed. Thank you to all of them.

Friend went along to the dev game Sunday , and saw Kolli come on as sub said in word awful so why should,d he get a place on the bench , first forum I’ve enjoyed for while nourry was way less AI than previous ones , Julian’s answer was honest and dunne answer said more than it didn’t say , I’m sure I’ll get the usual his stats are brilliant hes been here since he was a boy etc etc but at the end of the day if he can’t be arsed to graft then his career is looking to be getting shorter than ever before , and that’s a shame for one person Kolli .

Agreed, thought they all came across really well.

Jimmy painted the picture of a really positive team spirit with lots of professionalism. The comment on training sessions and players being at the TSG until 4pm sounded so good. He seems to have really grown into the captaincy.

Julian seems far more assured and he is definitely the gaffer. Great team spirit and has the players respect. He owned the Kolli narrative and it's obviously now up to the player to force his way into the squad.

Nourry very assured and is obviously a very intelligent person. There are young MDs and CEOs out there who are just incredibly bright and rise to senior positions in quick time. I think he is in that camp. He has changed things at the club in a positive modern way and for someone learning on the job, he is very credible. Tough job and he seems more than capable.

They never said he came back in poor condition, he got injured in pre season but was still putting effort in training and reaching standards so they picked him, when he fell below that they dropped him to try and help him get back to his best level.

The Kolli answer was interested because it very much came down to a 'we only want players that want to be here' type answer. That coupled with the gaffer's door is always open feels like, we tried to get Rayan a move, his 'management' didn't want those, he's not really showing us he wants to play here but failed to move on but if he changes his mind and wants to play then the door is open.

I noticed that although Jimmy wasn't part of that conversation that his body language seemed to indicate that it's a place these days for people who want to sweat blood for it. Obviously Stephan is toughening up by the minute as well.

I thought Nourry and Stephan were very honest and straightforward. Jimmy was Jimmy. An open book. We want to be top 6 in the first 5 minutes of the meeting. That kind of set the scene and slightly blew Nourry's more mystic previous self of we want to be improving, allowing us to come 14th type thing. I thought it actually relaxed Nourry and he kind of decided that there's no point in being guarded on most things. It was good to see.

Never knowingly right.

A place on the bench should be earned: I trust Jimmy Dunne when he talks about the efforts put in by the squad in training and the players’ desire to prove they deserve a place in the team so allowing someone who clearly isn’t doing enough to be a sub gives off totally the wrong message.
Seems if Kolli gets his head down, works hard in training, gets selected and plays well for the Development team then he might get back in the first team picture: down to him.

I just checked and he featured in every pre season game except for when the Squad was split for the Bromley and AFC Wimbledon games, he played against AFC Wimbledon after he came off against Fiorentina after 7 mins, so he wasn't injured and his pre season wasn't as disrupted as I thought.

To me he has looked slow, heavy, unfit and uninterested every time he's played, but if he was deemed to be in good enough shape to start against Millwall, Bolton and Blackburn, how has he regressed so much that he looked so off the level against Middlesbrough and has since been pulled out of the Squad to get in better shape? That doesn't sound like he's applying himself properly on or off the pitch to me.

I'm not singling Kone out because I have an issue with him, only to highlight a contradiction with the Club that he seems to be getting treated differently to Kolli who wasn't/isn't allowed to build his fitness and be in contention in the same way, and instead being made to train away from the First Team.

It's still all a bit fishy to me and without hearing Kolli's side, which isn't in his best interests for him to make public, the unfiltered truth will remain unknown to us.

He got injured in the Fiorentina game and hasn't looked the same since I think he got a knock out in Austria as well

Feels like it's about attitude to me and goes back to last season, Stephan wasn't thrilled with Kolli in training last season either

Dunne's face when the QPR cup record was raised. The man is so competitive I'm not sure he liked any suggestion they do not try or that the club could do more (and yes I get that the right team is not always picked giving the impression the club do not take it seriously). This is where we as fans can have some dark humour about it and laugh.. But I'm damn sure Dunne ain't laughing

Kolli had a one to one with various staff about his future. Kolli said he deserved regular football. The club said that could not always be guaranteed here, but could be if he took up a loan this season. Six or seven opportunities were found but he wasnt interested.

So has ended up here still, but several staff are unhappy with his committment in training throughout. Kone was fit and used all last season and at times single handedly led the line himself.

Kolli has been out of favour regularly for similar reasons under other regimes, so can understand why Kone is given more credence currently.

All Kolli needs to do is do as his employers are wishing and get his head down, try his absolute best and he will get the opportunites again. All the panelists alluded to this and tbh that all seems absolutely fair. Hope he does this.

Not sure how the club can deal with this in any other way as to how they are approaching this issue today.

Its really now on someone in Kolli's camp to advise him to do this, but he should recognise this himself now also hopefully.

I thought Nourry & Stephan did well tonight and I was surprised at how far they went in some of their answers.

Stephan on Kolli, clearly setting our the standards he has set and all but saying Kolli is not even trying to reach those standards, but the door isn't closed.

V transparent on Kone, but done with positive intent and making clear they back him, even if he's not firing on all cylinders right now.

And re injuries, good to know there has been a Board level discussion on this with a plan put together, discussed and approved. Fair enough they didn't share what this plan is, but I suspect all of these early season managed minutes are a big part of it.

Kone was playing friendlies while Kolli was not because at that stage the plan was to get Kolli out on loan. That has been decided and agreed upon by both parties end of last season. It was (imho) in the interest of the team and the player(s) committed to staying (Kone) and needing the pre-season (Kone) to play, rather than give someone minutes with the knowledge he is leaving anyway at the cost of a committed player. Which Kolli then decided he didn't want to do after all.

I think the answers re Kolli (direct or indirectly) are pretty clear and I think there can be little doubt about the situation and how it can be rectified. Someone else put it nicely: Kolli probably a distraction from where the club and player's group are heading towards. I'm pretty sure none of this will come as a surprise to Kolli and what was said last night, has already been said to him by at least JS and Jimmy Dunne, probably more than once.

Let us also not forget, that while Kolli has shown good finishing and impact as a sub, whenever he has been given opportunities to start games, he has done little to prove he should be a regular starter and at times has been quite disappointing, frankly. I can't say what exactly his wish to play more entailed, but if it was to be a regular starter, at that point the club did the right thing to say "you're not there yet, lets find a loan first".

There is a fabulous case study about social engineering to be made from the fact that people will actually buy that a kid who goes to every game home and away on his own money doesn’t care enough to train properly.

Its also naive to think that there is necessarily a direct relationship between supporting the team/club and effort in training. Could even be a PR stunt to gain public sympathy if you are really sceptical, although personally I don't think that is the case..

I just don't believe the club will come out publicly at a fan's forum (ceo, manager and captain all) sketching a situation that is not (partly, at least) true. That will ruin our image and lure for future players immensely.

I believe the opposite is true, we are projecting an image where effort, input and team interest are vital and if you buy into that, we will help you realise your personal ambitions.

Best FF since CN took over as CEO.

I've been CN harshest critic with his robotic tripe (which there was still some on show)

But, that's the most relaxed and genuinely engaging I've seen him since he's been here. I actually felt like he was a small part of us and shared some of the same feelings towards various aspects of the running of the club as we do.

I've always like Stephan but even more so now, he's quietly comedic and I love how neutral he is in his demeanour.

Jimmy, well, he's also slowly getting up there with Macca as a proper club legend in my book.

Dunne was asked, "What is it about the culture of the club now compared to when you joined which makes you more excited and confident that we can achieve something this season?".

His answer was that how much people want to come and be at the club now. He was complimentary about Alfie Lloyd and Kealey Adamson and their work ethic, in a roundabout way said they aren't that talented, but can't imagine that was his intention.

Really surprised the Kolli question was asked, can only take what Nourry said at face value but of course only getting one side of the story. Interested to know if it was communicated in that meeting that he wasn't going to be first choice/couldn't guarantee minutes this season and therefore they immediately looked at Loan options, or just left it open that he could go if he could be guaranteed more minutes somewhere Kolli and the Club found suitable to continue his development. Begs the question about why it appears he was kept away from the group in pre season barring the first week or so where he was very visible in the clubs content, and not afforded the same chance as everyone else to prove he should be getting more minutes. The 1-2-1 happened at the end of last season so what went wrong after the first week back? Was his fitness testing on return unsatisfactory? Did he pick up an injury and couldn't go on the Tour? Or was he just banished to try and move him on? Still not crystal clear enough to make an educated judgement on the saga for me.

Stephan went off on a bit of a tangent, and as he didn't answer directly solely about Kolli but rather just the general standards he expects, it's going to leave more room for the accusations of poor attitude and conditioning for those that want to believe that, so wasn't very helpful. If the Door is always open and he loves Rayan as he said (as well as all of his players), then let's hope he can start to be reintegrated if he's given a fair crack to meet such standards, and takes it.
[Post edited 16 Sep 21:40]

It’s not really much of a stretch to see that Stephan was talking about Kolli largely. Because he actually said last season that he knew what he needed to do in training if he wanted to be picked on Saturdays. It just seems like he hasn’t listened and he hasn’t learned.

People are comparing Kone and Kolli but really it’s different scenarios whether Kone came back unfit or injured himself in pre-season. Kone has played for a number of seasons week in week out in non-League and League One men’s football. Kolli has largely played DS football. Kone carried the line pretty much single handed for weeks last season. Kolli came on for some excellent sub appearances and a few more disappointing starts. He showed he’s got some holes in his game that need addressing. So has Kone but if he’s working hard in training to address them and Kolli isn’t then it won’t be viewed in the same way. Kolli’s gaps for me affect the whole team in terms of not pressing /defending well and not passing when that would the better option. Kone’s are less disadvantageous to the team: he works really hard in pressing and defends in our box well in corners and set pieces. He’s also very generous in passing to teammates when in better positions unlike Kolli who’s the opposite which again affects the whole team not just his own performance.

In short Kone’s going to get more of a free pass than Kolli and quite rightly so. They must be tearing their hair out if they’re doing their best to get a good loan for him to get some consistent first team football and he refuses to go out on loan even for a few months. It shows an extreme level of arrogance at his stage of his career. Even Sam Field went out on loan to get time on the pitch and he’s got a lot more of a proven record than Kolli.

Some players can muck about and get away with it because of their supreme talent and past record. Much less so if you’re just out of the DS or have holes in your game. There’s a reason Ravel Morrison, Lee Sharpe, Taylor Richards never reached their potential and it wasn’t lack of talent.

Looking at Alfie Lloyd v Kolli is also a big difference. Alfie doesn’t have the same raw technique undoubtedly. But he’s got a great attitude and works really hard on the pitch whether it’s five minutes for Lincoln or a whole match for QPR. He is humble enough to pass when it’s the better option. If he starts you know he’ll work hard to win the ball back.

Years ago I knew someone who was lucky enough to get in the DS. Nice lad but thought he had made it. Once told one of the first team to F Off. He thought it was funny but really it was always going to be bad news. He left the club and got a few gigs in lower leagues but always got moved on quickly: attitude.

If you’re Ronaldo you can get away with being an arse but even he worked really hard in training. It’s very sad and I think it’s all the people around him that are advising him badly but I don’t think it’ll happen for him at QPR. Todd Kane learnt that no one is bigger than the club and where is he now?

I still think he could pull it round if he started to work hard in training and listen to those with a lot more experience. Stephan is known to work with young talents so it’s a real opportunity for Kolli. I’m afraid though people around him have told him he can demand what he wants and that isn’t going to help him unfortunately.

Nail. Head. Thwack.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

My two pennies' worth on Kolli and last night is simply that we haven't directly heard Kolli's side of this interminable saga and it's likely we never will.

Nourry and Stephan's views are certainly believable, but as the old truism goes, there are two sides to every story.
