Ted Hendrix / RIP 14:46 - Oct 27 with 9949 viewsCharlie1

Hi everyone,

Been a long time since I posted so for those who know / remember me, I hope you are all well.

My brother and I Dad, Ted Hendrix, who was a frequent poster and known to many on here over god knows how many years, passed away yesterday in the early hours. My mum, brother and I were all with him at the end. Candidly, he did suffer for a couple of weeks and it was a difficult period for us all, but the last few days he wasn’t suffering. He was content and comfortable despite the cancer.

Dad loved his club. His hero’s all played in the 60’s and 70’s when he was a kid growing up and causing mischief in west London.

A brief story. Fathers / mothers obviously introduce siblings to their football clubs (or mental torture if you support QPR). Dad took me to Loftus Road in 86 for my first game against Liverpool in the Milk cup semi final. No idea when he inflicted it on my younger brother!

I stopped going a few years back. Fell out of love with the game and found the Redknapp era awful ie players we signed and we lost sight of who we had become. In addition, my wife and I had a family which was my priority.
When we became aware that Dad may not have long left, I took my two girls to Loftus Road for the first time, against Preston last month. In the back of my mind I thought it would be a no brainer. Few away fans, easy win etc. At half time I had two bored kids, tired and thinking what on earth is this, two down and ten men on the pitch. There is something special about Loftus Road when the lights come on, and when there is something more, deeper meaning to it all. Sure enough, the second half was magical. I did tell my girls numerous times that supporting QPR is massive highs and lows (typically lows). They loved it.

The day after, they spent time with Dad for the last time (we didn’t know that at the time but I’m sure you can read between the lines re health deteriorating). Therein a conversation about QPR over the years and generations talking shop. And we gave him a program and A kick up the R’s. Somethings are meant to be.

I’m aware many of you have asked for updates and probably contacted Dad. My brother Paul and I want to thank you all for your thoughts, best wishes and friendship over the years. This message board meant a lot to him, especially the last few years as he had a few health issues.

Thanks again for the well wishes and support. Take care all.

You R’S!

Aww so sad to hear your news Charlie.

Its so tough, when close supportive family members, lives come to an end.

Am sure Ted is now in a much better place now and at peace.

I also hope you yourself Charlie and all the rest of your family can feel some.comfort in a life well lived by Ted and feel his presence still around, keeping his eye on you all, so that you have great lives ahead.

Hope you will all be ok. When both my parents passed within a year of each other, five and six years ago now, life seemed a bit surreal. Glad you have your own family to focus on. As its a tough time for a period when losing people so close.

I never met your dad, but he helped me a lot on here, when occasionally I would get a bit worked up, over some posts on here, which clearly was totally irrelevant in the scheme of things. He always came across on here to me, as a very straightforward man, in my time on here. And sometimes it can be all too easy to overcomplicate things. Definitely one of the good guys. Hope you, your brother and especially your.mum too, all can remember the good times.

Thank you for posting this as know he was very well respected on here and I believe many on here knew your dad also. Wishing you and all the family, Charlie, the very very best during tough times.

RIP Ted.

Charlie hope you and the family are well mate, and deepest condolences.

Ted was the first person I met when I started coming back for 3 or 4 games a season after moving to NYC. I remember being a bit nervy on the trip over to the Bush (I didn't even have a mobile back then) but Ted was on the message board - clear and straightforward, said he'd be in The Green, and that I couldn't miss him because he'd be the only one with a high viz jacket on the back of his seat. True to his word that was the case.

He was someone who could stand there in a heaving pub with a coke in his hand and just be a solid, decent presence. No airs or graces.

Anyway I'm not going to go on, other than to say your dad was one of the good ones and will be sorely missed.

RIP Ted.

So sorry to hear this Charlie. Your Dad was one of a kind on here. The Daddy/Grandaddy of this board if you like. When Ted spoke, you listened!

My thoughts are with you and yours at this time.

As a side note, I've often thought about what happened to you as not seen you on here for years, so I'm pleaseed to hear that you're still around and doing well. And hopefully your recent visit to "The Church" with your daughters has made you fall back in love with the R's again. We're a million miles away from that Redknapp era now...

Take care mate x

I’m another one who never knew Ted personally, only through LFW, but since discovering the forum (belatedly compared to the vast majority of you), I soon learned that his forthright comments and opinions were always worth seeking out.

I particularly enjoyed his contributions to the music threads and would love to know more about how his tastes evolved, although that’s maybe for another day.

Meanwhile it goes without saying that my thoughts, for what they’re worth, are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

I hope it doesn’t sound flippant but I do hope that he was able to experience some joy in his last days following last Saturday’s 5-0 win.

Hello Charlie,

I'm sorry for yours, and your family's loss, watching someone you love go through that is tough. I lost my old man 2 years ago to prostate cancer and as horrible as it is, if there's one crumb of comfort, that being that we get the chance to properly say goodbye and make very most of that precious remaining time together.

I didn't know your dad, but always read, and enjoyed his views on all number of topics over the years.

RIP Ted

My sincere condolences to you and your family Dave.

Like many on here I never met your dad but still felt I knew him through his brilliant, witty, straight to the point, no nonsense, insightful posts. Seemed a genuine and lovely a bloke. His universal popularity and respect on here is unmatched. He'll be greatly missed.

It's a year and half since my (step) dad passed and remembering him now is all filled with joy and gratitude for his presence and a life well lived. I'm sure it will be the same for you.

Rest in Peace Ted

Much love

Undoubtedly my favourite poster on here. He was fair/strong, adamant, and usually right.
Big condolences to you and your family. This place won't be the same without him.
Sad sad news.

So sorry for your loss Charlie, huge condolences to your family.
I've been using this forum for nearly twenty years and over that time you kinda get to know other posters to a degree. We've all exchanged personal things from time to time on here. Its not all about QPR. I always admired how he stopped drinking alcohol to focus looking after his family. That always stuck with me, being a family man myself. I loved his stories of going to away games back in the 70s and 80s with the lads, after work in the back of his transit, causing carnage..lol.
I only knew him from this forum but he seemed like a top bloke and will be missed. I did think about him Saturday after our 5-0 win, and hopefully he got to enjoy QPR one final time. RIP Ted
Sending our love.

You R'S!
