What fabulous young players England have got, the future for the England team is very bright and has got me interested in international football again, a Month or so ago I didn't give a toss.

Never mind the opposition tonight or how good or bad they were they got tonked, cracking performance by the whole England set up, well done.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Grealish, Foden and Saka not had a kick tonight.... 3 players that would walk into most teams in Europe.... and without them we made this look like a cakewalk.......
We really do have a great pool of talent

Perfect timing with almost every International team shoving on and having to face re building while England have an incredible crop of talent battle tested .
Italy have started that process but nowhere close and with the 2 old dinosaurs back there England will eat them alive if they get past Spain.Of course Denmark is in the way but I dont see anybody outscoring England with that backline and Pickford in great form.I doubted him but was way off fair play to him

I think the shock of losing against the Yanks (possibly rightly) prevented the journalists and fans in 1950 from seeing that it was really 'just one of those days' and the stats certainly give credence to that.

With Hungary, however, I think that was a rude awakening which was long overdue. In the Battle of Highbury if Italy had played in the 1st half as they did in the 2nd (ie, not kicking us off the pitch) I think it's safe to say we would have lost. There were also plenty of signs in matches after that and throughout the mid to late 40s where it should have been obvious that the Europeans had caught up with us and by playing different styles but we didn't pick up on it and brains like Jimmy Hogan were not utilised either leaving us with no-one thinking differently: even then we fell into the trap of trying to emulate the teams which had embarrassed us but by the time we had football had moved and we were still behind.

With regards to Southgate, I think we can safely say he's the 2nd best manager we've had and its looking very likely that he'll become the best. To me his greatest achievement has been showing us that we can play thoughtful football and replicate the best sides now, not 5 years later.

I confess I'd never heard of Jimmy Hogan - just googled him, fascinating read - thank you.

The other impressive thing about Southgate is the way he handles the media. It shouldn't matter, but it's destroyed countless England managers and he hasn't let that happen. Look at the whole knee thing - whatever you think of it, it could have been a disaster but instead it's been something that the team has bonded over and where they showed they wouldn't back down. Team spirit and not rolling over when the opposition try to bully you are probably maybe two items for the national coach (natural talent is outside your control ad technique should be given at that level).

i admit i've had my doubts, but blimey we are beginning to look good.

Me too, BlackCrowe. I thought we underperformed with Southgate as the U21 manager and that we wouldn't do well with him as England manager because he just seemed too negative. However he seems to have the ability, like Warbs, to build team spirit and have a plan and stick to it for each match that makes sense to the players. He also adapts to each opponent as stated earlier.

I'm really enjoying this tournament, and if we lose it feels like someone will beat us rather than us beating ourselves as we have in the past.

Totally agree.

It's not as hard to win as it was from 1960 to 1992, or even from 1996 to 2012, but you don't get teams as weak as Togo, Trinidad or North Korea in the Euros...

Or Scotland.Although they did manage a draw in their cup final.

Did anyone else see the dennis the menace shirt in th amongst the fans in the stadium?Nice to see a bit of quality on show.

So far, Scotland has been the only team to have matched England or denied England from scoring, despite being the lowest ranked team England has played.

And they also lost their other two games, which either means that they raised their game against us,or that we didn’t played as well as we could’ve done.Or they knew how to stop us playing well?

Distinctly underwhelmed by our competitors, really poor quality football from those we’ve faced.

We haven’t faced any flair and it looks unlikely we will. Southgate has done well, a mixture of height and flair where it’s needed and 2 Dcm’s seems to be the way to go.

Yeah, probably a bit of all three. An England v Scotland match is always a highly charged derby game that can produce an unexpected result.

We’ll face tougher tests if we want to win the competition but we’re making teams look average by being solid in defence and potent going forward.

Maybe a bit harsh to say we haven’t faced any flair. Germany stuck four past Portugal and have players like Havertz, Gnabry, Muller, Kroos etc. Croatia have Modric and Perisic. Czech Republic have Schick the joint top scorer in the competition.

Yet we haven’t conceded a goal in five games.

Denmark will be a much harder proposition than the Ukraine, but momentum and confidence is high with England and we are improving as we progress. So pleased that Kane is firing now. There are no easy games at this stage of the competition and the Danes will give it a right go. Think it is set up for an England v Italy final, Spain have ridden their luck a bit to get this far, and Italy look very good, but to be honest can't fault Southgate and his coaching team has got selections and tactics spot on so far. Sterling has been superb he wants to win this on his home manor. Luke Shaw having a great tournament as well.

Really strange that all 3 of the other semi finalists won their last competitive fixture v England at Wembley but strongly fancy England to beat Denmark as man for man they have better players. Traditionally players such as Damsgaard who play in the hole cause England real problems think the 2 holding midfielders actually solves much of that. Hopefully Kane will continue his record v Schmeichel as he has 17 goals in 16 games England get 2 cannot see them doing anything other than winning the match

I had a very different experience to many; my wife & I were invited next door by our Polish neighbours and his ex wife to watch the game in Polish. Washed down with half a dozen cans of PerÅ‚a Mocna, a bottle of Å»ubrówka Bison Grass Vodka and a bottle of Russian Standard vodka. I am certain that when Kane scored his ex wife could be heard screaming a street away. It was very noisy, much fun and we will probably be repeating the experience against Denmark. I was very impressed with Shaw and Mount.

The grass is always greener.

Denmark will definitely be a step up in quality from Ukraine, and if England have even a slightly off day there’s every chance we could lose. But it also feels like we’ve got everything in place we’d need to win - a solid defence, confident and creative attackers, options off the bench, a coherent tactical approach to every game as well as players who know how to execute their roles within it, and squad playing their hearts out for each other and their manager.

I also don’t think we should underestimate the quality of teams we’ve beaten either - Germany have exceptional players, Croatia got to a WC final three years ago, and neither Czech Republic nor Ukraine are bad teams, just looked poor in large part because we controlled those games so effectively.

England just need to keep that focus, plan carefully and bring the right attitude to Wembley. Beyond that, who knows. My gut feeling is that even if we get to the final Italy will be too strong for us, but there’s every reason to believe we can win it.

firstly well done, a 4-0 easy win last night, we could sit back and ENJOY if for once, none conceded in 5 games, pickford 7 clean sheets in a row, goals coming and the team looks solid, mobile, relaxed and as if there is another gear at least to go up.
recent games v denmark are close and many are draws. we have won 12 overall, 5 draws and 4 losses , denmark have been motivated greatly by ericcson , sorry if spelt wrong, another close game expected but well done gareth and the team, slowly, bit by bit, game by game the job is getting done, lovely jubbly

We are the strongest team left in it according to the FIFA rankings. We are 4th,Spain 6th,Italy 7th and Denmark are 10th.The Italians have a good defence, similar to ours, and they’re pretty good going forward, again similar to us.
If we get through on Wednesday,I think it will be down to whoever plays better in the final. And if the Italians score first it will make it harder to come back if their QF was anything to go by.
They are good at the dark arts to put off the opposition, but we have to beat Denmark first and worry about the final.

I'd rather play Italy than Spain to be honest.

I think the Spanish have a far better chance of beating us.
