Local Election day in the leafy borough of Hammersmith & F, home of leading football club QPR and two others.
Amazingly here at Chateau Despair we've not had a single thing from the encumbent Labour Party, no canvassers not even a single leaflet.
Are they hoping for a shoo-in because of the Boris effect ?
Anyone had any experiences ?

All three main parties fairly active during canvassing here in TW2.

With everything going on the last few years gawd knows what will happen but we’ll see in the morning.

In SW14, the LibDems are as ever-present as Communist Party area monitors in lockdown Shanghai. Tories stirred themselves into life too surprisingly, though it might have been one person leafleting. Surprised that Labour rustled up as many as three candidates, no sign of life otherwise.

No sign of any complacent Tories here in SW17. Or maybe they are above rubbing shoulders with the proles who vote them in. Shame its a two horse race between them and the inept Labour party here and that the Lib Dems don't get a look in.

A straight fight here in sunny Somerset DT9 between Lib Dems and Tory. Somerset is going to be one of the new super councils where they are ditching the district councils and county council to make one big council. Only had the person who's the current village councillor (Lib Dem) come knocking.

Straight fight between Libs and Cons here i think in KT2 which Libs will win with ease, despite having been utterly woeful for the borough for far too many years.

Poll: Kitchen threads or polls?

I've always wondered the background of LibDem dominance in the Richmond/Kingston area, although lots of vote Green posters in evidence. I see the Hand and Flower has closed.

Hand and Flower is basket case. few years ago bought by a top female Korean golfer as a plaything for her Mum...hopeless, didn't know what it was trying to be. They got shafted by some Turkish mafia types (allegedly) who wanted to turn it into a shisha bar (in Ham!!!) and it seemed like a front, noone went there and then suddenly it's now boarded up. Could be an amazing pub
but god whoever takes it on needs to work on what the locals might want, get a proper working kitchen in there and spend sh!tloads on refurb. tough gig.

Been out door knocking all day from 1000 to 2100 for two great friends and two great candidates, steeped in community building locally, working class and popular last time round.

One of them stuck their head in a 2100 and the ward had a 18% turnout…. Probably both lost to the Greens.

My prediction, mild increase to mild loss for Labour, decent increase for Lib Dems and Greens, shit night for Tories, but a low turnout overall.

Indeed. The area could do with another pub with the Brewery Tap gone. I was there today taking some stuff to the charity shop on the Parade (one of them closed for refurb). I headed up the road and came across a Fuller's pub which I've not been to. I think it used to be a Watney's hell-hole.
Next time I'm there minus car, I'll pop in.

It's the problem isn't it, every side playing the man not the ball (Respect to Corbyn there), obsessed with trivia while people are suffering, a corrupt media and no-one believes in anyone anymore. I know I don't.
I fear a demagogue.
'it couldn't happen here' by Sinclair Lewis is a great book.

Edit - not having a go at you or the candidates you were helping. there are, of course, plenty of decent, honest people standing, on all sides.

It was in Corbyn’s constituency ironically.

People just can’t be fcked and who can blame them.

Sub 20% is a new low though. It was 38% last time round.

My advice to ballot spoilers: don’t just draw a cock, be creative.

If the count is close the candidates get to inspect the spoilt ballots. Think of the hilarity of some Tory or Labour arshole rummaging through piles of well drawn pornography.

The honest decent ones need to make more noise. The current government is run by absolute morons, a complete embarrassment. Decent people in the conservative party need to oust them and bring back some competency. Instead nothing happens and an increasingly corrupt media protects them at all costs.

Looking on from overseas, its actually laughable the level of person and capability in the current cabinet and what an idiot of a PM is allowed to get away with, not just by the country but his own party.

well, we look across to america here, which is costing us hugely imho with the taking up of their poisonous identity politics, and ....................bloody hell. I think the corruption of the media goes both ways, following whichever narrative it chooses to preach.

Baz, I was never a fan of Corbyn, while being aware that he had certain principles and beliefs I shared, but starmer's treatment of him is disgraceful. Thatcher's greatest achievement, and all that.

Barnet, Wandsworth, and Westminster shifting from Con to Lab is pretty significant! Tories all but gone in Richmond and H & F just stayed the same.

Looking like the Greens have had the best night and more power to them! Although the Lib Dems are doing a good job at doing the Tyson Fury/Undertaker 'back from the dead' impression.

Had a tory come round twice in N21 but other than that absolutely nothing. Told her I wouldn't be voting for the 3 main parties ever again so doubt i'll see anyone next time.

Sinn Fein taking NI is probably the most significant of all if it happens.

In the near 30 years in my borough something called the Residents Association have held power in the Council.

Thoroughly decent people who are just about as non political as you can get, promptly respond to your emails, try their best to fight corporate companies and their appalling planning requests. Sadly, it’s always an uphill struggle mostly fighting the power of whichever has been the incumbent government of the time.

It’s a shame that very few other areas have Residents Association candidates, the more there are the better the chance of winning against the government.

I should point out, we get our bins collected, we don’t have our council ‘privatising’ public roads, and they even trust us to drive at 30mph around the town. I’ll be negotiating London roads today, 20mph is all I’ll be trusted with and if take my eye off the road signs for a second I’ll likely end up with a £130 fine, all for a game of golf.

The country needs to think different.

We got absolutely battered with doorsteps and leaflets for this one in N20, and you can see why... Tight as a mouse's waistcoat.

Never lived in a marginal seat before, nice to know your vote actually counts for once.

Very likely they will be largest party but more interested to see how the DUP fare and whether the Alliance make inroads to the unionist vote. The DUP in terms of strategy and aims must be in the running for the least competent political party in the world so interesting to see if that does anything to their vote.

LOL, good old Bob Katter but sadly without his signature hat. He became famous some years back when we ended up with a hung parliament and he plus two other independents got to decide who was in government.

Was in his neck of the woods in January on holiday. In Cairns one day he was being interviewed for some TV thing and seemed to rather enjoy the selfie requests from various locals.
