Palace match thread 13:26 - Jul 23 with 28540 viewsbosh67

I think we may get beaten. I’ll say 2-1 them but would be good if we could hold them.

If we lose…

Beale out
Everyone is rubbish
New signings terrible
Relegation scrap
That Eze lad looks useful

Just some of the things I expect to see if we do lose.

If we win…

Champions League by August or sack everyone

Christ, Palace's fans are annoying. Like toddlers on too much sugar.

I think they're fantastic.
We need more of that attitude at our club instead of the whingey, sarcastic cr@p we put up with at LR.
Not directed at you Brian.

Bare bones.

Penalty Palace. Dickie drags Benteke down on a cross.

Zaha scores. 3-0.

I think they're nice and loud, but the chants are infantile.

Very hard to judge how things will turn out in these pre-season friendlies. Palace looked comfortable and so they should as an established Premier League team. We are still not fast enough transitioning from defence to attack, once Willock is back that may change. Difference is teams like Palace play 2 or 3 passes cutting right through midfield and can find an out option with the quality of Zaha. We still labour across midfield through centre, then left and right allowing opposition to have loads of players behind the ball. Still a work in progress, tough away game to start at Blackburn.

Would have loved to have seen Armstrong replace Dykes 30 minutes earlier. He tested the keeper more than anyone else in his 5 minutes.

I know this was against Premiership opponents but I think Beale has to get a cf in if QPR are to be in the top half. Dykes has poor movement and doesn’t win enough headers.

As for Bonne, he tried but isn’t good enough and still struggles with the offside rule.

I haven’t seen Roberts but don’t think he is a CF, so unless Willock Richards & Roberts can play as a false No.9 we could struggle to get the goals to win games.

Then again maybe Armstrong will be given a chance to stake a place in the team before the window closes.

Don’t think anyone had a good game

Field & Kakay OK. Steff solid but still a shadow of his best. Playing 4 at the back gives you that extra man in midfield. Unfortunately that extra man is Dozzell. Thought he was a largely a MW aberration but seems to have a featured a lot under Beale so far. Must play like Pele in training.

Made the mistake of buying a Ticket in. B block which meant I was far too close too South Londoners for my liking.

Trying out the Broadcaster, won’t bother again. Guinness OK but not poured properly. Hideously expensive seemingly to cover the cost of lots of staff with comms units and iPads standing around doing f all.

Yes even losing friendlies puts me In a bad mood.

Ossie having a decent game so far
Dickie starting to bring the ball out through the middle like days of yore
Field putting a lot of yards and having the odd scrap with Zaha
Ilias not really done much but then again Lyndon not getting much service in and Paal’s crossing not the best so far
Dozzell struggling to find a forward pass and turning back a lot.
Jake seems solid enough so far.
Huffing and puffing and Eze managed to squeeze one in between Denny’s hand and the post.
It’s not a reverse of Weds night though and we have not been too outclassed so far.

Sorry, but it's the same old with our strikers. "They don't get the service". Bowlocks today. Dykes should have been on the end of at least two crosses - one from Shodipo and one from Field. The ball continues to go in the right area, but Dykes is nowhere near it. He always seems to be on the back foot when in the penalty area, never attacking it shoving the defenders out of the way as he gets there.

He is still very disappointing and really needs to step up. On pre-season showing, Bonne has to be ahead of Dykes for a start next week.

Can we go out yet?

Jesus H Christ!!!

You have to be really shite, heavily injured to the point of limb removal or dead to have people saying Bonne should start ahead of you!!!!

Dykes must’ve been atrocious

Just back, that was encouraging I thought.

Kakay and Field were our best two, Kakay's best performance in a long time.
Stef and Albert did well at everything but the final ball. Dozzell made a couple of decent passes which should have been chances but we were not sharp enough in the box. Need to be clinical.
Ref (and Ellerslie lino) provided some good experience of the poor officiating we have ahead of us, thought he was shocking and spoilt the afternoon a bit.

Palace fans are deluded and 3 goals flattered them. Based on that performance their team remains bottom half this year.

Outclassed today

And they barely broke sweat

Impressed and hopeful with Clarke Salter and Paal. Dickie had couple surging runs out of defence and Kakay did well against Zaha and Eze.

Nice see Dunne come on.

Johansen as captain. Not sure about that. With all players fit, he would not be in team for me and likewise Dozzell.

Field bit of a terrier. He will do for me.

Chair had couple moments but too often tried do too much still and Adomah and Dykes both for me barely in the game.

Bonne was not much better.

To be fair, Shodipo, Thomas and Armstrong all looked lively when they came on.

I think though without Willock and a new centre forward to be signed, we are going need to show more.

They are premier league and so much stronger and inventive in possession and choose the right option.

It's only a friendly and doubt many were up for it but the vibe currently is very low key.

Difficult to assess clearly.

Last season I did expect a promotion push.

This season I am not expecting that and today did not change my mind but who knows.

Today was poor but to be expected.

Still got few attacking options to be unleashed.
And definitely need two or three more in the building..

Just back here too. Thought that was... OK to promising. 3-0 very flattering to them, however occasionally lairy the Old Coulsdon Ultras got in the School End.

The difference was they had Eze and Zaha and we had Dykes.

Otherwise, definite green shoots and some nice performances. Kakay was great today, I thought - mostly kept Zaha quiet, and managed to look full of running and confident on the ball too. Maybe it's the threat of losing his place in the team again, but he looked a long way from any kind of weak link.

Midfield felt like the biggest dose of Beale, and without anyone new having been brought in. Given that Jojo can't get up and down anymore, giving him a quarterback role seems like a smart make-do-and mend.

But the flipside is potentially a bit of a masterstroke - seeing what Field can do box to box. Today he was more of an attacking threat than I've ever seen him and it could be a godsend for us. A couple of times he broke into their box only to look totally baffled what he was meant to do next, like a bloke waking up after his stag night in Rotterdam. BUT once he learns he can have an actual pop at goal too, we might just have something special on our hands - a loveably snide 6'3" destroyer who can also do bits up front.

And that would be welcome indeed, because today you just kept thinking, if we had a proper striker, we might actually be dangerous this year. As it is, stick Willock back in that starting 11 and I think this could be... interesting.

I would have thought the one thing LF should be able to do is look at the list of strikers AB’s team has dossiers on, give them the eye ball test and spot a decent one. We’ve taken chances and spent money on some absolute drek since he’s been here. I know strikers are the most expensive to buy but we haven’t always had the limited budget we have now.
