| The Barry Bannan Master Class Match Thread 08:50 - Jan 3 with 27119 views | numptydumpty | I will front up for this one, as feel this is a must win game. Finally, I hope this is one game too far for Mr Bannan against ourselves. But bloomin 'eck, a midday kick off. And for the Sheffield fans to get there. One of these days, we will all have to get to the ground immediately after our full english breakfast. Its hard to get into a game so early in the day and think actually it generally shows similar for all players also. Despite that, I do believe we will win comfortably, three nil, perhaps. But if its a loss, the natives will certainly be getting restless and a happy new year, it won't be. So for me, a three nil win - Burrell with two and Cook with the other !!! Don't want to consider any other possible outcomes !! C'mon you Rrr's.... [Post edited 3 Jan 8:51]

Delighted for Rayan, see on the thread he was getting some stick but I think he did pretty well all things considering literally his first touch put Saito through on goal, not everything came off but he gave us more control upfront. Players were all struggling a bit. Madsen was excellent for 50 minutes and then looked done. Mbengue had a very strange game and wanted to be off after 70 mins. Dembele was hugely frustrating. Kone really struggled to control the ball. Field did well when came on Varane had a really poor half on the ball before the injury. Saito's best game for some time. Injuries were clearly playing on the minds of the players 4 in a day is really not good at all

Mate I was watching with asked if he won his place in a raffle a couple of minutes before his first! I told him to lay off Rayan, he's a good player and he'll show it. My mate had to graciously recant his statement after the goals!

About two minutes before the second goal the ball bounced out to Bannan on the edge of the box…and he scuffed it along the ground to Hamer. Maybe his fire is finally going out. Played all 102 minutes though. [Post edited 4 Jan 17:09]

| The Barry Bannan Master Class Match Thread on 17:15 - Jan 4 with 1937 views | stevec | Felt sorry for Wednesday, poorest side I’ve seen in this league since an abject Ipswich town around a decade ago. Some comical football from both sides during the second half, honestly think the other 22 teams would have beaten us on any other day. Hard to judge Kolli in a game like this, finishes were superb. That was the substance, I just hope the style doesn’t get in the way. You’re not Stan, just knuckle down and focus on being a good footballer. | | | |

Not really feeling for Frey. He’s making a lot of money without doing much and has been blocking others.

Don't feel sorry for Frey and don't agree about 442. That formation has worked well this season more often than not. Sometimes we can get overrun in midfield but it creates opportunities, we have scored more goals this season because of it, and teams don't know how to defend against it. Means the fullbacks become more important which is where we have sometimes struggled, but overall it works for us.

Neither do I but the alternatives aren’t exactly smashing the door down for his spot. He’s an inconsistent one for sure and in poor form but the squad is certainly better for him being fit if not always the XI.

He’s not playing well. But manager clearly rates him. He also comes across as a good lad and is popular with the younger fans and from what I’ve seen makes an effort with the fans. After some of the absolute wasters we’ve had this club for someone to be pleased Varane is injured….beggars belief.

I think someone's a bit disappointed with the win today as it got in the way of a good moany rant, so he's found another target.

Yeah I thought that was one of the stranger 3-0 results I've witnessed. More than half of our play today was hard to watch, with the exception of maybe 15 mins after the first goal, and bits and bobs in the second half. That Dembele effort where he seemed to take it wide of the goal from a central position and shoot weakly summed up a lot of it. All that said seeing Kolli going from frustrated to grinning like a Cheshire cat in the space of 10 minutes was great, and underlines the obvious fact that he needs to play a lot more.

| The Barry Bannan Master Class Match Thread on 15:20 - Jan 4 by DieByYourSide | Might not have come across to those watching on stream but if there's a more bizarre game of football played anywhere in the country, in a more uncanny deathly silent atmosphere this weekend I'd be stunned. We started well and got the goal to settle nerves, then it was a case of the crowd waiting for us to roll in a few more to give us a nerve-free afternoon which didn't happen. Wednesday fans subdued perhaps surprisingly, if understandably - given they're having to get behind the absolute bones of a football team. Constant injuries slowing the game down as we cruised through the middle third of the match with little to no urgency, unable to string more than a few passes together. Honestly felt like a repeat of the film we've seen so many times before was brewing when Wednesday came out after half-time with a bit more purpose and belief grew in their team & fans. Frustration and anxiety was really starting to grow when Kolli smashed in that thunderbolt out of nothing. And the second finish was excellent too. Of course Wednesday offered very little but large swathes of that game were far from convincing. Combination of 12pm kick-off and the non-opposition were maybe always gonna make it hard for players and fans to get up for but still. 3 points the main thing. [Post edited 4 Jan 15:29]

All the Wednesday players came out for the 2nd half ready to play.Ours came out in dribs and drabs. No running around cones or team bonding.Maybe that is why we concede so many goals in the 1st couple of minutes of the 2nd half?

We need a specialist half time coach…that’s clearly a new role to add to the others.

He's quicker than Hayden (and Field) and has a good knack of nipping in and nicking the ball off opposition players. Regarding Bannon, is it any wonder that he looks shot ? He's had to play every minute this season while all else around him has been falling apart. I admire him.

Varane was fine with that side of the game today, it was in possession he was so ponderous and things kept breaking down because he missed the passing opportunity or took two many touches so we kept going backwards. I though Madsen out Bannoned Bannon today certainly for the first 60 minutes, but with Bannon you always expect he is going to pop out of nowhere and score world or open us up with a single pass

I thought Varane had a good 1st Half & not surprised Wednesday dominated the Midfield once he left the field. Varane is quick over 5 Yards & tenacious and not a player you want to play against. Us sleepwalking for much of that 2nd Half shows the limitations of some of our players and this team. I'd go 4-3-3 with Field & Hadyn @ West Ham & either Morgan or Madsen in front of them, otherwise they'll walk through us.

| The Barry Bannan Master Class Match Thread on 22:17 - Jan 4 with 518 views | Jevlar | Varane’s biggest weakness for me is his inability to progress the ball forward. A lack of bravery or playing with fear or just not being able to see the pass is the one trait that keeps him a QPR player. If he sorts that and his occasional moments of mind blanks out he won’t be here for much longer. [Post edited 4 Jan 22:21]
