It was an awful game to watch, but defensively we were good. We restricted Stoke to one real chance.

If you were Stoke you'd be looking at us thinking 3 point banker, and to be fair that is what we have been for them so many times. We kept shape, were competitive and very solid throughout, matched them for physicality, some flashes of skill here and then and lots of character and a clean sheet. Made it difficult for them to play against us and limited their chances well.
Definitely 1 point gained for us which was likely to have been lost with previous teams/managers. Happy with that outcome. Oh, ref was poor as well, which in this case was fine for us! |  |

Thought JD was excellent today. He was my MOTM. Constantly heading and clearing balls, marshalling the defence, a massive presence. For me today was all about perspective; I know plenty of fans, certainly on here, are miserable because they saw what they consider to be a shit performance from our team. But I saw it differently; I saw a bloody good performance, not afraid to be ugly, to dig in and be hard to beat. That takes discipline and determination, especially when you know it isn't entertaining, when you know you're not even playing that good (some of 'em), but you're doing what the gaffer has asked you to do. So well done to the defence especially, including Joe Walsh of course, and Hayden and Madsen, and to all the players, for the clean sheet.
Certainly not entertaining for some, but in a strange way, I actually enjoyed that game. I had that feeling I think many of you know, around 65/70 minutes that we were going to see this out. And so it proved. An ugly performance. I quite liked it. |  |

I know the fashion is to be unanimously positive about everything or believe things have never been worse, but that kind of game shows the nuance of this QPR team.
A point and strong defensive performance is a positive, we probably would have taken both of those things before the game started, but the manner of the performance and - once again - the insistence on playing in a way that doesn't suit the players or exploit the opposition, breeds frustration.
The way we're approaching games, especially away from home, is terrible to watch. No ambition, no real intent to win, no risk and inevitably no reward. We didn't have a shot on target until the 95th minute, and I think that's 4 total SoT in our last 3 league away games.

I'm not unhappy with an away point. And I would have literally cummed oil if Kone had scored that last chance. But I also watched that match for free on a stream.
If I had wasted a Saturday and however much cash it costs to get to and get into Stoke's ground to watch that bullshit, I'd be questioning my commitment to the cause.

Instead, as I've said, we played like we were missing half the squad, against a team who, to repeat the truth against JS's pre-match bullshit, are 15th in the Champ for their home form.

Fitness again. Injuries are one thing but we had nothing in the tank to really have a go when it was there for us. Kone in a great position with one defender to beat and loads of space but tries to shoot from miles out because he’s knackered. Dembele so ridiculously soft.
