I'll give that one a miss. They will embarrass us sadly. Season is over. Need to start working on why we have so many injuries...and lack of 90mins + fitness. Things will never change until that is addressed. At the moment we are simply always one step forward...you know the rest 🙄

All of this is perfectly reasonable on one level and I don’t doubt that everyone involved is doing their best but come on. We could have played like 1970-era Brazil in the first half, it doesn’t matter if you end up getting done 3-2 at home because you’ve given away two goals and a red card in stoppage time. I agree that we ran out of steam, but that in itself isn’t an excuse, and begs the question of *why* fitness levels have been so poor across the squad throughout the season. Every team in the league has to deal with three game weeks, and if we want to compete then we need to do the same. It’s not enough to say “fair enough, we played away on Tuesday” - we should be expecting a team in the top half of the table to do that, and still put in a 90 minute (plus stoppage time) performance on Saturday [Post edited 24 Jan 18:19]

| Would a newby be a booby ? Match thread on 17:11 - Jan 24 by priceyparkrangers | Absolutely awful. Unprofessional. Suggests the players are mentally weak and don’t get coached properly. I’ve never seen a team totally collapse when they go down to ten men. Walsh is garbage I’m afraid - at fault the first two goals especially the second. The guys in front of him panicked. Mbengue is a hot head but the manager knows it and should have acted. Similar to just waiting for Smyth to get a red - the ref had already let us off once. No Edwards again, makes no sense. And this team is still somehow near the play offs |
Today’s loss totally down to our Manager and him not managing. Both Smyth & Mbengue should have been subbed off with 20 mins to go JS doesn’t seem to learn from his mistakes But agree the mentality is weak . We panicked once down to 10 men. Instead of killing the match off and being hard , we rolled over and surrendered .

I'm all for picking out positives but blaming the schedule when we've just witnessed our right-back commit yet another brain fart and the rest of the team subsequently sheet their pants is clutching at straws. All teams have 3 game weeks, the schedule is not to blame for today's capitulation.

| Would a newby be a booby ? Match thread on 17:44 - Jan 24 by CopenhagenRs | The first yellow card for Mbengue was hard to understand. He didn’t hit anyone and he didn’t stop their player, so it’s no surprise he reacted to what looked like a poor decision from the referee. That said, the second yellow was completely unnecessary and ended up costing us. He really has to be smarter in that situation. What is really frustrating is how we lost control of the game that late on. With so many experienced heads out there, that’s exactly when we should have seen better game management. This was the moment for a bit of proper Championship know‑how — slowing things down, running the clock, breaking up the flow and using a bit of shithousery to see it out. Our experience from so many years in the Championship has to show in moments like that against a team just coming from Leauge One. The referee was frustrating to watch throughout. It still baffles me how their right‑back avoided a booking. He was shoving players at pretty much every corner and making foul after foul, yet somehow escaped without a yellow card. Now it’s about pulling ourselves together and focusing on the Coventry game. At least it’s not a midweek fixture, so there’s time to reset properly. Next weekend is a great chance at redemption after todays misery and the 7-1 Coventry disaster. |
I want to wait to watch the whole game back on the Offish before commenting in detail on the performance (which was annoyingly unavailable on both official and unofficial media today to Irish Rs like me - bar the first 5 minutes and Vale's goal), but the bitter irony for me today was that we have a coach and team that was merrily able to shithouse at Stoke for 85+ minutes yet couldn't come up with a crucial spoonful of game management when it mattered for 5 added minutes at home while winning! 3 points - with the kick in the teeth of a red card for our thick right back - from three games this week is, for me, three shades of mediocre to poor - all served up, to quote Basil Fawlty, in three extremely different ways. Like one or two other posters, I don't think I'll ever warm to JS, who seems a very slow learner, and feel he just isn't improving the players individually (Madsen apart from a very low bar) or the team. We've lost as many games as we've won, have a negative goal difference, and never seem to play more than half an hour of football in any game. We lack tactical flexibility, game smarts, and any kind of clear playing identity for me. Where do happier fans feel are the encouraging shoots exactly? Perhaps today will offer some a case for glass half-full thinking, and say this was just a crazy/kamikaze outcome in a very up and down league, but I'm really not sure. [Post edited 24 Jan 18:28]

As others have said every other team in The Championship has to deal with a crazy schedule at some point during the season and that our overall fitness levels have been questionable all season. We discussed this issue at the end of November when we won at Blackburn on a Wednesday night and then got thumped at Norwich on the Saturday. One of the players, Mbengue?, posted that after the Blackburn game the team arrived back at Loftus Road at 3:30am and were straight in to the ice baths. I suggested then that perhaps we should change this routine, stay somewhere local after the game and travel back the next day. Even so this weeks schedule is no excuse in my opinion. I would imagine Wednesday would have been a day off, some players may have felt a little weary on the Thursday. But by Friday these young, fit, professional athletes should have been feeling normal and ready for today's game. Overall fitness played a part today and game management. Why waste a place on the bench if you have no intention of playing Edwards? After taking the lead he should have come on. This should be the last time Mbengue is given extended game time with a yellow card. Love the guy, one of best players but everyone knows the fiery, unpredictable side of him and this has to be MANAGED correctly.
| Would a newby be a booby ? Match thread on 18:32 - Jan 24 with 1106 views | NorthantsHoop | Played some good football in the 1st half and always feel if Rangers go 1 up, especially at home then we have a great chance of winning. Same again when Cook scored in 80th minute, then Stephan should have taken Mbengue off when on his yellow card and put Edwards on for his debut. No closing down for both of their late goals, especially Rathbone's long distant winner. Heads had gone and you could see it the moment that Mbengue got his marching orders. We really miss Burrell up front, afraid Kone is looking unfit to me, and has done for a while, we have no press up front when Burrell is not there. Thought Parkinson's bench options changed the game for them with Windass and Rathbone, whereas ours looked laboured and half hearted. Sort of feel that Stephan will just be a one season manager at QPR and will move on in the summer back to France no doubt. We do have a better squad of players this year but injuries and some strange coaching decisions means we come up short. Basically a mid table Championship team showing some signs of improvement but never going to really seriously trouble the top 6 positions in this league, as we never have any real consistency in winning games and threatening the play offs. Look at Millwall similar size club to us but have been consistently improving year on year and now seriously involved with a good chance of play offs this season. [Post edited 24 Jan 18:35]

Look, that was a disaster today but the season is far from over. No one's getting promoted in January. Also, if we're bobbing around in more or less the same position every season, for every team which "hurtles past" us, there must be another passing us in the opposite direction. What an outcome today . #Buzz kill

Give it up, man. The schedule had nothing to do with today's defeat. If MBengue doesn't get sent off, we see out the win, period. For me, it's a mentality issue. A brain fart from one player resulted in the rest of the team losing composure. As Parkinson said in his post match interview, in the closing stages Wrexham could "smell blood".

After the sending off we still had another sub to be able to bring on why didn't he bring on Edwards to keep the shape at the back we should have had this game in the bag at half time, I hope Cook goes in the changing room and rips Mbenga a new one |
We had only made 4 subs yes, but we had used our 3 substitution windows & so we couldn't bring anyone else on. That is, unless it was a concussion sub. Personally I thought we should have gone to 3 (3-4-1) or 5 (5-3-1) at the back after the sending off rather than keeping a 4
