It was a bit chilly at HQ on Saturday lunchtime so decided to take myself off for a Bovril to warm me up a bit.
Firstly the club have absolutely no idea how to run a concession stand (well the one in the upper loft by the main stairs. 3 staff to serve a huge queue is bad enough but to have to crack open a tin and pour it into a plastic cup. Took ages and lots didn't get served before the 2nd half started.
Secondly.....If shite plastic bottles of Carlsberg wasn't bad enough......its now tins of Carlsberg AT £7 A TIN.
Are the club a bunch or robbing bastards, are the punters fools for buying such over priced tripe or both?
Oh and they had run out of Bovil so I paid £2-3 quid for a coffee that tasted like mud!!!!!!

Both, IMO. Prices of stuff (see thread re: kids England shirts/kits) will keep going up as we keep paying for it. I get some things, like the actual ticket price, we probably don't have much a choice over as it has a big say of whether we go to a game or not but just don't buy food & drink at the club. |  | | |

If I was earning £11 an hour in a city that charges £2,000 a month rent I don't think i'd give shit whether people get their bovril much.
Bring the catering inhouse, pay them properly, and recruit locally would be my suggestion. Outsourcing is the scourge of the football experience.

Given that we're in Shepherds bush and can get all sorts of great pre match food and there are no restrictions on taking food and non alcoholic drink into the ground, just get something before the game to take in. I can guarantee it will be cheaper and taste better. My standard recommendation is a bag of hot falafel from ayamziman grocers on Uxbridge Road. They also do a lovely cheese spring roll thing. No more than a fiver for 6 falafel, a few cheese rolls and a bar of chocolate. They also have some excellent fresh fruit if you'd rather something a bit healthier. |  | | |

If you decide to pay way over the top prices for utter crap - and no one has put a gun to your head - then it's 100% on you. The club however, needs to step in and take back control for our orders.

I read somewhere about a year ago that they were thinking of allowing alcohol consumption “ within sight” of the pitch but nothing heard since.
As said, plenty of good food and drink within the mile or so south of LR. After the pub, I usually have a few snifters from my hip flask on the fabled Batman Close Wall.

an ongoing issue catering at r's. bloody awful and has been since i have been going.
how hard to invest in new machines that pour dozens of pints of beer in seconds? like Wembley, millenium etc have ?? or beer taps tht fast flow from bottom of glass i have seen pubs use them?

Went to see the Damned at Wembley Arena after the game. If memory serves me correctly a pint of lager was £9 and the choice was Coors or Madri ie: pish or pish. Fortunately there was a third pump pouring Aspalls. Two wines (admittedly a decent size slurp) was £23. In this case it was Damned if you do Damned if you don’t. Badum-tish!

when its been brought up at fans forums they wheel the catering guy out for his five mins oif fame , staffing always an issue , solutions how many students do we have on our doorsteps these days ? sheff united do it and they are surrounded by students looking for cash , would be easy to set up and bring more into the club on a match day , club wouldnt be tied to a certain brand of beer food either. |  |

The food on offer has never been great but being in the no man’s land of Breakfast and Lunch , I got some greasy chips from the concourse in lower loft . Not great .

We have said this multiple times. We have Imperial College on our doorstep. So many away teams partner up with local universities to provide work on match days. I’m always amazed by the zillion stewards who come round the pitch at 80 mins. Feels like there are more stewards than fans! What is the reason for so many stewards? Must cost us a fortune. Who in their right mind would want to run on the pitch against Oxford on a Tuesday night in November?? The mind boggles. | | | |

This is correct.
Proper bug bear this is to me - I operate large scale bar operations at Festivals, so I can speak from experience
Elior buy the concession rights for the ground.
The club probably do a deal directly with Carlsberg for the pouring rights - essentially they will get an upfront fee which is generally quite large, and then the brand will inflate the wholesale price to recoup their listing fee. The club will then get a retro payment on the volume of sales.
Elior will then outsource the staffing to a third party operator - these staff are chosen because they are cheap and have no event experience.
This is the standard type of deal that stadiums, arenas and effectively my industry - which is festivals.
The problem with this model is that the brand they have chosen, Carlsberg - is not particularly attractive to the consumer, so therefore sales will diminish because people have the choice of buying a better product, for a cheaper price in all of the local hospitality places around the area. This means that they are not creating dwell time and drinking practices.
I've strongly suggested bringing in local craft brewers with decent choices, at competitive pricing - which would make a pre or post beer more attractive to the consumers -( being us )- but the old system seems to be their go to method.
If I had the opportunity, I'd change the habits down there to a much more attractive proposition that would appeal to the supporters, which would include entertainment, better products and increase dwell time. This also applies to the food offering - its terrible and unattractive.
