As a 30-something just too young to remember Euro 96 that was for about 20 minutes the best I’ve ever seen England. Like that weird period under Magilton where we turned into peak Brazil for about three games.
I think O’Reilly will grow into it but he looked dodgy as anything and they ought to bring Guehi in for Stones but that midfield and attack was about as good as you’re ever likely to see with the ball. | | | |

For me, that first half last night was pretty awful and it was clear that a rocket was put up them at half time because they came out like a different side. I worried we were going to let it slip when we didnt take those multiple chances.
My points from last night:
1) Kane must never take a penalty like he did the first attempt last night
2) Against better sides that back 4 will get mullered. Why did Guehi not start is beyond me
3) Nice that we can bring on Saka, Mainoo, Rogers and Eze on if needed.
But I guess if we win games by one more than the opponent who cares how many they score. Nice to start a WC tournament with a win and minimal stress. This was the must win game in the group |  | | |

I can never remember Kane taking a penalty like that first attempt last night. Normally he just runs up and leathers it into the corners. I always get a bad feeling when seeing a player do that stutter. I never really felt comfortable when Eze used to take our penalties like that. |  |

Great start for England, if we are going to go deep in the tournament then attack is the way to go. I feel us and France have the best attacking options in this World Cup and they looked very good in their 2nd half against Senegal. Great to see Rashford has re-discovered his mojo and Bellingham looks up for it. Just look at those attacking options we have led by King Harry, without doubt the best centre forward around. |  | | |

That has to have been the most enjoyable England match I've seen in years. Fair enough, two goals conceded, not perfect and all that but what I am so happy to see is an England team determined to win it by putting the result beyond doubt, rather than desperately protecting a lead.
The second half performance was a thing of beauty. Fluid, pacy, aggressive. Pressing high up the field and choking the opposition. What a show. Would recommend. |  |

I dunno it's never entirely enjoyable. Having missed all those chances to extend the lead, at 3-2 I was always worried Croatia would find another equaliser. Very grateful for the fourth goal.
