Well that opening game got me nodding off nicely. VAR/the laws of the game the talking points as always. Well done FIFA. Not long before the highlights are just a reel of refereeing/VAR decisions.

I was thinking the same while watching the game. As you say, he's either encouraging it or turning a blind eye as long as they get the results. Either way, he's responsible.

The thing that annoys me the most is they have talent, they are capable. The problem is they have such massive egos they just HAVE to win, especially with all the pumped up hype around Messi, and the desperation to win has led to desperate measures.
Sure, England, France, Germany, Brazil etc all want to win too but all of them can't. You have to accept that you just might not. It's tough to take, for sure, but their utter desperation to win at any costs is quite sickening.

Argentina are bad losers and to most are clearly cheats, they behave like the school bullies whose Dad is the headmaster. 2 sent off in a world cup final meant to be the greatest show on earth ,?? it was an awful game and like 1990 final, was horrible and 2 sent off then too. pattern??? glad FIFA and argies lost . most accept 2022 was bought for messi in Qatar and this one saw a very smooth ride to QF . it is over, they lost. im not a big fan of Sapin, they too have issues but as long as football can find a way to blame England, all is good.

Devil's advocate - but if we had a version of Scaloni who encouraged our team to win at all costs no matter how ugly what would our reaction be? We'd have two European Cups and and a World Cup to show for it if it mirrored his achievements.
this was the issue for me in the semi. we did go toe to toe with them for a lot of the game , few dark arts also thrown in then we crapped the bed and bottled it thats the only diff betwen the two sides . like last night the argies wre there for the taking but the coach bottled it and went full paul hart which cost us the win and the final , then tries to sy it down to players mentality that we lost .

They bottled it last night, didn't even try to compete properly, put on a 2 hour exhibition of anti-football instead. Argentina fans themselves will be disgusted with that.
The use of the word 'animals' was a bit strong then and a bit strong now imho.
I haven't seen any evidence of Argentina fans being disgusted with the behaviour.
If they had pulled off a win they would have put the players on a pedestal. It would be interesting to hear what the Argentine media made/make of it.

I rewatched the 1990 final recently and it wasn't as bad as people make out, Argentina did attempt to go forwards and it was a fairly even game.
Argentina were far more negative last night, it was the most one sided World Cup final I can remember.

Just a quick mention for Spain (and England, to an extent). I thought they dealt with the intimidation from the Argentinians excellently in the biggest match in the world of football. I loved the way they perservered with their footballing game in the face of all the intimidation and then celebrated at the end. The Spanish national team oozes class. Micah Richards was waxing lyrical after the game and I don't blame him. It's a sight to behold, watching them play, the intent on playing football in possession, getting 8 outfield players into positions in which they are building attacks and then the attempts at inventiveness up front. On the BBC 'Have your say' there are one or two comments about it being a boring game. Not for me, even when Spain do happen to pass it across the back or back to the keeper you know that it is going to come back with interest and that they will soon be effecting some switch or another. Glorious team. Watching that I wish I'd be been born Spanish.

I started off desperate for the Dutch to win as I have a few Dutch mates, they should have won a WC in 74 or 78, and Spain bored me. The Dutch were so dirty that it became impossible to want anything other than a Spanish win. Depressing to see a team get to a WC final and decide that the only way to get a result is to kick the fu ck out of the opposition.

Look, we all know what the Argies are like, but let’s not get too high and mighty.
Bellingham slapped one of their morons after we’d lost (fair and square, I might add) but I don’t remember us rumbling on about that.
And let’s not forget the antics of our very own scummy fans at Euro 2020 (21) busting into their own show stadium and taking the seats off proper fans who’d paid to get in. Quite honestly, we shouldn’t be hosting another major football tournament for another 60 years after that and yet we’re getting an opportunity to do the same 7 years on and with home advantage, will probably win it.
I’m a proud Englishman but we’re top dogs when it comes to fouling up football tournaments.
