Poku 14:51 - Dec 22 with 1893 viewssprocket

Very little game time and although not fully match fit is fit enough for bench and the odd 5 or 10 minutes at the end of the game. We have plenty of options but a little frustrating we are not seeing much if him. Looking forward to seeing him more...

Funny to think he was our star summer signing and looks properly good when he's come on. I'd love to see more of him in the second half of the season. I believe he can also play up top as well if needed.

I believe his time will come IF he good enough to oust Dembele (skill) Smyth (workrate) and Vale (vision) We really are very well stocked in this dept. Add in Saito, Chair and Kolli on the left and you have six players vying for two places

Any winger who plays consistently well gets in the team, imo.

If fit, Chair's a good bet to do that.
I wouldn't bet for or against any of the others.

I’d be surprised if the club weren’t offering anything other than a very low contract. Poku, Dembele (especially after the Leicester game) and a fit Vale are better options IMHO.

On Vale, where is he atm? May have missed something but wasn't he passed fit for Leicester?

I think what you can say about Smyth is he contributes some impotant goals (not loads, but important ones), and he seems to really add to the team spirit which is not to be underestimated (see Leivester...). I'd definitely like us to keep him to the ebnd of the season.

That and he has pace which is important now to how we play, counter and press.

Impotant goals?! That reminds me of the old joke about the man who returns home from a Dr’s appointment wearing a new Top hat. His wife asks him why he’s wearing a top hat to which he replies…..

Agree, disappointing not to see more of my favourite player. (For those easily offended, this is a joke based on established LfW protocols)

Genuinely think this guy could be the real deal, I do hope they’re managing his load carefully but I want to see him rip some holes

...but preferably not in his own body.

Treat him like a new signing in the January window arrived early - As I said a few weeks ago, good to see we have learned and not rushing a player back

I find it really odd that neither Poku or JCS have taken more game time in the Dev Squad. We cannot afford to have them every other game for 10 mins or so; we need to build them up to full 90s. If they can't do that, they have to leave as it is not enough to be great players for a quarter of the match...

Can we go out yet?

Poku is just coming back from a serious injury so they’re rightly being very careful with him.
JCS is a walking serious injury who probably can’t play a full season which is a real shame as he’s our best defender.

I imagine we'll see him back on the bench over the next couple of games.
Wouldn't be surprised to see him switched inside to a more CM role.

The benefit of having more depth in the squad. No more having to rush players back and watching them pull up again (Wilock). Poku has looked good when he has come on. Good feet, direct and looks strong. Slowly increase his game time, when the situation is right and slowly introduce him into games

Why, based on what you’ve seen / heard of Poku this season, do you think he’s a better option than Smyth????

I don’t get it.

Smyth is 100%, full of pace, tracks back on is robust (can’t think of too many injuries) and has three goals to his name.
He’s well above Poku and Vale at the moment I feel.

Be lovely to hear he’s signing a new deal

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

He’s only ahead of Poku and Vale at the moment because they’ve been injured. When fit, which they both are more or less now, they’re both much better footballers. I like Smyth for all the reasons you’ve listed but he’s technically rather limited and there’s little to no resale value at the end of any new contract we may offer him. With Dembele playing there as well, despite his limitations (Leicester aside), does it really make sense to have a fourth player in the same position?

I’m surprised that the club are negotiating a new contract with him tbh and, as I’ve said, I like Smyth.

I think they're both better technically than Smyth, Beckenham. I'm not sure even Smyth would contest that.

But being better technically alone doesn't make them better footballers. They've both been injured for huge amounts of this calendar year, they've both got but a handful of appearances for us, and we won't know if they're better footballers than Smyth until they are available for selection on a regular basis and, more importantly, producing on a regular basis better than he is now.

Dismissing Smyth, like Field and Cook, will bite us on the arse when it matters.

See Derry, Hill, and Kenny for precedents.

You may as well add Ilias Chair to that dismissed list too. In fewer games and significantly fewer minutes played than £3m Saito, Smyth has contributed more by way of goals.

Recency is such a wonderful quality.

Totally agree with you.

I get this point of view completely. I’d be sorry to see Smyth go. However, even though Poku and Vale have barely played this season I’d be surprised if, between Poku, Dembele and Vale, we couldn’t cover the right side of midfield for the remainder of the season.

Also you don’t need half a season to spot a more technically gifted, better player.

I think I get how loyalty works now.

- Marti is a cnt because his agent enquired with West Brom
- Smyth can fck off as soon as a 'more technically gifted, better player' is available

I thought when Poku arrived that he was another quite diminutive player in stature but he's 5 foot 10 and a bit of a unit like Mbengue. I think the club has done very well to try and ease him into game time. He's been incredibly unlucky with hamstring injuries. Willock had much the same issues but seemed to come back too soon and play too many minutes.

I am hopeful with Poku. I think he could be something very special. I kind of Andy Impy Mk2 all being well.

Never knowingly right.
