Yes, very very sad. I like my country harder and tougher than Dolly's but she was a great person. I have a song by Skeeter Davis in which she wants to be a country star and she sings “everybody says I look a lot like Dolly Parton. I think it must be my hair”

When I managed to take a kid who I mentor with Down Syndrome and his family to the USA so he could meet his wildlife photography hero, Dolly heard about it and arranged for about a 100 of his followers, many with their own children with Down Syndrome to meet up at Dollywood for the day and she gave us the restaurant and decided to pay for everyone. That's the kind of remarkable person she was.
When the area flooded a number of years ago she stepped in and paid for homes to be rebuilt and paid for accommodation for displaced families.
A real one off and someone who reminds you that some human beings are actually pretty good.
Ah poor Dolly 😔 What a great human being, what a talent and what a legacy. Went out with a girl who absolutely adored Dolly: we saw her at the 02 a decade ago and she was fantastic. Loved her duets with the wonderful Kenny Rogers in particular: they had a beautiful connection.

They may not have been written on the exact same day, but has anyone ever had a better professional week than Dolly when she wrote Jolene and I will always love you back to back?
Like others, prefer my country a little rougher around the edges but an enduring soft spot for Dolly. Always loved thst her husband was a roofer who she claimed had only attended two of her concerts, and stayed out of the spotlight their life together as it wasn't for him.
Sad news, RIP Dolly. A very kind person and genuinely multi-talented; not just a great singer and musician, but also an excellent songwriter and successful actress. Very funny too. A great loss .

Someone that literally dragged herself up by her boot laces and gave so much joy and hope.
Started her imagination library because her father couldn't read, and never wanted a child to go through that.. spent millions on causes, supported her large family and married for nigh on 60 years ...
That apart from writing some of the most wonderful songs and just being a honest, devoted woman.
The words "legends" and "national treasure" are somewhat overused... I would say she was a "Global treasure"
The world will be a sadder, less colourful place without her

Agree she was a very generous woman who never forgot her own humble beginning. I think she also left instructions that her charitable work is continued by her family.
A very talented singer, songwriter and actress too.
Incredible to think that she wrote both of these on the same day
She will be greatly missed by many around the world.

I'm not a lover of glitz, so never really took Dolly very seriously until the last few years. I had been getting more interested in country rock and alt country and loved Johnny Cash's later stuff. Then I heard her original version of I Will Always Love You, which I didn't like by WH, and Coat of Many Colours. I then realised how talented she was. The rock covers album she did a couple of years ago was very good too.
A lovely person too, who didn't take her image too seriously.
