Not April 1 yet but apparently Bristol City have sacked Struber and are appointing Roy Hodgson (78). |

City had announced that they are looking to appoint a new Sporting director. My guess is that Hodgson will get that job. This gives him an opportunity to work with and assess the squad for a few months. He presumably knows Richard Scudamore, who is a City fan and I think now advises the board. EDIT: I'd not realised he was 78! That makes me feel very old - 16 years since the Europa League final! Maybe not a long term appointment as Sporting Director then!
Struber has been very unlucky with injuries (1 fit CB, 1 fit central midfielder) and with dire options up front, so I do feel a bit sorry for him, but he has made some strange decisions re selections/formations even taking injuries into account. City are absolute pony at the moment and look totally bereft of any confidence. Thought he would get to the end of the season.
Tinnion will no longer be overseeing the first team as Technical Director, so that will be well received by most City fans. [Post edited 27 Mar 11:59]

Mel Johnson’s son is Head of Recruitment there. He alluded to the topic in his interview with Clive a year or so ago. Said they balance real life scouting with data analysis, whereas we are going all in on the latter and dispensing with the former. That’s a big difference right there.
I also believe, whilst Robbins and then Lampard don’t have complete, sole control over transfers, they do over the playing side of things. There’s another.
They have also done a brilliant job of uniting their fans behind the club. Managing to buy back their ground was a huge moment having been playing at Northampton Town (Cobblers!) only a few years ago.
Oh, and they take the cups very seriously, almost reaching the FA Cup final the other year. |
If you take the last eleven years as a whole we started with an old school football knows nothing about data setup with Hoos, Sir Les, Ramsey, Furlong etc.
When that didn't work we kicked them to the kerb and then we went to the opposite extreme with modern data geeks who aren't encumbered with silly old fashioned ideas about how football should be played but know their way around a spreadsheet.
What are the odds that in another six or seven years some bright spark will persuade the board that a blended approach with solid football people who buy in to data combined with data geeks who have actually worked in football might have been the answer all along.
I hope I'm wrong and this lot succeed but that's where I can see us going. |  | | |

It's not hard to reduce costs, is it? We had parachute payments for several years and never got near the play-offs. I'm sure his heart was in the right place but let's not pretend that Les was qualified for the job (i.e. he had zero experience in a similar role) or an overwhelming success. |  | | |

Whilst it would be fun to be in a play-off race, there is something enjoyable about being on the beach in April - that being I can watch a QPR game with no stress of other results, and can enjoy watching other teams get stressed instead.
For example, next Monday we see:
Portsmouth vs Oxford
Blackburn vs West Brom
Sheffield Wednesday vs Leicester
The entire bottom six going head to head - and I don't have to worry about any result and can enjoy the carnage that ensues. Lovely. | | | |
