I think Dillon has great potential too. His loan at Enfield Town was extended to the end of January.
When he ends his loan at Enfield he should be loaned out to a National League side to get a better idea of his ability. I think he is at least another season away from being considered as a possible 1st team squad player.

Loaning in a keeper would just be more mud in the water...
Loan out Joe Walsh, keep Nardi until the end of the year with Hamer as backup and Solomon as 3rd choice emergency, then buy a first team level keeper in the summer to compete with Mahoney & Walsh in pre-season.
I don't think Walsh will be any better next season without going out on loan in January.
As for Mahoney, going by what has been shown on the Football League highlights, I don't think he is having a particularly good season at Barnsley. I wouldn't be confident on him being a possible 1st choice keeper next season.
When Dieng was on loan at Doncaster he was keeping clean sheets and getting very good reviews, I don't think Mahoney is performing at the same level.
Handsome Ronnie not even in the Saints squad for their defeat at Oxford today.
Just saying like……
JGS is just an absolute joke now; he’s been in more treatment rooms than an ER Doctor - no idea how long left on his Contract; hopefully not much. Cook was quite ropey today I thought - last year of Contract. Morrison seems to have fallen well out of favour (shame as I really rate him) - needs game time on loan maybe.
Signing Ronnie sort of makes a load of sense for next season but looks a bit luxurious for this. I’d sooner use funds for a goalkeeper and centre mid but would still love it if we signed him and he carried on from where he left off with us

I've come round to thinking Ronnie would be an important signing, on the basis that without JCS we don't have anyone who can play a decisive ball out of defence, which is critical for us to play the type of football epitomised by the Leicester game. And as said above Cook continues to be a concern, so we're not well covered at the back currently

Ditto FDC. Cook's form is tanking - is he losing interest a bit? And, let's face it, JCS could be out for months yet again. Morrison is fine but it does feel like we need strengthening in the CB area. I've have pretty high hopes for Smith and Akindileni but it's too soon for them to be relied upon for the rest of the season.
I feel sure we have some of the Eze funds available but much will depend on the price Soton puts on Ronnie's head.

I watched the Portsmouth game and we really did miss JCS - He makes a huge difference when fit and playing

Two words in your post that seem impenetrable for the boy and QPR: When fit.
Alas, I don't think we can go forward on a basis that we're confident that 'when' will ever change to, 'is'. For me, he's a luxury we can't really afford and for him, I hope he doesn't rue what could and should have been for him, 'when fit'.
'Always In Motion' by John Honney available on amazon.co.uk
Left back: cover for RND given that Esquerdinha’s gone back to the dev squad, and a first-team replacement if he gets recalled to Sheff Utd
Centre forward: Kone and Burrell are doing well but they need more backup than just Frey and Kolli, particularly now we’re playing two up top
Centre back: replacement for JCS who clearly can’t get fit
Not sure we need another keeper: the situation’s been handled poorly but between Nardi / Walsh / Hamer we’ve got enough to see us through the season.
If there are bargains to be had then great, but I’d rather we use loans to patch up the gaps in the squad and give ourselves more room to manoeuvre in the summer. Handsome Ronnie would be lovely but doubt Saints would let him go cheap, and we’re surely going to be in a stronger negotiating position at the end of the season.

Totally agree, and it's why Edwards looked like a God in our team. When the left sided centre back can step forwards, beat the opposition press, and pass us away it transforms that whole side of our team. Chair/Saito whoever is playing wide left instantly looks a better player because they get good, early ball played in front of them.
I love Steve Cook, I think he's been a great signing for us, defensively there haven't been many better at our level, but he's declining now and even in his prime he was never that guy who could advance you 15-20 yards up the field and play a nice pass.
If we can't rely on JCS then Edwards or A N Other handsome bastard with great hair should be sought out for that position. Doesn't have to be January, but it should be a priority for next summer if not.

Not really a fan of Walsh, based on what I've seen this season. It just feels like he's been let down by not getting a chance out on loan over the past two campaigns, so he's undercooked as a first team option. Murphy Cooper, by contrast, has played First Team football for the past 3 seasons at Swindon, Stevenage (where his stats were decent) and now Barnsley (his second League 1 loan).
I want Walsh to succeed but I can't see him as an option at this stage. Get him a loan and we'll know a lot more about him.

My son and I had the same conversation about 10 minutes in. We looked unbalanced and our left side was never a threat going forward. Saito got a lot of grief on here yesterday, but he was rarely played through. Smyth made little difference.
Ronnie Edwards not even in the Southampton matchday squad. Could it be?
I wonder if people are overestimating what Soton will want for HR. Whatever they paid is irrelevant now, if he's not in their plans he's just an ongoing expense that's better offloaded asap. Sticking point is more likely to be wages.
Almost more than his ability as a ball player, we missed the balance JCS gives us a a left footed player. I think one or two of the youth CBs we got are left footed, so be keen to see them go on loan this Jan with the long term in mind.
Whether it's Ronnie or someone else, we can't rely on JCS.

He’s a 22 year old England Under 21 international who will be on relatively low wages compared to a lot of their first team squad so why would they accept anything less than what they paid for him (approx £3m). Wishful thinking that they’ll be glad to offload him for much less.

You’re probably right mate. But I’m also hoping they want to make a few signings and see getting rid of him quickly for say 2m would be useful cash. Especially as imagine he’d want to sign for us.

CBs Akinidileni (18) is left footed, as is Noah McCann (20) who is currently on loan at Tonbridge.
