January transfer rumours on 00:49 - Dec 17 by simmo
So we want to go for a 4th starting keeper of the season? I don't see how that can be a benefit unless the person we bring in is levels above what we have.
Well, yeah, I'm obviously not suggesting we get someone who isn't better than the keepers we currently have. Didn't think that needed to be said.
The entire point is our keepers are not up to scratch and it's harming the team.
We urgently need someone in who can keep goal competently.

Well, if we get someone else in January, Hamer can go immediately, Nardi is believed to be out of contract in June 26, Walsh might feel its in his best interests to get a move, and the lad at Barnsley - who knows? But if we don't want him, I imagine he's a saleable asset
Based on feedback from the clubs he’s been out on loan to Cooper looks the best keeper we have at the moment but I assume there’s no break clause to get him back in January. Nardi’s stock may have risen as he’s been playing again recently so perhaps we’ll get an offer next month for him. If no then get Walsh out on loan but only if he’s going to be a starter so he gets some game time. Hamer has done well enough to be kept on if needed.

Why do you assume Cooper doesn't have a break clause?

Nourry alluded to there being a break clause last week.
As good as reports have been about Murphy Cooper's loans, I remain unsure if he'd make it in the Championship. There must be a reason why he's repeatedly been farmed out on loan.

I don't think that there is a thing called "break clause".
From memory, but by no means certain, all clubs can recall a player in January that is on a "seasons" loan.

Glad to hear he's doing well, but it's not fair to him to drop him into this Goalkeeper political clusterfck where everybody is either pissed off or told to fck off.

Before we start spending more money on keepers, it might be worth spending some on someone who can recruit goalkeepers?

Not necessarily. Dieng had five loan moves before he established himself as first choice.
Just putting this Tylon Smith interview here - https://www.espn.co.uk/espn/st - for those who feel we should sign Ronnie Edwards next month. As I and a number of posters have said, we need to start giving our most promising youngsters some first team playing time. The article hints Smith might get some minutes.

I keep telling you, we've got a perfectly good keeper, it's just he's lost a bit of confidence because of his mistreatment at Rangers. And don't start on with your facts about how poorly he rates in shop stopping and how @qpranalytics has him the worst keeper in the division when dealing with crosses. Sheesh.

You need to have a look at the Barnsley fan forums. Okay first few games but now a few want to send him back in January.

Just had a little browse.
Seemed pretty positive to me, although some of it a few months old.
I saw this lad at Preston away when we had that keeper crisis and he looked like an embryo. I privately thought he'd go the way of Elvis Pjutinins but it seems he's well respected everywhere he's been.
Would love to see him as Number 1 for us (when he's ready).
