You really think we're paying prem level wages for anyone?

Yep agree since he’s moved to RB he’s been good. Occasionally very good. We lacked pace and aggression and ability to carry the ball at full back for a long time. One thing. He gets over excited if he beats a man and tends to over elaborate and get into a jam and get tackled. If someone could teach him to offload sooner, he could really be something.

And also his crossing is hilarious. The more he skies that ball into the School End the more I'm starting to suspect he didn't mean that Leicester goal after all

Yeh - since I started lumping on him to get booked every game FFS!!

Chatting with a West Ham mate at work ahead of "the magic of the FA Cup" and he said QPR are being linked with an U21 player there called Mo Kante - a French lad and box to box midfielder. Sure this was noted over the summer. Know nothing else apart from Mori Kante was a house classic

Lower end when they’ve been paid similar, probably. Maybe there’s a split and we don’t pay 100% but there’s a few on 20k a week plus. Otherwise why would they come ? I don’t think it’s for showcasing their skills for the future if a three week game is too much.

Yeah, he was decent. Particularly for his age (18). We kept him pretty quiet but one of the tricks he pulled out on the halfway line was absurd.

| January transfer rumours on 00:53 - Jan 3 by aston_hoop | I mentioned Castledine in the summer because at that point, Chelsea were willing to let him leave on a permanent deal and he sounded exactly like the kind of player we would try to sign under the current regime. Not sure if we could still nab him permanently now, but why not I guess! |
4 Championship clubs in for him on a permanent deal. Guess we could be one of them then

How do you know this, given that even contract lengths aren't being disclosed? Loan players come because they've been loaned and it suits all parties. Do you reckon we were getting Taylor Richards' full whack when he was out on loan?

I like Mbengue . A decent championship defender . Off his rocker . But a league 2 footballer . Doing a decent job but I think we can potentially find a better right back in the summer . Long term I think he’s suited more to centre back . Full backs are a huge part of how we play at the moment and he isn’t good enough with the ball . That touch against Norwich was like a cross field pass .

There’s plenty of data out there on estimated salaries and it’s fairly logical that if you were playing in the premiership previously those salaries mostly remain in place, even if you drop down a level as RND did. There’s also data on contract lengths too - whether or not you believe it is another matter but the people who publish the data, most likely also sell it to the clubs for analysis. That’s how they make money - data products. Back to RND’s wages, It’s not going to be huge compared with a current prem player but he’s going to be one of the highest paid in our team and that blocks two others on half the salary coming in. You could probably get two Paal(s) for the same wages as an example, hence why we look to other markets. As to who pays RND whilst he’s here, that’s down to another agreement between the clubs. The more they wanted to loan him, the more they contribute and vice versa. We were pretty desperate at the time, so we probably pay a considerable % I would expect that this is why the club was so pissy when Cook extended his contract under whatever option he had negotiated. It takes two parties to make an agreement, so I don’t blame Cook for doing that - after all, he probably wouldn’t have come to QPR if the extension clause hadn’t been in his contract or the salary wasn’t close to what he was earning previously because he won’t get that again elsewhere at his age. Fortunately for us, he’s mostly available, professional and performant - for his age. As for Richards, who knows who paid him but he would have got his salary under the contract terms. I expect we paid most of it give the size of club he went to. Contractually obliged to pay him unless otherwise agreed.

Couldn’t agree less. His deficiencies are much more of an issue at centre back. Fatal even. He can’t be allowed to play there again. He’s also, contrary to what you say, a decent player on the ball and passes and carries well for this level. We have much bigger issues to solve than Mbengue at RB Left back for a start.

“We have much bigger issues to solve than Mbengue at RB” Completely agree. Only following the conversation. But honestly , we are watching a different player if you think he ‘passes well’. As I said I like him. But you have to say what you see ,

Yeah I think his passing skills are decent actually. Ok when he’s having an erratic game or the team isn’t gelling it can go down hill. But fundamentally he’s a proficient passer. For instance, was Dunne a better passer than Mbengue. I’d say not. Can’t think of many RBs we’ve had in recent years who are better passer than Mbengue. So not sure what you’re expecting. As for crossing. Northern is right they can be totally wild but he also has crosses whip and intent in his locker. Opener vs Leicester being a good example

You said he was league 2 footballer. If he’s able to completely dominate a player like Demerai Gray and also provide an attacking threat, that’s a hell of a league 2 footballer. We could do with 11 of that standard. He’s inconsistent because he’s barely played at this level and is also developing as a right back. Of course we could improve every position but I’d say there’s 9 or 10 other positions above him that would be replaced first. Personally I think he’s got huge potential and he’s already at a very good level and we’re awful defensively without him.
| January transfer rumours on 08:46 - Jan 7 with 1294 views | dmm | According to WhoScored, Mbengue's successful passing stat is 79.7% over the season, placing him the 4th best passer in the squad. [Post edited 7 Jan 8:47]

| January transfer rumours on 12:24 - Jan 6 by JamesB1979 | Mbengue has been one of our best players and an excellent signing. He had 2 of the best wingers in the league in his pocket in recent games. A bit mad and can be inconsistent but at 24, he can still improve. Look at someone better? More money spent that we don’t have. |
Like Mbengue, like the fact that even when he does lunge in for tackles, he can spin and catch up with the winger if he does get away. We’ve not had anybody that quick in that position for a long time. Can’t see us being in for anyone much in January, we’ll leave that until the summer. Another keeper is feasible, and a back up only for RND but aside of that, the way we’re set up, I’m not sure it’d be easy in a month to find better replacements. Box to box midfielders are a bit of a myth in the EFL, if they’re any good they’ll be in the Prem on Prem wages.

Agree. Technically, he’s significantly lacking as a footballer. He’s very much a functional and physical footballer. That isn’t going to cut it at right back long term with the way we intend to play. I like him, but not as a long term solution. As for centre back, his size will likely go against him there.

It's QPR. Of course they'll sign players. Has there been a window in memory they haven't? They would've anyway but injuries down the spine of the first team make it inevitable now, surely, especially at CB if Morrison and JCS are out longterm (again). Smith sounds good on paper, but let's see how we really feel if Dunne/Cook are out at any point soon too and we're playing with him and Mbengue in the middle with, I dunno, Morgan at RB. I expect at least one marquee signing - probably a CB - plus a few loans in and out.
