The Barry Bannan Master Class Match Thread 08:50 - Jan 3 with 30863 viewsnumptydumpty

I will front up for this one, as feel this is a must win game. Finally, I hope this is one game too far for Mr Bannan against ourselves.

But bloomin 'eck, a midday kick off.

And for the Sheffield fans to get there. One of these days, we will all have to get to the ground immediately after our full english breakfast. Its hard to get into a game so early in the day and think actually it generally shows similar for all players also.

Despite that, I do believe we will win comfortably, three nil, perhaps. But if its a loss, the natives will certainly be getting restless and a happy new year, it won't be.

So for me, a three nil win - Burrell with two and Cook with the other !!!

Don't want to consider any other possible outcomes !!

C'mon you Rrr's....

The Varane comment is out of order, and I couldn't disagree with it more.

This. What a dozy comment to make.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Thank God we won, that's what matters. Finally a win against them. Shame about Burrell, so he won't be available for West Ham or Stoke and possibly Wrexham if the hamstring gone. Of course Burrell would probably would have been rested against the Hammers anyway but if Kolli breaks down with an injury again then we really we have striker issues if Frey and Kone are up top.

Agree with this opinion. I like that kolli is looking to shoot on sight. In contrast to a lot of our previous frontlines. Yes his touch can be heavy but same with Rumarm of Brum.

After the last 3 games happy with this outcome.. … when we arguable we’re supposed to have 6 points from Norwich and Portsmouth.

Delighted we won, but that wasn't a great performance by us and the opposition was awful. They really didn't create much, but we looked like we were hanging on for a lot of that game. We let them get into the game by trying to grind out a one nil win and our third goal came from a major error by Wednesday.

Credit where credit is due, we did keep a clean sheet and we created two great opportunities through our own efforts, opportunities which we finished well, but there is still a lot to work on.

We can surely be more creative, close down and press better than that. Well, I certainly hope we can. Hopefully, the confidence we derive from this much needed win will inspire the team and give us more energy and drive.

That was the most unconvincing 3-0 I have ever seen, looked like a 1-1 was likely for much of the second half until Kolli stepped up.

Amas at left back for SW was the best player on the pitch and only a teenager.

Shame about Burrell, but Kolli now gets the chance he has been waiting for.

For me, Varane being out for a while is a god send. Offers nothing. Hayden and even Morgan are far better options, bemused by what JS sees in Varane.

Unconvincing, but got the win. Kolli’s finishes really good. Hope he gets a run now (assuming Burrell is out for a while).

Probably couldn’t have asked for a better opponent given our dip in form. They would do well to beat a League 2 team (not that it’s their fault).

Great start to the day, a win in the morning and off to Foxborough for the Pats game this afternoon. If you're watching the NFL, I'll be the bloke wearing the Rangers bobble hat in among 68,000 New England fans - can't miss me.

Relief we got this one out of the way with a win. Kolli took those two goals well. Fair play to the Sheff Wed fans turnout in the position they are in.

Might not have come across to those watching on stream but if there's a more bizarre game of football played anywhere in the country, in a more uncanny deathly silent atmosphere this weekend I'd be stunned.

We started well and got the goal to settle nerves, then it was a case of the crowd waiting for us to roll in a few more to give us a nerve-free afternoon which didn't happen.

Wednesday fans subdued perhaps surprisingly, if understandably - given they're having to get behind the absolute bones of a football team.

Constant injuries slowing the game down as we cruised through the middle third of the match with little to no urgency, unable to string more than a few passes together.

Honestly felt like a repeat of the film we've seen so many times before was brewing when Wednesday came out after half-time with a bit more purpose and belief grew in their team & fans.

Frustration and anxiety was really starting to grow when Kolli smashed in that thunderbolt out of nothing. And the second finish was excellent too.

Of course Wednesday offered very little but large swathes of that game were far from convincing.

Combination of 12pm kick-off and the non-opposition were maybe always gonna make it hard for players and fans to get up for but still.

3 points the main thing.

That was a strange game, felt like nobody wanted to be there. The pitch looked awful, the ball looked like it was struggling to move along the surface.

Wednesday easily the worst team I’ve seen at Loftus Road in a long time. Would have taken some effort to lose to them.

Very pleased for Kolli. Both goals well taken. Lovely move for the first goal as well, nice pass from Madsen.

Agree with this. For most of the game it was so obvious that the second goal would kill it whenever it was scored. Poku seems to be coming on nicely and another strong solid performance from Captain Dunne. Well done Rayan obviously.

Two ways of looking at this - 3pts is 3pts in any game, but if we hadn't beaten Wed then we might as well pack up and go home. I think it demonstrates that big points deductions just do not work in a competitive sport. Wednesday's season is over and it showed throughout

For us, lots to think about and do. The LR pitch is a genuine worry as are the injuries its clearly contributing to. This transfer window might be more important than previously thought.

Julien and Kolli deep in conversation after the final whistle. Then saw Julien deep in conversation with the coaching staff on the pitch too

As for the game. Good in patches. I do like the look of Poku. Taking up food positions and was linking up well. Once fully fit and confident his hamstring won't blow up again, I think we'll see more. The only way we were losing that today is if we shot ourselves in the foot

I thought it was his ankle/lower leg. Won the ball with a good tackle but the Wed player caught him while going down.

I missed the first half, stupid early kickoffs, but BBC, for what it's worth has xG for then at 0.1. I don't do a ton of the advanced stats but my understanding is that means that with the chances they created, they'd be expected to score one goal every ten games. Sounds like that is a strong defensive performance, but it certainly didn't feel like it...
