For me, the issue is not Walsh being 1st choice last season and season.long loan in L1 this, its that it could/should have been done in 2022.
He was keeping the bench warm, playing 2 or 3 Cup games and a meaningless game at the end of the season. |
In 2022/23, he had loans to Hampton, Dorking and Maidenhead. The idea that there was anyone in L1, L2 or National League willing to take on a 20-year-old virgin youth keeper to give minutes to him as their number one is fanciful, magical thinking. Each loan was an audition in itself. The clubs have agency and will sign who they want.
I think we need to stop worrying about happened in 2022. It's 2026 and he is on loan at his level, aged 24. He's got years ahead of him.

I think the idea is for them to compete for who starts - which seems like a healthy situation. It may even be what goalkeeping coaches generally advise.

That's fair Wombat and think I acknowledged that in my post. Am not pointing fingers as we don't know all the facts. Simply saying he is a player I really like with a lot of potential and if for whatever reason - the player's lack of fitness or the club's lack of faith or a mixture of the two - that potential is not being realised. And that is a massive waste.
I would just add that if the plan is to sell him for big bucks then leaving him out of the tour party can't do a lot for his transfer valuation. But also get the club has to maintain disciplinary/ fitness standards etc. Sounds like a mess - and a real shame. |

Am I the only one who's not really impressed with having a loan keeper as number 1 and a fella we've just paid 800,000 sitting on the bench. ? I keep hearing, yeah it's the model and fattening pigs for market etc. We keep finishing near the bottom of the table in the championship and have done for years. How about we start dealing with the season ahead of us rather than this fabled day when we're selling players for millions. |

didnt say anyone is paying anything for lloyd ,
we keep hearing about his scoring ability which is excellent his overall game is pretty poor though , most games he did start he was hooked or the game by passed him thats down to not enough game time in his career , yep the same argument every season he should have gone on loan two season ago but for various reasons didnt. hes now at best fourth choice up front aybe fifth if they continue to play bennie up front , if the clubs stated hes been kept back from the austria trip for work its pretty obvious he did or is the club lying for there own agenda ?
as a finisher one of the best we have as a all round player not even top five thats the cold hard facts , my guess is lloyd and kolli wont be here by the end of the window , the only one we are likely to get some decent ish money for is kolli, id love kolli to start the season on fire and we bank 10 million cant see it ever happening though i sorry to say | |

I don’t think anyone doubts the kid has potential and the goals per 90 stat is a good one but he’s also scored nine league goals total. I know people who know people who know people who know Mavis in the canteen who say he’s a great guy, loves football, desperate to just play etc etc. but at some point after however many managers not really fancying him.
He probably has been badly advised which isn’t his fault up to a point as a young man but it’s not like we’ve got a potential Taarabt/Eze on our hands. He gets on board or he doesn’t. Probably needs a fresh start to have a chance at realising that potential. | | | |

Kolli definitely a strange one. If Nourry thought he might end up being sold for millions, and Julien thought he would score a shed load of goals and / or help the team get up the table he would be in the squad, assuming he is not injured (which he might be).
It does feel like he needs a good season this year with us, or to move on. Very strange how he is in and out of the squad, for no apparent reason. Hopefully whatever the issue is resolved itself in the next few weeks. | |

Don’t mind the club pushing the fee as high as possible but just don’t think someone who is pathologically incapable of passing forwards is himself going to take us forward. At some point we have to start selling players we have spent some of the £25m on under this regime for more than they cost, rather than just players who were here from before them. That’s a player trading model. That is theoretically how we meet PSR and become more and more competitive.
Hoping this is just a negotiation tactic to get the price up.
