Side note, baffled why Dunne to Sheff Utd is still a thing. Wilder tried to sign him on the cheap as a back up when he needed to get his promotion campaign over the line. He couldn't and then didn't. He's not coming back to pay factors more than was offered then. |  |

This issue is probably that Cook wants to play as long as he can, so is going to leave on a free and try and get a one or two year deal playing as high as he can, and good luck to him.
IF, he was retiring from football then absolutely try and get him on the coaching staff.

Definitely put his body on the line when with us especially coming back from the injury against Preston. Without him I doubt we would have stayed up.
We should also though remember why he was signed in the first place; a complete cock up at the club on recruitment and overspend. A costly lesson. |  |

Me too. I always hated the fact that we were robbed of saying a proper goodbye to Ale Faurlin and Clint Hill because they were quietly ushered out of the door at the end of the season and the crowd never had the chance to show how much they appreciated them in the final home game. ( Was meant to be a reply to Hayesender’s post saying he was now sorry he wasn’t going to be able to make it tomorrow). [Post edited 20 Apr 17:19]

A proper defender and a top professional. An organiser and a standard setter in terms of commitment and effort.
In terms of those experienced characters who organise and set standards for commitment, who show some boll*cks and physicality, who roll their sleeves up when we’re in a battle, it’s only really Cook, Dunne and Field.
I’d be very concerned about us going into next season without two of them (as appears will be the case).
Imperative some of our summer signings are of this profile and not just 23yr old development prospects. |  | | |

Well given the fact that myself and probably thousands of others are going to be prevented from getting there tonight to give Steve Cook the send off he richly deserves, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world as far as I’m concerned if the club was forced to reconsider its decision and play him in the final home game next Saturday, when we can all be there. | | | |
