Well given the fact that myself and probably thousands of others are going to be prevented from getting there tonight to give Steve Cook the send off he richly deserves, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world as far as I’m concerned if the club was forced to reconsider its decision and play him in the final home game next Saturday, when we can all be there.
Because of the tube strike I thought about sitting this one out but will make the planes, trains and automobiles journey now to give him a send off.
The man has been immense for this club and guided us into calmer waters when the picture looked bleak.

we've had a young squad in the last couple of seasons so his role as a leader on the pitch and in the dressing room shouldn't be underestimated
I always love how in the behind the scenes videos on social, Cook is always walking past putting the young ones in their place.
The FIFA rating reveal where Cook had one of the highest rating in the squad and all our young ballers are going "how???" and he just walks past going "I played in the Premier League"

Disappointing but unsurprising. He's on a big wage and Nourry clearly wanted him out last season. As others have echoed, we'd probably have gone down without him here and it is a real sliding doors moment that he went to Forest initially.
We were good for him too though - his hair has miraculously grown back!

Does anyone know why the club are committing to this being his “final” appearance when we still have games left to play. With Dunne already out, all we need is for JCS to break again and we could find ourselves short of a centre back.
A round 100 is a good one to go out on.
IF, JCS, again, or Edwards blow up or Dunne doesn't make it back, we'll either move Mbengue to CB or play Tylon Smith. In the former, we could give Adamson a runout.

Me too. In fact, I would like him sold if any reasonable bids come in for him. Wolves were said to be interested in him before he signed a new contract, maybe now they have been relegated they will bid for him. As for Cook, he has been excellent at QPR and I would like to see him back one day as a coach maybe even head coach/manager.
I agree, it is a pity his farewell will be in front of a reduced crowd due to the tube strike. Best of luck to him for the next chapter in his career.

A proper defender and a top professional. An organiser and a standard setter in terms of commitment and effort.
In terms of those experienced characters who organise and set standards for commitment, who show some boll*cks and physicality, who roll their sleeves up when we’re in a battle, it’s only really Cook, Dunne and Field.
I’d be very concerned about us going into next season without two of them (as appears will be the case).
Imperative some of our summer signings are of this profile and not just 23yr old development prospects.
The most telling part of his exit interview with the club was when he laughed at the idea of the club signing him as a 32-year-old now. Something like "Ha! I don't think that will happen again!"
I love all the 22/23-year-old Harvey Vales, Ronnie Edwards, Richard Kones, Mbengues etc but if the club went out and added, for example, a 32-year-old mega-experienced and reliable first choice goalkeeper this summer, I'd know they were serious. Every squad needs a couple of those. We will be diminished without him.
Would love to have a recording of the many conversation Stephan said he has had in his office with him, "not just about football".

I'm assuming that if he passes 100 games it triggers an extension? I'm also assuming he wasn't meant to play any part at Millwall and was going to play in the last two home games to get to 100 but that first half shitshow at The Den kiboshed that.

The LFW glossary in real life! Love it. He really does give the impression that he could become a good manager though. If he takes that job, no doubt he will be our manager around October 2026; I bet he has that in the back of his mind too.

Press release says we’re looking to the future. Whether that means blooding in the youngsters or not, I’m interested to see.

I guess that contract clause where Cook could extend for another year after X apps was put in by the previous CEO/DoF and the press release was CN distancing himself from the signing; a). because it demonstrated the opposite of his new game model b). it might not have worked out if Cook had a recurrent injury

He will keep playing. A club like Pompy will have him or Links, worst case, he will drop into L1 and play for Luton. Plymouth or Reading. Any of those clubs will take him easily.
A top pro, quality player. Great positioning means he does not get caught out by the faster players and, of course, does not get bullied by any big lumps.
Leaves us with: Edwards JCS Morrison And hopefully Dunne.
With Mbengue as back up as both Dunne and Edwards can play RB as well. Thats good enough for a Champ season. You need 4 CB, because as we know injuries, cards and so on.
Now, did I mention we need a LB .... :P

The article says that Cook was interested in coaching so seems more than something made up to keep fans happy

Yeah, I wasn't saying the story was made up. I'm sure there is some truth in it. There probably is a coaching role available, Cook has probably spoken to them about it.
But, its true that the club has been using WLS to feed them stories that they are happy to be published.
So, this story is a win win for all parties
Popular player is leaving the club. Club can say they offered a coaching role. Player can say they looked at a coaching role.
Player can leave for a playing contract somewhere else and all parties are satisfied that they look good to the fans.
It's just a game they are playing!
I'd love to see Steve Cook as a coach in the U21's but if he can get 1 or 2 more years at more than £10k a week then he would be mental to drop to £1-2k a week for a "normal" salary

If he could be a pay as you play deal or much lower weekly playing wage and keep himself fit and engineer in his youth team coaching role on top, but sure thats not going to happen ie he would take up a place in first team squad.
But it seems Bould is a very part time first team defence coach - Saturdays off !!
Ah man, what an emotional video. What a guy. Such a shame he's played his last game at QPR. I hope he finds another club, and continues inspiring his lads.
