| Sweaty socks 22:03 - May 13 with 35715 views | Beckenhamhoop | Of course Celtic score a last minute penalty to take the SPL to a final day showdown between Celtic and Hearts. I hope Hearts stuff Celtic on Saturday not just because it’s someone other than the Old Firm winning the title but because I loathe Celtic. | |

The only decision today I thought was wrong was the Celtic player who put his shoulder into a Hearts players head. Thought it should have been at least a yellow and as the same player picked up a yellow later, he could have been off.

Agree there Clive. Celtic deserved the win this afternoon. Last match was a skank and has left a bitter taste. Thank feck I don’t support Hearts.

Still, some of the decisions this week, I cannot believe the two penalties they didn't get at Motherwell a week ago. Scandalous. Starting to think we should do something else with our time lads. What’s happened? Oh, it turns out QPR are sht and have been docked points for violating a curfew on hooped tops and all the teams you hate the most have been given a gold trophy the size of Jupiter to commend them for their all round excellence. |
Football definitely not worth bothering with too often these days. Corrupt in the extreme. No longer the great game it once was.
| Sweaty socks on 18:47 - May 16 with 2919 views | Harbour | Prem league becoming a bit like the SPL same teams winning the league and cups. Yes Crystal Palace Leicester the exceptions but other than that same teams. At least we occasionally beat the top teams in the championship a much more competitive league. VAR an abomination spoiling those special moments yes occasionally they make the right call similar to the on pitch refs they make wrong calls as well, provides another view via a replay but increases rather than decreases the number of dodgy decisions and totally spoils the experience for the peope in the stadium . | | | |

| Sweaty socks on 15:32 - May 16 by Watford_Ranger | Apparently an orange march meant Celtic couldn’t be at home last week or something. Hearts played 17 home games overall v Celtic’s 16. Bit odd they can’t find a way to even it out. |
Both Hearts and Celtic played 19 at home and 19 away fixtures. The 17 home games for Hearts that you mention was before the split in the league (after 33 matches) Hearts then had 2 home games post split. Celtic had 16 before and 3 after the split. Hearts home record was better than Celtic's.

Very cruel on Hearts but it was lost on Wednesday with that penalty, Celtic were always going to win today

| Sweaty socks on 02:08 - May 17 with 2332 views | Benny_the_Ball | Sorry but Celtic's second goal shouldn't have stood. The linesman flagged correctly and VAR should've stayed out of it. The goal scorer was well offside. Sure, he didn't directly receive the pass but he gained a significant advantage that allowed him to get to the cross a split second before the Hearts goalkeeper. Had he stayed onside, he would've had more ground to cover and the Hearts goalkeeper would've beaten him to the cross. Frankly, VAR won Celtic the Scottish Premiership this week with 2 dreadful decisions, the ridiculous penalty at Motherwell and overturning the offside decision against Hearts. Decisions like these only confirm my belief that in the modern game money talks. | | | |

Don't agree with this at all and even the huge anti Celtic media aren't making much of it. He wasn't affecting play, then got back onside (watch it again, he deliberately checks back therefore no advantage to having been offside earlier) and scored from a cut back. Not offside. I know everyone wanted Hearts to win and I totally get that. If I didn't support Celtic I'd be the same. Hearts were so nearly there. The pen was unlucky but definitely a pen and terribly timed for them. Keeper should have saved it too. Celtic were absolutely dreadful first half and if Hearts went in 1-0 up I think they'd have got the result. If you follow Celtic you know this season has been a mess, the squad is the worst in many years, key players have been injured for extended periods and the job Martin O'Neill has done to turn it around is quite incredible. Even yesterday when they didn't ever look like scoring he made the right changes second half to improve it. One thing Celtic did have despite all the flaws is an elite mentality and that's what ultimately got them to an unlikely title.

Nah You only have to see the decisions over the last few weeks that the SFA didn't want Hearts winning the league . Even at the end the ref bottled it and blew up when technically he should have abandoned the game

I missed the first 10-15 mins so perhaps you know better than me but what was the 3 mins of injury time for in the first half ? I saw 1 very brief bit of treatment for a Hearts player that was 30 seconds or so . Was there any others?

It's a major point about the final whistle. As much as I bitch and moan about it I don't really think all the refs are bent or the big clubs pay them to win or the FAs want this that and the other, but I do believe the big clubs' size and general intimidation means they get the big calls in their favour a disproportionate amount of times. I did think the one tiny consolation of VAR would be that this stopped, but clearly not. The ref yesterday understandably bricked it and claimed he blew the final whistle (so not adding the right amount of time). No problem really with that, but if that had been at Tynecastle the other way round, just naturally it would have been somewhat easier for him to abandon the game as per the letter of the law. Are you going to do that at Celtic Park? I have no particular beef with Celtic and in fact O'Neill has to go down as a brilliant club manager throughout his whole career - from Wycombe onwards. Also delighted to see that he, unlike his fans, behaved with absolute class including in the post-match press conference. A good football man. [Post edited 17 May 9:19]

| Sweaty socks on 09:41 - May 17 with 1966 views | Watford_Ranger | He didn’t blow the whistle did he? He sets a minimum added time and there was still at least 30 seconds to go. I’d have understood totally if the Hearts bench conceded it was better for everyone to just end it given the circumstances and what some of the players had suffered during the pitch invasion but it’s surely just a straightforward lie from the ref if he’s saying he ended the game. | | | |

Yeah you all think the midweek decision was bad. I’m starting to not believe anything I’m watching anymore . I question every decision in every big game now and thats a hard mindset to get out of . Feel like the game is ruined for me [Post edited 17 May 13:53]

And yet you will still hear pundits stating that all they want from referees is consistency. You'll never get it when two officials have completely different views on what constitutes handball!
| Sweaty socks on 23:31 - May 17 with 1426 views | ManinBlack | With around four decades of the title going to a Glasgow club you can't expect the SPL wanting that to change. It is traditional that nobody outside of Glasgow wins the league so VAR is now a useful tool to ensure the status quo. The reality this season is for much of it, the Old Firm have been a shambles with failed managers. Even St Mirren beat Celtic 3-1 in a cup final. What is soul destroying is despite the Glasgow teams being incompetent for much of the season allowing Hearts an 8 point lead, Celtic still won it. No doubt if O'Neil wasn't there they would not have been champions. | | | |
