Take the money. He adds nothing going forward and while his positional play is good, he seems prone to a loss of concentration. And we have Haydn and Sam as defensive mids.

For me he has been a massive disappointment this year compared to last season and what we hoped he might develop into.
Only ever looks for a pass back too.
Would take anything that was offered especially if it helped balance the Ronnie Edward’s transfer.

Might be in the minority but I like him as a player. But every player has a price. 6m and I would sell.

Am truly not sure why this guy gets so much stick.

We got practically all good eggs in our squad now and have not seen any troublesome vibes from Varane. He does seem to want to play well for the team and has some qualities, for sure.

For me he has been decent and no real issues for me. Only problem, i do wish he would think about a forward pass as its very rare he tries this. Am sure such failings can be ironed out and i think it has worked fine with Madsen.

i do believe some fans will always have one boo boy and i think Varane is the one they want to have a go at. He has been fine for me.

£6million, i would hold out for. If its only £5.2million, I personally would play hard ball, and am sure we could get £6 million in the summer.

What I would say though is, with Edwards coming in, I could see him playing this role at some point and others have said with Morgan, Field and Hayden to, its not as if this role is without cover.

Feel all the nastiness though on here against Varane is very odd. Certainly doesnt deserve boo boy status at all

100% sell him

He's been poor his season and we should be able to make a decent amount of profit

He is not having a good season but I think he has all the potential to become a good player. Next season will show if Im right or wrong.
90 % from this forum were writing Madsen off last season and look at him now. One of the best players we have. Give Varane time.
I would not sell him now. Unless there is at least £6 mil put on the table.

We need to sell players though and he's in that sort of position that we won't get mega bucks for him even if we keep hold of him for another season

Madsen has been great this season but he's another we should sell someone comes in for him

You'd bite a hand off for £6m for Varane, who reminds me of Dozzell - he's dozy, doesn't influence games, and looks like he's just woken up. He hasn't improved or developed since he's been here and is also now 24, so that's worrying. I'd take the money we paid for him and move on.

I like Varane and think he's a good player. Rarely heard him get stick at games compared to the abuse on here.

Of course he has things to improve, but that is capable of happening, right?

I can see why clubs would go after him. I can also understand why we would sell. If he goes I don't think he will be amazing, but I bet he has a very decent career.

I think he's a decent player for us with good potential. Seems a bit low on confidence lately and so is too timid with his passing, but also does hard defensive work.

£6m is a good price though. If they want to do this whole 'loan with an obligation to buy' thing at £5.2m, they can whack on an £800k loan fee and round it up nicely. Maybe a 5% sell-on to cover our bases a little?

Surely we wouldn’t just send him out of our team without a loan fee on the off chance they’d buy him at the end of the season? I’d rather have him in our team if he’s not going for anything at all up front.

This.

Maybe an impending departure is funding Ronnie, but JV moving on to the next stage in his career will, I'm sure, see further progress for the boy. Done ok in a hard league, so if he goes for what you've suggested, then winners all round et bonne chance aussi.

Sell Jon Varane? Sell Jon Varane? I just don’t think you understand.

Tbh I’ve never liked that song. I have an old-school mentality where a player has to earn a song. And Varane has not earned a song.

100%. What you hear in stands vs here is completely different. He gets a song in the stands and pelters on here. Kolligate when on and on. Wrong’n turned into not good enough and should be shipped out on loan. Ridiculous on both accounts. He warms up in his first return at Loftus Rd and everybody was on their feet. Comes on to rapturous applause and he’s one of our own. But as ever, like what’s happening with Varane, the brainless sheep on here join the chant. Varane is the only player that oppo fans I speak to say good things about. Yes, you could point the finger at the odd cocky brain fart in dangerous areas, and yes he often looked for the perfect ball when it’s not really on, but Stephan has largely removed that from his game and now he’s blasted for playing too safe. He is the best tackling midfielder we have and strong on the ball. Similar to Hayden, but far more athletic. I’m not gonna talk down any of our players, but bar Hayden (and now Conan the Barbarian if required) he’s streets ahead of any other competition for that spot in our squad. I think they’ll cash in, but I’ll be sad to see him go. If it wasn’t for the Conan signing I’d call it suicidal, given Hayden’s injury record when he plays week in.

I think if we get anywhere between £5-£6 mil, then we have to sell as that's the model the club is following.

It's always amazing how differently we see football. You have one of the most positive views on Varane I've read. My opinion of him is very much at odds with yours.

He is slow in making decisions on the ball which usually results in him having to pass backwards and sometimes getting caught in possession. He's no better than Field in the tackle and can often be clumsy. Overall, his standard of play has dropped quite alarmingly this season and at 24 he should have shown improvement not gone backwards.

Like many on here, I'd take St Etienne's offer in a heartbeat as long as there was an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

5.5 million with add ons a sell on clause I'd take it , just don't see a player of great quality when he plays.

Agree with this.

He has a defensive value to the team but any offer of £5M+ seems more than generous for what he gives to this team. 65 appearances, 1 goal, 2 assists, a million backpasses?

I quite like him, but in fairness there have been audible collective groans at HQ when he turns around for the umpteenth time to lay the ball back when there are options going forward. But yeah, £6m, take it with a sell-on. Mad not to.

This is a bit of a straw man. Around me, Pu, there are quite a few who don’t rate Varane. Against Wednesday there were audible groans around the ground when he did his slow 4 touch 360 turn before laying it off backwards a couple of times. The Varane song also died a death when it was started up. It’s hardly a case he’s loved at the ground and hated on here. Some people, as is evidenced in this thread like him. And he has played some great games. But his form at the minute isn’t good. He doesn’t seem to be improving at all.

Equally, lots of astute posters on here really rate Kolli. Again, don’t think it’s the case at all that he gets bashed on here but loved in the ground. I think he’s pretty popular on here. Most want to see him given a run now Burrell is injured.

£5m is a great price for a central midfielder we paid c. £1m for 18 months ago, who isn’t showing any signs of improving this season. Field is better than Varane defensively, certainly tracks runners far better, and breaks up play better IMO. We also have Hayden who can play there. Selling won’t weaken the side and we need to sell to make this Player Trading/Amortisation model work. It is what it is. We’ll have to sell regularly.

He’s ok, hasn’t kicked on as much as we hoped yet but he’s still young enough to do so.
Would definitely sell if we get a high offer as we have Field and Hayden who are certainly just as good as him at the moment. Certainly wouldn’t sell unless the money is good enough though.
